Good to see that in a supposedly civilised society the lynch mob is still alive and well.

Don't be so silly. Criticising the MSM promotion of an ex-convict is nothing like a lynching and you should really reconsider the use of that word in such trivial circumstances.

ZaSar · 08/11/2022 09:46

BG was already on the voice on prime time TV in Australia anyway and nobody cared at all.

Penis obviously isn’t off his list is it either

What?

Charley50 · 08/11/2022 09:47

So what if he was on drugs! Most violent abusers are drunk when they abuse; doesn't excuse their behaviour. The poor man he had chained to a wall probably thought he was going to die there.
And so what if he fucking meditates now?! What difference does a few ommms make to his traumatised victim?
Can't bear him. And I don't think he should be given a media platform. Michael Barrymore's career was ruined; why isn't Boy George's? He could easily have killed his victim.

lightisnotwhite · 08/11/2022 09:48

Sparklingbrook · 08/11/2022 08:46

That’s what he does though, and has for years along with meditation. He’s Buddhist.

I still don’t understand how he’s going to align his Buddhist principles to do no harm to living things whilst squashing a load of bugs lying in a box or feeling around an animal in captivity for a star.
He was also a Buddhist long before he tortured the man so he’s clearly quite selective ( ie what benefits him).

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls I think there’s a massive difference between “perfectly pure” and kidnapping a young man, tying him to a radiator, beating him and threatening him. Come on.

Damn right, there is!

He's vile.

Damnautocorrect · 08/11/2022 09:36

You know 25 year old radio Chris was a “shock jock” character don’t you?

genuinely, he’s a nice bloke.

Silly me, getting paid to discuss a 15 year old, offering to take her virginity when she turns 16 and being sexist, racist and homophobic is obviously much more moral and ‘nice’ than doing it for free.

ZaSar · 08/11/2022 09:49

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 08/11/2022 09:39

zasar you baffle me quite unlike anyone else I’ve ever come across on here. You are presenting yourself so badly I’m hoping you are just fumbling your words to be honest. I’d be extremely concerned if you happen to hold a public position working with children, vulnerable people or offenders. Your views are extremely naive at best, dangerous at worst.

I, like many others on here, understand potential mitigating circumstances to heinous crimes. I understand a natural human inquisition to find ‘reasons’, ‘answers’ and some form of explanation or defence for an awful crime. The truth is though, that the outcome of the punishment should not be changed or watered down once those ‘explanations’ have been examined. As a society we seek to learn from any potential reasons as to why a crime has been committed (a man who has been brought up in a cycle of abuse/violence and goes on to commit further crimes for instance). What we find when we’ve looked for these answers should not mean that we forgive or seek to rehabilitate the offender where they have been involved in certain crimes. Roman Polanski raped a child. He also has an awful childhood and something terrible happen to him. It doesn’t absolve him of personal responsibility and it doesn’t mean that just because ‘something was a long time ago’ we should forgive and forget.

Women, children, prostitutes (whether male or female) are some of the most vulnerable in society and we should always seek to protect them. Crimes of child sexual abuse and rape are unforgivable imo. The offender should not be given a second chance and they should not be accepted back into society. The fact that you cannot see that is incredibly concerning.

@Namechangedforthisonetoday

The thing is your wrong because if Polanski were to be caught and punished today - he would almost certainly not be doing jail time due to his age and the time past. So to say that the punishment doesn’t change is false.

Idk people act like I’m condoning what he did I’m not. I’m just saying BG did his time and in the case of Polanski he’s so old and so many terrible things have happened to him it seems a bit off to go after him full throttle now.

WahineToa · 08/11/2022 09:54

he would almost certainly not be doing jail time due to his age and the time past

No, that’s not how it works. Why do you think he hides and doesn’t go back to America? Statue of limitations doesn’t apply, he pled guilty to lesser charges so he could get off 5 more serious charges thinking he would escape prison, but he fled upon learning he would receive jail time, before sentencing. He literally fled from justice.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 08/11/2022 09:54

You are incorrect zasar and thankfully don’t appear to have much inside knowledge of the justice system. I could give you a list of names of very old men that have raped and abused children who have been given prison sentences in the last year - 3 older than Polanski. You are defending Polanski. You are using events that happened to him in the past as a mitigating factor as to why he should get away with raping a child. The law does not work on the process of ‘Mr Jones killed Mr Smith, but because Mr Jones was brutally attacked by Mr Price 35 years ago, he’s already received his punishment and therefore we don’t need to go after him’.

