So what are your energy bills this month?

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 15:16

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

They must be! Some of the bills are unbelievably low.

I pay quarterly, so mine works out something over £300 a month I think.

Our actual amount to pay is £77 altogether, including the VAT and standing charge. We must've overpaid somewhere along the line as the bill mentions cancelled charges or bills or something.

Boolyboo · 01/12/2022 23:06

I could cry seeing some of the usages for electricity, which are similar to mine, but much cheaper in cost. So trapped as I’m locked into a deal but wouldn’t be able to move elsewhere anyway. The government should be ashamed of themselves

What do you mean? Fixed rates were reduced by a certain amount and i thought you were able to switch to the SVR if you wanted.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 01/12/2022 23:22

£64 electric
£25 gas

4 bed, 2 adults + 2 teens, Scotland.

Though I've still to get the £66 gov payment taken off plus Octopus energy put £100 in my account as a Financial Support Payment so my payment is actually £0!

I’m locked into a deal with British Gas which is slightly below the energy cap (pence) but I’m locked it until the end of next year and it’s considerably more than most of the people have been posting above for the same sorts of electricity. If I want to switch I have to pay BG £179

PeloFondo · 01/12/2022 23:51

Mine is around £90 but I give readings randomly (sometimes weekly or every 2 weeks) and it produces a bill so it's hard to work out a full month!
Using 5kwh electric a day and 13kwh gas

If it's below the cap how are you paying more? Is it more than about 34p for electric and 10.3p for gas? I'm on a fix but they reduced my electric down to the cap as it was higher and my gas was already slightly under at 9.7p.

Do you have other heating?

35.057p electricity (33.535p standing charge) and 10.309p gas (25.576p standing charge)
Im guessing others on here locked into a lot lower deals, as my usage when similar kw to theirs is a good £20-40 more

dementedpixie · 02/12/2022 07:48

I imagine the majority of people are now on a standard variable rate as their fixes ended. I certainly am and have been since February.

Or on a fairly high fix like mine until March. I save a bit with 0.6p lower unit price on gas and my electric standing charge is only 25p. I doubt many are on earlier (lower) fixes.

Athenen0ctua · 02/12/2022 07:55

You need to stop guessing and look at what the energy cap prices are for everyone else.

I’m with Eon, they gave me back £72 for over charging my gas, my DD for gas and electric is £178, with the £67 discount it’s £111per month
Im £750 in credit, but my bill from Oct 11th- Nov 11th was £123- that’s with minimal central heating usage
Next Bill due in 9days, will be about £160 based on adding up the daily charges, but they’ve just emailed to say they’re reducing DD to £87 per mknth
Arseholes, they know my gas usage is going to increase now it’s getting so cold, and therefore will spend more, so why reduce is so much- how are you supposed to budget with them pissing around so much with DD payments - it’s a real mess

Decafflatteplease · 02/12/2022 09:23

November we have had the heating on average 2 hours a day.

Our bill was just over £200 but we pay £300 to build credit.

In Jan we are going to have to pay £500 a month as our fix ends 😱

We are very high users, disabled child, can't regulate own temp etc plus charging/running various medical devices means high usage!

ThatsRoughBuddy · 02/12/2022 11:24

No, just the normal combi boiler and radiators combo.

berksandbeyond · 02/12/2022 11:32

£122 a month for both. We are on a fixed tariff until 2024.

No, I fixed in October 2021, for 3 years

That's low for gas. Have you used much heating yet?

ThatsGoingToHurt · 02/12/2022 11:48

My bill was £360 for 2 months. £200 electricity and £160 gas. I’m still £420 in credit as I whacked my DD up in Jan/Feb last year and built up credit over the summer.

Ive got two small kids so the house can’t be cold and the amount of washing is endless!

ThatsRoughBuddy · 02/12/2022 11:56

Athenen0ctua · 02/12/2022 11:46

Just occasionally. A couple of hours a day more recently. Not looking forward to next months bill!

Blankscreen · 02/12/2022 12:00

We're with octopus.

Did a meter reading as I do every month and it was

£200 electric and £210 gas.

Were on the fixed price cap. 😱.

We both WFH and there will often be 4 TVs on but I really did think we had cut back.

I am so cold WFH. I have a heated throw on and can hear the heating has just clicked on but wonder if I should go and turn it off 🤦‍♂️

Baconand · 02/12/2022 12:01

We are still on a low EV tariff with Octopus until June 23. We pay 5p for a period overnight which we use to fill the electric cars. Then when we are home the car battery runs the house and garden office during most of the day (WFH). We only switch to grid if out. Vehicle to home power is so useful. Obviously it will be some years before more people can do this but it’s a bonus.

What am I guessing!?! The energy cap prices are the same for everyone - it’s an energy cap, not a specific one for a Boolyboo that the government came up with.

They aren’t actually for some bizzare reason the unit prices vary from region to region. There isn’t a set nationwide unit price

You said "Im guessing others on here locked into a lot lower deals".

Instead of guessing do the maths, most people are giving numbers that show they are on the capped rate.

No one forced you into a fixed deal, and in any case you are paying no more than most of us.

There are no cheap deals out there at the moment if you could switch, and unlikely to be for a while, until Ukraine is sorted.
