What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Another vote for Eufy, constantly banging into things, loud, took an age and eventually broke just out of warranty. Its been binned.

We have two - one upstairs and one down. And honestly, the first one just about saved our marriage. At that point we had a long haired cat who loved to shed and we'd just got a husky cross. DH has a mild form of OCD and the fur was absolutely enraging him. These keep daily control of the worst of it and his temper is back under control too. They go off in the day when I'm WFH so I'm here for all the noise, but it's still better than the alternative! 😂

Lentilweaver · 06/11/2022 12:44

Confused by Eufys and the love-hate for them on this thread. I want one but I have a small flat and no pets, so thinking probably not worth it. I do have a dark wood floor though which is murder to clean.

Dyson ball years ago. Hated it. Waste of money.

I use a safety razor. It's 100% metal so no plastic and the blades are 5 quid for hundreds! It's super sharp and does bikini line easily too.

Dreamingcats · 04/11/2022 21:56

Does Aniball count? Sooo painful, difficult to get in, horrible to inflate and agony to expel. And expensive. Also did absolutely nothing to help me with labour. Surprisingly, given the nature of the item, there is a secondhand market so I recouped some costs!

Obviously some women rave about it but I loathed the thing.

I got DP to do the job and it worked really well- I think. No tearing at all just a scratch from DD’s finger nail. Was not nice though but bearable and free.

By Terry mascara, Dior Mascara. Both clumpy and no different to 2.99 Superdrug ones.

acornsarenottheonlyfruit · 06/11/2022 15:05

Brora Cashmere tracksuit pants, went out of shape and bobbly straight away.

acornsarenottheonlyfruit · 06/11/2022 15:07

Abercrombie tracksuit bought for sister as a gift, had to return as the fabric was so thin and awful. Like those disposable airline pillows. Primark was honestly better quality.

I’m worried that this might happen. Totally unbiased, obviously, but DD (13 months) is the best child ever. How can I adore the second one in the same way?

You will. I was joking!!! Kind of. He’s nothing like, but I adore him just as much xx

I do agree. I know the removal of perfectly natural body hair is a nonsense. I often don’t bother because I’m lazy…but I do enjoy being smooth, soft and perfumed too because it feels lovely to me.

Give over with the teeth gnashing FireChild. Fair enough you’ve got your opinion but you’re coming across as overbearing, aggressive and overwrought with it.
Chill out.

You read the comment painfully out of context then if that is how you perceived it.

FireChild · 06/11/2022 16:25

@threatmatrix I was agreeing with you so I don’t know why you had to hit me where it hurts like that. That comment was really unkind. And yes I’ll be honest it raspy did hurt my feelings. You went out of your way to look up my recent thread in mental health. Find out that I’m in a very vulnerable place mental health wise because I’m coming off my meds and wield that information against me like a knife. Perhaps my comment was overzealous I will give you that. But I meant it with all good intentions and it was meant to be a positive comment in sisterhood. And yes I’ll make myself further vulnerable and be fully honest that it actually made me cry. You’re an unkind person. I’m a real person with real human struggles and you too advantage of me while I’m at a low point. Shame on you.

threatmatrix · 06/11/2022 17:58

I’d hate someone to really upset you if an off the cuff comment made you cry 🙄your comment wasn’t very understandable then.

Era · 06/11/2022 17:59

Il makiage foundation. Absolute shite. Colour didn’t match that well and it is like wearing the cheapest foundation you can possibly find. Patchy, obvious, no coverage at all. They asked what I thought and I told them so they sent their after party version with better coverage. It’s like stage paint. Absolutely dreadful and I can’t see how anyone could ever go out like that.

straight back to the Clinique even better foundation for me.

Perhaps you should read the comment again. You kicked me while I was down intentionally. Yes I did cry because I was shocked that you could go something so inhuman. We weren’t talking about my mental health. We were talking about shaving and razors. You made it personal to intentionally cut me to the bone. I’m sure you’re quite proud of yourself.

I have tried so many foundations and by far the best one has to be the Estée Lauder double wear. I only need a tiny amount to wear as a little goes a long way so while expensive, the bottle lasts me forever. It’s the most expensive item in my make up bag but I feel it’s worth it. I save money with other budget brands for the rest of my makeup anyway.

Then you are just as cruel. Pulling up my other thread and teaming up on me like this. My comment was not meant the way you are both interpreting it. And I think you might know that and not care.

To my mind, your comments came across as supercilious and angry. I don’t know why. You’re reading more into it than there is.

Well I just explained that I didn’t feel either of those emotions. At the very least not towards anyone in this thread until @threatmatrix came after me about my mental health and personally attacked me. When I cleared things up you came along and decided to pile on. If you don’t believe me fine. But leave my personal health matters out of it. I’m feeling very vulnerable about it. I can’t believe you women can be so hurtful and heartless. You’ve really taught me a lesson though. Next time I’ll change my username. I should have just deleted the thread but the mods convinced me to keep it up in case someone commented. Well they sure did didn’t they?

Here’s a beginner’s guide @pictish and @threatmatrix - comments like ‘keep taking the meds’ which are designed solely to make fun of someone’s mental health are fucking ignorant and belong somewhere in the humour dustbin of the 1970s along with the ageist, racist, sexist and bigoted japes of that time.

TheZeppo · 06/11/2022 18:45

Balsam hill xmas tree.

It isn’t special 😭

Quite @SirChenjins. It’s been deleted the ableist shit it is.