Appleass · 08/11/2022 09:54

I loathe these celebrity shows, Z listers who are worse than gutter rats, and especially Ant and Dec .

It was 20 years ago. The sun was running a countdown on her turning 16.
it’s was disgusting, incredibly disgusting.
but it was normalised then.

WahineToa · 08/11/2022 09:55

Polanski is also currently facing lawsuits in France. He didn’t stop, they don’t. He fled justice in America for the rape and sodomy of a child and continued his depravity in another country. That’s what happens when you try to ‘separate the art from the artist’, more people get hurt.

The other contestants aren't gutter rats, how horrible.

Just don't watch it. I'm really liking some of them especially the women.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 08/11/2022 09:56

If god forbid, someone raped you or your child zasar and they fled justice, would you apply this statement to them? - it seems a bit off to go after him full throttle now.

WahineToa · 08/11/2022 09:57

These are the initial charges against Polanski for those trying to minimise:
Rape by use of drugs
Perversion
Sodomy
Lewd and lascivious act upon a child under 14
Unlawful sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 18
Furnishing a controlled substance to a minor

mummabubs · 08/11/2022 09:57

Just popped up on bbc news, as if to perfectly illustrate my feelings around his need to stand out and be seen as 'special'! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Boy George. What an absolute tool
bringincrazyback · 08/11/2022 09:58

To older people he’s that great Karma Chameleon singer who did something a bit dodgy but it involved another man so that’s ok.

Please don't presume to tell 'older people' what they think.

BellePeppa · 08/11/2022 10:02

Tryfull · 07/11/2022 22:24

Not just a massive drug addiction. Didn't he tie up and torture a male prostitute? I'm not sure of the facts 100% but heard this is what happened.

Yes and the guy is not at all happy that BG is on this show, I don’t blame him. Must be horrible to see your tormentor/torturer on a celebrity show as if nothing had happened.

ilovebrie8 · 08/11/2022 10:06

I like BG, leave it be....he did his time it was a long time ago now. What about Gino D'acampo he has been give a second chance he's on ITV all sorts...

Greenshake · 07/11/2022 22:53

@SkylightSkylight i sense a kindred spirit in you 🙂

Yep - I sat through a lot of dross not to see Mr H eating a kangaroo's arse - I'm not sure I can manage more

NCFT0922 · 08/11/2022 10:07

@ilovebrie8 oh well if you like him that’s fine. Would you of given Jimmy Saville the same second chance? Ian Huntley? Levi Bellfield?

ilovebrie8 · 08/11/2022 10:10

of course not @NCFT0922 that is just plain stupid to say that ...

monsteramunch · 08/11/2022 10:10

@ZaSar

The thing is your wrong because if Polanski were to be caught and punished today - he would almost certainly not be doing jail time due to his age and the time past. So to say that the punishment doesn’t change is false.

You are absolutely wrong, his arrest warrant is still open and the US has continued to request extradition from various countries he's lived in: if he returned, he would be charged which is why he still hasn't returned there... the authorities confirmed this:

Roman Polanski offered to return to the States to face those rape charges, providing he would be guaranteed no further jail time. His request, Deadline reports, has been flatly rejected. “He forfeited his right to make requests of the court when he fled,” said the office of the LADA.

Deputy district attorney, Michele Hanisee, said: “The defendant is, once again, trying to dictate the terms of his return without risk to himself … His proposed order indicating that this court can reinstate the bench warrant after 180 days if he does not appear, is proof that his return is conditioned on getting the answers he wants. Defendant wants answers – but will only show up if he likes the answers.”

It must be so traumatic for the victim.
