What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Oh yes, the steam mop! What a piece of rubbish…

-Cerave daily moisturiser. Very waxy, horrid texture that turned me into a living Madame Tussauds display.
-Undies from Boux Avenue and Lounge..they are so cheap and nasty imo. M&S much better but recently I splurged on a Rosie Silk and Lace camisole, and it's okay but so thin and I can tell it won't last five minutes!

I love my Apple Watch! Has really improved my fitness levels and activity in general!

And Mulberry bags. I have two, different but on both the lock has broken. Mulberry cost a small fortune and. You do repair them for a COST. I remember finding a page for people moaning about broken locks on Mulberry bags. There is/was clearly a design fault but the customer has to pay for it. Never again

ArabellaScott · 03/11/2022 15:54

Why on earth would you shave your bikini line? I mean, we've probably all done it once ...

Laiste · 03/11/2022 15:59

Hobbs trench coat.

I thought i'd look effortlessly Parisian chic - but i look like a sack of spuds tied in the middle.

Cheeseandlobster · 03/11/2022 15:59

I too have a hairy big toe. It's apparently a sign of good circulation if hair grows that far down

Neom diffuser. I love the look of them, loved them when I saw them in John Lewis. Thought they smelled amazing. Convinced DH to buy me one for Christmas.

I think I must have put it on about 4 times since. No matter which oil I use it never smells as nice as it did in JL. It gets right in the back of my nose and, despite pumping moisture in to the air, it makes me really, really dry.

WireSkills · 03/11/2022 16:03

I do love my cordless Shark though.

My Ariat Langdale boots.
I walk my dog in all weathers and wanted some really comfy and waterproof but smart country boots. £185 and after 18m they have cracked and leak :(
I have maintained them, cleaned and proofed them regularly and they have still cracked. Very disappointed with them!

I've got no idea what they are, but, nearly 3 years ago I bought a pair of Panama jack brown leather boots and I've worn them to death and they seem indestructible. The sole has literally no wear and tear at all - not sure how that's possible. My daughter had Dr Martens and her soles wore right down to the boot itself! (admittedly it took a while but still)

PlainJaneSuperBrain99 · 03/11/2022 16:08

Dyson hair wrap. Just not worth the hype and a big faff.

Charlotte tilbury magic cream. I had a free sample that was lovely so splurged on a big pot and it was rubbish... does anyone else ever suspect companies infuse free samples with amazing highly concentrated wonder ingredients and pack the full size item with diluted not so good stuff?! I've thought that about serum samples too, but I guess I'm just being paranoid. Anyway the CT cream is really nothing special and I can't imagine anyone pays that much twice for it.

NecklessMumster · 03/11/2022 16:10

I splurged on a hand made chunky silver dome ring from Etsy, looked lovely in photos but the edges were a bit sharp and dug into my finger so I never wear it and never got round to returning as was shipped from abroad.

Really I always thought dyson was the best kind of hoover 😮 … glad I never bought one now

I hated my Dyson so much I just left it when I moved house.

MintyGreenDreams · 03/11/2022 16:18

Dyson hair straightener.Dh bought me know for a birthday. No better than GHD and triple the price.

YY to the Dyson Cordless. The battery is absolutely rubbish, I've lost count of the number of times we've had to replace it.

Same! Back to my good reliable Henry!

Floomobal · 03/11/2022 16:25

My favourite thing about this thread is how many of us shave our toes (and feet?).

All the pearl clutching about women growing body hair, and shaving it. Zzzzzzz

Bugeyedowl · 03/11/2022 16:25

Well I've just splashed out on an electric blanket and it's only slightly warm. Is that normal? Never had one before.

And ditto Dyson. Unbelievably overrated.

ThrowingSomeCrumbs · 03/11/2022 16:32

Being called a hobbit isn't derogatory. I would be proud to be an actual hobbit.

(hairy toed hobbit wannabe here)

Woods52 · 03/11/2022 16:33

@Lorrymum my Hunter wellies split after a few months so I complained and they sent me a new pair without question (I just emailed them a pic). I still felt ripped off though. My £15 Asda wellies lasted years. Not as comfy, but still

eyebright22 · 03/11/2022 16:37

Swedish hasbeen clogs. Beautiful to look at, excruciating to wear. Now just expensive decorations on my shoe rack.

For toe hair, if anyone has it and decides to get their legs lasered, ask them to throw in the big toes for free. I couldn't bargain for the other toes and feet, but quick razor sorts those out.

NewBootsAndRanty · 03/11/2022 16:40

Not a huge splurge, but about £18 on two secondhand mohair jumpers on ebay, trying to ready up for winter.
They are scratchy as hell, even with a long sleeve top underneath and I can't bear wearing them
I realise now that I got mixed up between mohair and merino
🤦‍♀️

I don't think so, I have hobbit feet and toes but unfortunately they're the coldest feet in the world 😂

whoruntheworldgirls · 03/11/2022 16:42

The ring my husband bought me after our daughter was born, i love it but it turns out it's full of air, we thought we'd bought it from a good jeweller (chain branch) but seems not, it got a bit squished, took it to 4 other jewellers to see about a repair and all said it's too porous, like an aero bar :-( gutted and no idea what to do now as it's got small diamonds and sapphires, if i wear it i risk them falling out if knocked

That's so weird I didn't even know that was a thing, do you mean the metal or the precious stones, or the way they're assembled?
