So what are your energy bills this month?

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 15:16

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

Why are people leaving off VAT and standing charges?

Snozwanger · 01/12/2022 19:09

Adding mine for perspective as previous posts all seem so low. We're paying £420 per month for gas and electric. Our heating is set at 18° in the day and 17° over night. All electric appliances in the kitchen and I'm desperately avoiding using the drier. Our Nest energy history is showing the heating is on for anywhere between 3 and 5 hours each day depending on the outside temperature.

I haven't met anyone in real life whose bill is as high as ours ☹️

Snozwanger · 01/12/2022 19:09

Should've said we're with EDF on a variable tariff.

My heating is off overnight. Do you need it at 17⁰C when you're all in bed? Why not either lower the thermostat or have it off overnight

They must be! Some of the bills are unbelievably low.

I pay quarterly, so mine works out something over £300 a month I think.

ListenLinda · 01/12/2022 19:15

£198.
(£110 Gas & £82 electric)
Octopus Flexible Tariff.
it’s going to be a difficult winter.

Mine's probably one of the bills you are referring to, but it is with VAT and standing charge. Some posters have been saying their bills are without one or both but I don't know why you wouldn't just say what you are charged?

mumda · 01/12/2022 19:28

180 quid for a month after all discounts.
10 units electric a day. Not much gas but still the heating hasn't been on very much.

That's 4 a day less units than last year.

Random1922 · 01/12/2022 19:34

Mine is 108. electric and 24.00 gas . I have not had my heating on at all yet.

Based on family of 5

toastfiend · 01/12/2022 19:48

We've just moved, now paying £96 a month for electric, which is annoying as our our old fixed rate was £66 a month, but it's one of those things as we couldn't take the fixed rate with us - our electric use is high as I wfh full time and DH wfh part time.

We have oil heating, no gas to the village, so paying £125 a month into an oil fund ready for when we need to do an order, which hopefully won't be for a while, although I'm keeping track of the price to try to order at a "good" time. According to our Nest app the heating is only coming on between 1.5-2.5hrs a day to keep it at 19-20 degrees, and we've just paid £135 for a load of wood for the wood burner, so I'm hoping we can try to keep our heating bills reasonable, and it does feel like we have more control over it than we did when we were on gas, which I like. I refuse to be cold, though, and am in the very fortunate position where we can absorb additional heating costs if we need to.

My bill isn’t fully online including those yet. Usually comes through fully in a couple
of days but it does show me Novembers usage on my account.

141mum · 01/12/2022 19:50

Octopus took £545 and said £620 from January! That’s gas and electric
3 adults we are all really good with lights and have a log burner

I haven't had mine yet but I'm with Octopus and can see this on my account.

So what are your energy bills this month?
Veuvelily · 01/12/2022 20:15

Mine is all over the place
they’ve been reviewing it for most of this year.
finally got a smart meter to keep track. It says £355 for the month £200 for gas, £155 for elec.
there’s only 2 of us

Veuvelily · 01/12/2022 20:15

I was paying £796 a month

Is that based on how much you used or is it how much they wanted by direct debit?

changer121 · 01/12/2022 21:12

@WoodlandWalks123

Us too

£501 for both

WoodlandWalks123 · 01/12/2022 21:51

@changer121 so glad we aren’t the only ones. I really don’t know what we can do other than keep heating off most of the time and use the log burner (to be fair we have heating on most of the time at the moment) so we could do things but with young children it isn’t ideal. I am very pleased to hear it’s not just us!

Veuvelily · 01/12/2022 20:15

That's half my wage! I would be howling if that was my bill

Twiglets1 · 01/12/2022 22:13

£303 a month to Bulb (soon changing to Octopus) for gas & electric. That’s for a 4 bed detached house.

Baconand · 01/12/2022 22:15

Under £100 in electricity, but we are in a stupidly cheap tariff still and generate some ourselves. That runs a 3 bed cottage and electric cars plus a garden office. We aren’t being careful particularly and use tumble
dryer etc and largely WFH.
Heating is on, but it’s oil for that and hot water so zero cash this month but the last refill was £600 and might last till Feb if we are lucky. We budget £100pm for oil but it’s hugely variable.

I’m still arguing that they got it wrong
I cancelled the direct debit cos I actually couldn’t pay it

Oh no! Shock

IWannaBeInTheRoomWhereItHappens · 01/12/2022 22:48

Ours was £400. Horrible shock after coming off fixed rate at 185. Seem to be getting through so much electricity and not sure why.

Boolyboo · 01/12/2022 23:06

I could cry seeing some of the usages for electricity, which are similar to mine, but much cheaper in cost. So trapped as I’m locked into a deal but wouldn’t be able to move elsewhere anyway. The government should be ashamed of themselves
