What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

YY to the Dyson Cordless. The battery is absolutely rubbish, I've lost count of the number of times we've had to replace it.

Yes! Dyson cordless battery, so rubbish! Doesn’t hold its charge at all

Razzle5 · 03/11/2022 16:48

Dyson hairdryer

nonsense. Just nonsense

Apple Watch, really regretted it to be honest

Snap

what a pain in the arse it was, needed charged too often

I hated my Dyson so much I just left it when I moved house.

Resell value is high

from poor unsuspecting dyson virgins!

ladyvimes · 03/11/2022 16:53

I absolutely love mine. Had it two years and still going strong. Have changed the strap twice but I buy cheap ones! I find it really useful and keep finding new things I can do with it!
One of my favourite things I own!!

ladyvimes · 03/11/2022 16:54

Sorry was supposed to reply to the Apple Watch comment!!

I charge mine each night so don’t wear it to sleep in (I wouldn’t want to anyway). Last all day no problems.

YY to the Dysons. We also went back to a Henry.

And also YY to Hunter Wellies. I coveted for years and ended up wearing them a few times and then flogged them on facebook for a tenner.

Although the battery life could be better

Not RTFT but any coffee machines mentioned? I long for one but am very sensibly waiting until we get the kitchen done before splashing out. I know I'm going to be disappointed...

WahineToa · 03/11/2022 16:58

Oh god, yup Dyson cordless.

Pair French sole shoes, so ridiculous to walk in, slipping all over the place.
Murad skincare, got a red rash all over my face.

WahineToa · 03/11/2022 16:59

@squashyhat I love our sage, the one we had before was a delonghi and it was also good.

Get a free Nespresso machine with a subscription. It's free so you can hate it for free. They are a bit annoying but I've been using them for 15 years now so something must be okay.

Drodeadledbedfedheadredsaid · 03/11/2022 17:00

Oh and a chocolate fountain.. Remember those? Used probably once twice max. Bulky takes up too much room pain to assemble and set up makes an effing mess all over the place hard to clean don't even know where it is now

You “know you’re going to be disappointed”

why? If you know… don’t buy!

love mine

Rocklobstershell · 03/11/2022 17:02

Mahabi slippers - they were falling apart and rank within a year - being made of boiled wool they are really hard to clean. They also worsened my Plantar Fasciitis as they have almost no support.

Weightlossanne · 03/11/2022 17:04

Every product that claims to tame my frizzy hair. They are either totally ineffective or act like an oil slick.

whoruntheworldgirls · 03/11/2022 17:04

@Firecarrier the metal, i'm guessing it's so they can reduce how much gold is used, basically the gold is full of tiny air bubbles and if heat is now applied to re shape it it'll just shatter, i'd never heard of it before hence sending it to 4 jewellers to be sure. Very sad about it as i really do love the ring.

But I NEED one Wink

alloalloallo · 03/11/2022 17:09

My sofa - kicked up a stink for bloody years about a blue velvet chesterfield-type sofa. Always wanted one, banged on about one forever. Got one, and it’s the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever sat on.

Another Dyson hair wrap hater - again, droned on about the thing for years, finally got one. It’s crap. I can’t admit to it though, I made this huge case to DH (who is well versed in my hair gadgetry purchases that linger in drawers only having been used once) about how it would be the answer to all my hair dreams.

Olaplex - made my hair weird. Dry and crunchy, yet greasy enough to fry eggs. Very odd.

kingtamponthefurred · 03/11/2022 17:11

GetThatHelmetOn · 03/11/2022 15:51

Any Dyson hoover really. I have had 3 and all of them have been rubbish.

Snap!

But my Eufy robot vacuum cleaner is the best thing I've bought this year.

alloalloallo · 03/11/2022 17:12

Love - I do love my Apple Watch. Didn’t want one for ages but DH bought me one for my birthday

I use it all the time - saves me carting my phone everywhere, replying to messages, closing my rings 😂, Apple Pay. I charge it at night.

SecretVictoria · 03/11/2022 17:13

I didn’t hate my Apple Watch but it refused to update so basically useless. Got a Fitbit instead, much cheaper and all I need.

Dyson Airwrap; it’s not actually meant to curl hair, it’s to give it a ‘big blow-dry’ look, but it took way too long to do my very thick hair and your hair has to be the EXACT right amount of damp. I now have a pixie so just use the hairdryer attachment, which is good to be fair.

Faux Cils mascara by YSL; smells gorgeous but flakes so badly. I thought I’d perhaps just got a duff batch with my first tube so bought another from a different shop. No, same again.

caggie3 · 03/11/2022 17:16

I pluck my big toes, and my very slight snail trail because I'm too shared to shave it incase it comes back worse as there are only minimal hairs. I now wonder if I've been torturing myself for no reason.

misses point of the thread....
