What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

But you don't mention shaving your feet. So I am imagining smooth legs, smooth toes, broken up by hairy hobbit feet... 😂

honestly, my legs are crazy hairy (I am often too lazy to shave, I have everything waxed every so often but even for that I am too lazy) my feet are smooth as silk and my big toe is hairy like it belongs to a hobbits foot 😂

Everyflippingusernameistaken · 04/11/2022 19:02

That’s what I thought!

@xogossipgirlxo

I'm not really a fitness person, it's got an activity app that shows you how active you've been that day and it could be motivating cuz if you do well that day all three circles of the display thing close, but I don't really need that, I used it to pay in shops as it was quicker than getting my phone but if it doesn't work for some reason it's kind of awkward.

Someone mentioned the alert to find your phone but my phone is usually silent, it also tracks your sleep if you like but then you always need to charge it so you have to take it off for few hours, it's just not for me but I can see how it can suit others, you can also text, answer calls etc but phone is just more convenient

my phone is always on silent as well but it still makes a loud sound if you use the find phone button on Apple Watch.. To my coworkers annoyance lol (I'm not the only one luckily lol)

Dyson cordless! Biggest pile of crap ever…the amount of batteries that it’s had I could have bought a decent hoover for! It’s now gathering dust in the garage. Also a Soda Stream thought it would be great for sparking water but it’s cumbersome and got fed up of replacing the gas cylinder every few weeks which was expensive, that’s also gathering dust in the garage 😂

Women have hair on their toes. Some women have no hair on their toes. Please don’t make other women feel bad about their NORMAL bodies.

Nightmare train journeys due to selfish ignorant people.

The usual irritating 3 hour train journey.

People watching videos on their phone with the sound on.

People letting their children play games on phones with sound on.

People putting feet on seats.

People having long conversations on their phones that everyone can hear.

I just want to read quietly. No chance. Could not concentrate.

Whatever happened to manners?

Dyson cordless. Absolute rubbish.

In my experience anything Dyson has been rubbish. Our local electrical repair shop was always full of broken down Dyson equipment.

CuppaAndABiccie · 04/11/2022 19:08

Hunter wellies - within 18 months and with only VERY occasional wear, the material (rubber?) perished near the ankle on one of them, rendering them useless

They were bought from a ‘proper’ seller too, not some dodgy EBay site 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really disappointing 😡

cansu · 04/11/2022 19:08

Tens machine and an expensive pillow when I was in pain. Useless both. I also splurged on osteopathy and physio which also did nothing for me.

Dyson cordless. Absolute rubbish.

With you there. Not nearly as much suck as a corded one and its battery pack runs flat too soon.

Happyhappyeveryday · 04/11/2022 19:10

I second Mac Ruby Woo. It makes me look haggard.

Happyhappyeveryday · 04/11/2022 19:14

Also Hunter wellies. I had a beautiful quilted looking pair one Christmas and they let water in much sooner than previous cheapies. On the other hand, I LOVE my Dyson cordless, despite the charge only lasting around 15 minutes.

InFiveMins · 04/11/2022 19:14

Dyson fan. Spent about £600 on it and it's absolutely crap, it's no better than the cheapo one I have at work in my office. I look at it and feel deep regret every time I turn it on!

I paid around £30 for a bottle of Olverum bath oil. Smells like lettuce juice.

I'd been thinking about buying some after online recommendation, you've save me a lot of money!

Squizzas · 04/11/2022 19:26

Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Drying and made my hair like straw. Love the 0&3 then left the 0 out and noticed no difference. When I first got into olaplex I gradually got most of the range but it was too expensive to keep up with and the shampoo and conditioner so awful I gave it away. I was watching a YouTube video the other night that said the only thing out of the olaplex range you really need is 3 and they’re just trying to upsell a pile of products you don’t really need. It did say the oil is also good for smoothing fine hair in particular and I do like that I have to say.

charlotte tilbury flawless finish foundation. Look like I’ve been embalmed, wears off round my nose and settles into fine lines. also her pillow talk lipstick. Makes me look like I’d borrowed whatever my DGM used to wear in the 1960s.

Meals from Cook. Everyone says they taste just like home cooked meals but the ones I’ve tried just taste like most other ok cook chill ready meals. They’re nice enough and I’d not turn my nose up at then, but they’re not like home cooked food imo.

Bugeyedowl
Well I've just splashed out on an electric blanket and it's only slightly warm. Is that normal? Never had one before.
is there a dial to turn it up?

Another that unfortunately cannot warm to the Apple Watch. Dh bought it for me for a present and it cost so much I can’t not use it so I use it for a few weeks and then put it away, then repeat! It doesn’t sit right on me, it’s clunky, I get irritated by the interface, it pings in conjunction with my phone which has had me called out by my manager, battery life- I think it’s just not me. My dh gave me his iPhone and I hate that too so it may be an apple thing!!

I don’t mind the Henry but am gutted that there’s no definite winner between the fusion and the shark as hetty is showing signs of going.

Benefit they’re real mascara- gave me spiky lashes, same with Lancôme grandiose, all maybelline mascaras flake- Roche posay is the only one so far that does the job!

Yes to baby sleep aids.

I bought one of those motorised swings in a moment of desperation with DD1 who would only sleep on my chest.

£160 and an hour of assembling it while she screamed in overtired fury later, I popped her in it, pressed go and… she screamed even louder. I gave it a few more goes but no dice.

Then had to dismantle it all and try to fit it back inside the box to return, which was impossible.

God bless Argos who refunded me even though various poles were sticking out of the box.

hallowedweens · 04/11/2022 19:33

Just wax your legs (and toes)

mintbiscuit · 04/11/2022 19:33

Dyson. Doesn’t work on pet hair. Breaks it. I’ve had 3!!!!

manolo blahnik shoes. Not for the wide footed. And squeak.

Le chameau wellies on recommendation of forums, I wanted to invest in some that would be comfy for long muddy walks without wearing out. They're okay but I really feel like 80% of the price is the bloody label. 🙄 Was a daft purchase.

Oh my god I love mine! Sooooooooo comfy, like wearing socks 🤣 but agree the price is a bit eye watering

This made me laugh. We went through every single possible baby sleep aid money could buy… nothing worked. He just randomly started sleeping through the night aged 2 for no reason at all….

You shave your toes????

Are you a hobbit?

I always had to do big toes. Until menopause made me hairless. Except for head fortunately!

A recliner chair wasn't looking to buy one when shopping for sofa but husband sat in it and fell in love very expensive and yeah very comfy to be fair but if you lean forward too far it tips forward and when you want to unrecline you have to do an Olympic gymnast style back kick with both your legs to put the footrest down almost putting your back out plus its ugly. First World problems

I’m with you! We bought a La-z-y boy sofa, I bloody love it, but if we lean forward, it tips, or if the dogs are on the end when it’s reclined, it tips!

It’s £3.49 in boots!

Maybe she stuck some diamond on the handle?

😂
