What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Just a shout out for the dyson cordless here. I love it.
Gucci ‘classic’ loafers on the other hand. Had a vision that I couldn’t shift. Now, they just cripple me and age me me by about 50 years every time I put them on.

Pliudev · 04/11/2022 19:45

Some jumbo cord, wide leg trousers from TOAST. Far out of my price range and I look like I've been mucking out a pig sty in them. Sort of like my long dead great uncle would have looked after doing just that in the old days. Bought some jumbo cords from La Redoute at a fraction of the price and they look great. Keep an eye on Vinted if you're into the agricultural look.

I bought a Ninja dual zone air fryer, I would have been better off with a new halogen oven.

I've been checking every website obsessively to buy one of these lately so v disappointed to see this!!

Bugeyedowl
Well I've just splashed out on an electric blanket and it's only slightly warm. Is that normal? Never had one before.
is there a dial to turn it up?

Another that unfortunately cannot warm to the Apple Watch. Dh bought it for me for a present and it cost so much I can’t not use it so I use it for a few weeks and then put it away, then repeat! It doesn’t sit right on me, it’s clunky, I get irritated by the interface, it pings in conjunction with my phone which has had me called out by my manager, battery life- I think it’s just not me. My dh gave me his iPhone and I hate that too so it may be an apple thing!!

I don’t mind the Henry but am gutted that there’s no definite winner between the fusion and the shark as hetty is showing signs of going.

Benefit they’re real mascara- gave me spiky lashes, same with Lancôme grandiose, all maybelline mascaras flake- Roche posay is the only one so far that does the job!

@Bugeyedowl

the electric blanket should have different heat settings so you can turn it up… I have a silent night heated throw and love it it has 3 different heat settings and gets nice and hot…

There’s about ten hairs on each big toe so honestly it’s nothing and I love how they feel after!( sounds like I obsessively feel my toes or something but I promise I don’t 😅)

WetLettuce2 · 04/11/2022 20:04

So much rubbish

Top of the list was the mark 3 Focus RS when it came out. Insisted on having a sunroof. Didn’t know that meant it couldn’t go round a track. And even if I did a track day it would void my warranty pahh.

Also, a Canada Goose coat - really stiff, too hot, and I walk like a penguin in it.

Dyson hairdryer- no different to a £30 one.

Curved TV - weird and overpriced. Upstairs with that.

Dominican Republic holidays- everything damp including the plastic mattresses 🤢

StressedToTheMaxxx · 04/11/2022 20:07

Obagi skincare. No difference to my skin whatsoever.

Hunter wellies - within 18 months and with only VERY occasional wear, the material (rubber?) perished near the ankle on one of them, rendering them useless

They were bought from a ‘proper’ seller too, not some dodgy EBay site 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really disappointing 😡

Hunter wellies are useless - paid about £15 for a pair (they were real but bright yellow - for some reason that colour didn't sell well 😂). No insulation so your feet freeze also.

DH bought me a pair of Rockfish ones as I moaned so much - amazing!!

Bosch athletic cordless vacuum. Was £250 and dumped dirt all over the place, got tangled with hair that I had to cut off the brushes with a scissors. So glad I held into Henry. He’s heavy but he’s never let me down.

Roxy69 · 04/11/2022 20:12

Henry vacuum, really rubbish and the face is so creepy I have painted over it. Big mistake.

2nd the Dyson Cordless, absolute crap and wasn't really impressed with the Oodie i brought, no where near as thick and fluffy as i had hoped.

I love my Oodie, actually too thick and I get hot. Waiting on colder weather until I try again.

TragicMuse · 04/11/2022 20:15

Ohhhh a Mulberry Daria iPhone case and strap. My GP influenced me for some reason! I got totally carried away.

It was £200, I hardly used it and now all iPhone models are too big to fit it!

It's lovely and useless.

Benjispruce4 · 04/11/2022 20:16

Why would anyone spend £600 on a fan??? It blows air, what more did you expect?

Irismarle · 04/11/2022 20:17

An expensive Swiss watch by Tag Heuer. About 12 years ago I had just had a windfall so treated myself - it looked very smart. BUT it needs a new battery every couple of years and this costs a 3 figure sum each time to be resealed. The wonder broke about 6 years ago so it had to go back to Switzerland and cost a high 3 figure sum. The last time I needed a battery change, about 2 years ago, the shop claimed it wasn’t keeping perfect time and needed another full service : again over £300 plus. This time I’d had enough and took it to Timson who charged £50. It is still going perfectly….

Irismarle · 04/11/2022 20:19

winder, not wonder

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 04/11/2022 20:21

God I LOVE my Apple Watch, agree with the person about the ping option, but I guess it depends if you are going to actually make use of all the features….

Also love my Shark hoover…. literally the best hoover ever (had a Dyson before and this blows it out the water). Also love my small vax portable pet cleaner….

So no idea why these have taken a lot of hatred on the thread!

Anyway, my disappointing product was a NuSkin LumiSpa…. Second device has already died in under a year and I just can’t be arsed to get them to replace again with all the faffing with postage!

xogossipgirlxo · 03/11/2022 12:43

Can I ask why? My husband wants to buy one for my 30th birthday.

Make sure your husband buys the one with GPS and Cellular or they are pretty much useless.

Bookloverjay · 04/11/2022 20:23

JML, pill-o-pad absolutely crap all 3 sides are the same.

The velvetizer..... its okay but the hot chocolate is very rich

RosyappleA · 04/11/2022 20:25

Mine is the hundreds I spent on skincare thinking my acne would magically vanish away. I stick with my skin and me retinol subscription and jojoba oil now.

Every product that claims to tame my frizzy hair. They are either totally ineffective or act like an oil slick.

sadly true. I must have been through most of the products on the market. All useless.

Dreamingcats · 04/11/2022 20:32

Chloefairydust · 03/11/2022 10:39

Really I always thought dyson was the best kind of hoover 😮 … glad I never bought one now

Not the point of your post, but I had a Dyson and when it broke I treated myself to a Miele that I'd been lusting after for years. It is soooooo much better.

I was given one as a 'gift' after doing someone a truly massive favour that cost me literally days of my time and which had significantly advanced them in their careers and saved them a fair amount of money. As they handed it over to me they commented with satisfaction that it had been an unwanted Secret Santa gift the year before. I'd never asked for or expected a 'thank you gift' but had been momentarily surprised and honoured that I had been given one.

I am unbelievably tempted to flog it on ebay after seeing that the same ones go for circa £50 second hand.

There is actually a comedy song/sketch about this situation and the giving of the second-hand Christmas candle. Go on, don't overthink the candle, its the gift of having a gift to give away!
