What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Linen bedding is what you are after. Bloody amazing.

i thought so too. Bought a fancy expensive set, tried, washed just in case it helps, threw away. Hell to iron sure, but rough and scratchy like hell!
Love my 1000TC cotton though.

Rough and scratchy? Definitely not my linen set! And no, we don't have a tumble dryer, it's just line dried.

And why on earth are you ironing it? Just chuck it on!

Andrea87 · 03/11/2022 22:45

Thank you cheapskatemum, I shall have a look at that.

That’s the whole point of it! You don’t iron it. Mine is amazing and love getting into bed, going to get a second set soon. What do I do with the 3 other sets of cotton I have? Do charity shops take bedding?

Travel system for our baby, the Mamas & Papas Ocarro (9 or 10 piece set I think) with Cybex car seat. Got it heavily discounted but still cost an absolute bomb. I’m fairly small & weak, this shit is so heavy I can barely lift the pram or car seat into my car 😂
I have no choice but to sling the baby if without fiancé. I love the way it looks and handles, but wish wish wish I’d have done more research and gotten a lighter system.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before but I LOVE the Babyzen for exactly this reason - so light. They’re very often on Facebook marketplace.

I paid around £30 for a bottle of Olverum bath oil. Smells like lettuce juice.

I love this stuff so much @twilightcafe!

@RandomCatGenerator i hadn’t heard that but I will check it out, thank you! 😃

I loved my Mahabis - so comfortable - but they absolutely stank after just a few months and I ended up binning them.

I loathe our Amazon Show with a passion. I bought it because I thought having a screen would make it easier to find the music and podcasts I actually want to listen to -
as opposed to Alexa’s wild guess - than on our old Echo. Nope. If anything, it’s harder. I HATE it and its useless screen, showing me things I have no interest in and nothing that I actually want.

It is AMAZING. It’s so light - about 6kg I think. One of the lightest on the market and it folds up really small - their marketing gimmick is that it fits into an overhead locker on a plane, which I can confirm it does. It’s narrow enough to fit down the aisles of lots of planes too. It definitely doesn’t fold with one hand in my experience but it is very easy to fold, and it unfolds with one hand. I LOVE it. Really well designed and surprisingly robust. Well worth the hype in my option.

@Andrea87 just buy bigger knickers. Life is too short :)

I think my Apple watch is fab! Highly recommend!

FFS razors have a bikini blade on one side and you can send the heads back for recycling

Air and Grace trainers. They gave me weird pain in one foot and looked completely shit on me. I persevered because I wanted to love them and they were so pretty, but they just look like stupid clown shoes on me and are not even that comfortable.

Oh dear. My first pair arrived yesterday. I’ve been coveting them for ages. Not work them yet!

Blush I've been using them for years and didn't know that!

Gucci canvas trainers, really thought they would feel better than converse but didn’t

LadyTwinkle · 04/11/2022 18:26

I also have hairy toes. It's not a lifestyle choice, it's genetics.

dyson Cordless vac, absolute rubbish

YDBear · 04/11/2022 18:34

Robot vacuum cleaner. Bloody hopeless. Total waste of money.

GUARDIAN1 · 04/11/2022 18:35

I've wasted a small fortune on buying the latest or most highly recommended (by various 'influeners') skincare products. Snake oil, most of it. Finally realised that what works for me is plenty of sleep, a good diet, a couple of decent cleansers, retinol (or Tretinoin for periods of time) and moisturisers suited to my skin and the weather. Sure, I enjoy the indulgence of a face mask from time to time, but I think it's the relaxation and 'me time' that does me more good than the ingredients.

In what world is a Venus razor a 'luxury item'? Confused

I literally read OP and thought this , how is a £6 razor a luxury splurge item 😳

I bought series 8 a little over a week ago after years of using a Fitbit and I am loving it. I think it really depends on what you want from it. it's definitely different compared to a Fitbit.

MissBelle83 · 04/11/2022 18:51

Expensive trendy pram. Bought for £700, used for 12 months, sold for £90.

It was an all-terain model...had air-filled wheels which constantly needed pumping up therefore useless on all-terrains most of the time.

Shaniice · 04/11/2022 18:56

Try the Wilkinson sword shaver, It’s got two different heads so I use one to shave legs armpits etc and the other size for bikini. My splurge was a Range Rover, hated it ever since 🙄
