So what are your energy bills this month?

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 15:16

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

You said "Im guessing others on here locked into a lot lower deals".

Instead of guessing do the maths, most people are giving numbers that show they are on the capped rate.

No one forced you into a fixed deal, and in any case you are paying no more than most of us.

There are no cheap deals out there at the moment if you could switch, and unlikely to be for a while, until Ukraine is sorted.

Apologies for coming onto a thread and saying that I felt upset at how much my bills were and that my rates were high. Obviously you’re all out of sympathy today…..

Boolyboo · 02/12/2022 14:59

What am I guessing!?! The energy cap prices are the same for everyone - it’s an energy cap, not a specific one for a Boolyboo that the government came up with.

If you look at the cap for your region you should see that you are likely no worse off than if you weren't locked into a fix. You are in the same position as the vast majority. Those few still on significantly lower deals would have taken a gamble and paid above the cap for months.

dementedpixie · 02/12/2022 15:24

But @Boolyboo your rates aren't higher than most people as they are on the price capped rates. The ones still on a lower fixed rate won't be on it forever and will end up on the higher rate soon enough.

Your rates aren't high, well they are similar to what most people are paying, most are high.

NewBootsAndRanty · 02/12/2022 15:27

I'd imagine all of us on the SVR regret not having a time machine to go back and fix.

dementedpixie · 02/12/2022 15:28

And the price cap rates are an average so there will be people paying slightly above and slightly below the stated rates.

I'm with Octopus and my SVR is:

Electricity 33.76p/kwh and 49.02p s/c
Gas 10.28p/kwh and 26.84p s/c

dementedpixie · 02/12/2022 15:29

There weren't any good fixes when my fix ended in February so I went onto the SVR. We can't change it so we'll just have to get on with it

I didn’t say they were higher than most people’s. I was reflecting that on this thread, when comparing the same KW usage, my costs are around £20-40 higher than a few other people’s, so I assumed they had locked into lower deals for that to be the case. I’m not playing the violin for myself and thinking that I’m different from the majority of the UK, just disappointed that locking my energy deal in much earlier this year has clearly not benefitted me.

I locked in earlier in the year as well. It's only saving me £8 in standing charges per month and 0.6p on gas per kwh (£1.80 for November).

I’ve just got off the phone to British Gas and it turns out the reason my prices seem high to me is they’ve been calculating them using the wrong unit charge and actually they are at least £20 cheaper than the usage on the app has been telling me. So that’s a relief and brings it back into line with what I expected.

NoelNoNoel · 02/12/2022 15:52

£300 (we underpaid previously so £75 is paying that back), we’ve got everything turned on, 4 adults in most of the time household and an electric car.
I am on a really good rate until Sept 24.

Good you got it sorted! I work mine out through the month so I know around about what to expect when the bill comes.

Quail15 · 02/12/2022 16:00

£350 this month electric only (no gas) plus approx £30 for logs and kindling for the log burner.

Small 3 bed semi - 2 adults (dh works from home 3 days a week) and two under 4 years old.

We have used the same amount of electricity as this time last year despite massively cutting out heating and hot water because we bought a Hybrid car in the spring when petrol was sky high 🙈 which is bringing our usage to more or less the same - although we aren't spending anywhere near as much on petrol.

The next step is to turn the thermostat down again from 16 to 15 degrees and just rely on the log burner. we can not afford January expected bill of over £600 ( bill prediction not direct debit)

Weird you are both octopus but slightly diff I’m with bulb but being moved to octopus but not sure when

currently paying

So what are your energy bills this month?
ifonly4 · 02/12/2022 16:07

Just had ours for November. £125.54. Last year £56.82. We've managed to get our electricity comsumption down a bit, but our gas is a lot more than last year (wondering if I recorded wrong last year) as gas is slightly less than in 2020.

Our bill is £10 less than than the total of our monthly DD and £67 from government. Relieved we don't need to dip into the credit on our account yet, as Dec-Feb are high use months.

NewBootsAndRanty · 02/12/2022 16:08

@Blondeshavemorefun the price cap varies slightly between regions for all suppliers afaik.

I have no idea what the fuck you are on about.

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 02/12/2022 18:48

I’m with octopus energy and my last bill was £110 excluding the £66 from the government. 2 bed semi and 3 living here. I’m amazed at some who are around the £60 mark for a four bed detached with teens. I honestly think you must live in the dark.

we have oil fired heating. I’ve not had to put oil in my tank yet. Still waiting to see how the government are going to pay the £100 we are due for being off grid.

DorothyBinns · 02/12/2022 18:48

October and November were £620 for gas and electricity. We didn’t even have the heating on much in October.

The monthly DD is £147 with the discount and we’ve still got about £220 credit.

Notplayingball · 02/12/2022 19:01

£300.

cakeorwine · 02/12/2022 19:45

113 kWh electricity - £52
885 kWh gas - £97

Plus standing charge

Live up North in a flat

141mum · 04/12/2022 08:52

Based on DD, went online to change it, but no, have to call and constantly kept in waiting

Catlady2021 · 04/12/2022 21:38

Currently paying about £8- £10 per day , according to our smart meter.

This is a family of four in a 4 bedroom modern detached house. Weekends the usage is generally around £10 due to us being home most of the day.

Is £9-£10 per day really high?
