Im numb. I went to the haemotolgist with a lump in my groin 5cm. He really thought it was lymphoma and was direct that it would be cancer. The biopsy was sent off a week ago. And hes just rang its mestatic. Its like a dream. I feel fine. Thats it for me isnt it? Im only 55 where could it be from?

How shocking and upsetting for you.

Don’t rush to make big decisions, let yourself absorb this colossal shock first. Herbal teas, rescue remedy… anything that may help you settle.

If it’s of any comfort, one of my closest friends has been living well with mets for five years after been advised she had up to 9 months. X

So sorry to hear this. A very un-mumsnety hug. Cancer is vile

Livingonjuice · 11/11/2022 19:04

The waiting between appointments and treatments is the hardest part, at every stage, try (easier said than done) to think about the next step and not any further ahead, until you've had the scan and seen an oncologist for the results there's no way of knowing what you're dealing with and you're just torturing yourself.

Again I know it's easier said than done, but try to stay away from google, stick to NHS or cancer charity websites if you need to look.

Op I remember your post from a week or so ago and had thought of you. How are you bearing up this evening? Have you got support in real life? Lots of good wisdom and posts on this thread about metastatic cancer not being a death sentence.
send you a hug x

I went to Nandos today and food shopped. Im fine when Im busy. My sister and brother are coming down tomorrow we will be very cramped in my little flat! Im not sure if Im supposed to change my diet etc? Should I take vitamins. I spoke to Macmillan but it wasnt very helpful. I just need this scan. I keep thinking how do they know its a secondary is it because its not lymphoma but could it be something else? Google is not helpful.

Hi OP, I’m not a Dr so please don’t take my word for it, but my Dad has just been diagnosed with secondary cancer which was found in his lymph nodes and the reason they know it’s secondary and not lymphoma is because different types of cancer cells look different and they can usually tell whether it’s bowel, ovarian etc from how the cells look. In my dads case it’s not obvious so he’s needing further tests.

As I said I’m no expert in this, but going through a similar journey with my dad, so I can offer a handhold

EachandEveryone · 12/11/2022 21:41

Thank you and good luck with your dad x

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 13:57

It is so hard op, but my BIL lived over 12 years healthy years with secondary cancer. I know of many people that go on to live literally with cancer for decades. So whilst I know you are so scared, and you have every right to be devastated, there is still hope.

Do you have anyone with you lovely in real life?

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 16/11/2022 13:57

I'm thinking of you OP. Good luck.
