What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Mine is the Chanel advent calendar. I wish I had seen this first. 😕 Biggest pile of tat ever.

OMG I would actually be raging if I had bought this… How can Chanel justify the crap they have put into a £800 advent calendar??? 😱😱😱

I had a jacket made for me at Katherine Hooker- made to measure, cost an absolute bomb. It makes me look like a fat Cheryl Cole in the Fight For This Love video and I have never worn it.

Now I want the Chanel advent calendar 😂

@RandomCatGenerator Bless you and many thanks - the conditioner and serum are in my basket. I too have mid-back hair, very fine and flyaway, so am excited to try these.
I also am not entirely convinced by Argan oil - I have to be very careful how much I apply, as one minute it's still feeling rough and the next it's like I've hit an oil slick 🤷‍♀️.

I've just bought an expensive hob, theanufacturer sent a lower model! Did they seriously think I wouldn't notice? It's going back.

Useless purchases include a wax hand pot that the cat burned himself on, and an Asperger’s steamer. If you want a long lasting and powerful vibrator, buy a Hitachi Magic Wand.

@Ericaequites an Asperger’s steamer?!

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 05/11/2022 13:26

I am baffled at the universal love for air fryers. I nearly bought one but MIL got one first so I thought I’d try hers out before making the commitment. Noisy bastard thing and honestly the food rates nothing like deep fried food which is what’s promised. Takes ages it seems too!

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 05/11/2022 13:38

I don't think people buy Henry Hoovers for their vacuuming power but because he's quite charming.

This has cracked me up 😂😂😂

Darn auto correct! It was an asparagus steamer. In this house we do not cook or harass people with ASD.

VioletLemon · 05/11/2022 14:08

Same, I got an HP laptop which was chronically slow. Replaced with a little Huawei device which is super fast, runs massive software and does everything I need fast!

@Bronguin I had to read your post twice, for a moment there I thought you said you had hair growing on your mid back area and that you were buying a product to help style your back hair! 😂

I blame all this talk on this thread of the hair us ladies have growing in unusual places lol

I love my Apple Watch. I use it for loads of things and also do my fitness stuff on it. I bought a lovely slim leather strap for it so it doesn’t feel so bulky.

Any chance you can remember where you got your strap from @MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig ? I’m really put off wearing my watch because of the bulky strap but don’t know where to start with getting a different strap.

Really I always thought dyson was the best kind of hoover 😮 … glad I never bought one now

They’ve gone downhill. The early ones were the first of their kind and did a really good job sucking up the dirt and dust, though they always were a pain to empty. Subsequent ones were unreliable and killed my back every time I used them. I eventually got a Miele Cat & Dog (very good, but you do have to pick the right model).

Amazon's good for that sort of thing. I got a cheap ass metal strap with a magnet fastening for my Fitbit for about £4, as I had the common reaction to the standard one they come with. It's a lot more convenient as well as better for my skin.

Orangello · 05/11/2022 16:43

I really love my Dyson and gets heavy use every single day (several massive hairy dogs and cats). V8 had rubbish battery life and annoying emptying mechanism, so I now have it upstairs as a spare and V11 for main hoovering - it works brilliantly!

DatasCat · 05/11/2022 16:46

Mine is chanel and Fenty foundation. Both made different friends skins look perfect but on me just seemed to sit on my face and never actually blend.

@MatronicO6 you probably have drier skin than they do. Best argument for trial sizes ever. You’re likely to need a much creamier formulation.

An expensive Swiss watch by Tag Heuer. About 12 years ago I had just had a windfall so treated myself - it looked very smart. BUT it needs a new battery every couple of years and this costs a 3 figure sum each time to be resealed. The wonder broke about 6 years ago so it had to go back to Switzerland and cost a high 3 figure sum. The last time I needed a battery change, about 2 years ago, the shop claimed it wasn’t keeping perfect time and needed another full service : again over £300 plus. This time I’d had enough and took it to Timson who charged £50. It is still going perfectly….

One wonders if these super expensive brands keep P T Barnum’s motto framed in their back offices. Glad you saw the light eventually!

FaithHowells · 05/11/2022 16:56

Not a massive splurge but "Sheepers" slippers, fell apart within weeks and they refused to refund or exchange.

DatasCat · 05/11/2022 17:13

Mine was my previous set of living room curtains. Made to measure from John Lewis 22 years ago, to fit an awkward sized bay window, fabric picked to go with our sofa and carpet (or so I thought), £600 all in including the track. When they were up, not only did they not match as well as I’d hoped (hideous thick stripes), but they hung about an inch and a half short of the window sill and weren’t completely even. I hated them from the minute they were up to the minute I gleefully took them down 21 years later.

The trouble was, there were so many snags with the house pre-kids, and too much else going on with kids (not to mention better things to spend money on; the curtains were expensive thanks to the awkward size and shape of the windows) that we didn’t replace them until recently. Got the new ones made online from Curtains2Go, not that cheap, but not as expensive and a million times better, I have never been so relieved.

My second child.
He’s nothing like the first one I got and costs us a fortune.

I’m worried that this might happen. Totally unbiased, obviously, but DD (13 months) is the best child ever. How can I adore the second one in the same way?
