What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Dyson hairdryer, not nearly as good as my £80 hair dryer. Can't believe I spent £350 on a hair dryer!

I love my dyson hairdryer! My hair has never looked so good.

Really I always thought dyson was the best kind of hoover 😮 … glad I never bought one now

I adore mine

crumbsneverdid · 03/11/2022 14:33

Cannot beat the 'men's' Gillette Mach 3. The perfect razor IMO.

As for your question; nearly every time I buy a takeaway. But still do it :(

Omg YES, its always late, costs 3 times as much as I wanted to spend, feels like a treat then regret it

I have to agree. I had a Dyson cordless and also one of the larger ones with a cord. Both were rubbish.

Charlotte's magic cream. It's fine but no better than Olay cream I've used for years. Seen no difference in my skin. Lesson learnt.

QuietYou · 03/11/2022 14:41

Chanel CC cream, looked good in the shop, looks dreadful in RL 🙄

PassingWhim · 03/11/2022 14:42

Pasta maker. Gathering dust.

I've got very little body hair but my toes are hairy.

Does this make me weird?

SNAP!
This makes you one of the Perfect Gang 😇

Bogofftosomewherehot · 03/11/2022 14:58

"Maybe one day all these surprised ladies will realise they grow hair on their butts too. It's not only guys' thing."

And we hit meno.... chin hairs, nipple hairs and let's not forget those with belly hair.

Those judging - instead of name calling those with hair maybe show some support? You know it's perfectly acceptable and natural for women to have hair.

Piggieinthemiddle · 03/11/2022 12:48

But you don't mention shaving your feet. So I am imagining smooth legs, smooth toes, broken up by hairy hobbit feet... 😂

You really don't know that women have hair growing on their toes?!
Are you 12?
I have hairy toes and I don't shave them.
I couldn't give two fucks if you think I'm a hobbit.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 03/11/2022 15:01

I have had three Dyson Vacuum cleaners, including a small handheld one and they were absolute rubbish!

I do have a Dyson hairdryer and that is excellent.

roundtable · 03/11/2022 15:03

Oh the faux innocence of not knowing women can grow hair on their toes. Like a bitchy preteen.

They'll be gobsmacked about chin hairs and moustaches that grow on women too.

Speaking of which does anyone have a chin hair that isn't there one minute then pops out and is a good half a cm long from no where. Usually in a meeting or when out for the night I find.

I got my eyebrows tinted a few times as an affordable luxury. I looked awful. Like Hatchet Face in Crybaby.

We got given a huge Jo Malone candle, it was a very sweet gift from a now deceased relative, but it’s awful! The smell is overpowering, it makes me cough!

I was given one as a 'gift' after doing someone a truly massive favour that cost me literally days of my time and which had significantly advanced them in their careers and saved them a fair amount of money. As they handed it over to me they commented with satisfaction that it had been an unwanted Secret Santa gift the year before. I'd never asked for or expected a 'thank you gift' but had been momentarily surprised and honoured that I had been given one.

I am unbelievably tempted to flog it on ebay after seeing that the same ones go for circa £50 second hand.

In what world is a Venus razor a 'luxury item'? Confused

In someone's world who appreciates the little stuff, which is a lovely way to be!

OP I totally get you about the Venus for bikini line. Too wobbly but great for legs.

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/11/2022 15:06

I absolutely love my Apple Watch. I particularly like all the nerdy data it collects on my health and workouts.

ElviraDePonte · 03/11/2022 15:10

So many high end or supposedly cult make up and beauty products over the years that I am now loathe to spend money on them! It’s 99% marketing hype with most of this stuff.

Give me some blue Nivea and a bar of soap 😆

bingotime · 03/11/2022 14:28

People shave the hair in butt cracks?! How?! How do you not cut yourself?!

This is a job for waxing. Please don't try to shave your arsehole.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/11/2022 15:13

I love my dyson cordless. Although I did have e to get a new one as the 'pet' one couldn't cope with my cats long hair.
I splash out on a course of laser treatment for my face. Was told it would be permanent. With Judy the occasional maintenance treatment. It's all grown back!

WH52 · 03/11/2022 15:13

A bouncer seat for my baby which she HATED and screamed each time she was set into it, not luxury as it wasn’t that expensive but definitely a non-essential item which I wished I hadn’t bought 😅
