So what are your energy bills this month?

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

@Mealsonabudget we used 20 units last month. Will check this month in a few days what oct /nov is

82 units must be the hot water tank as 4 times what we are and we have used heating a little here and there in an

Just for comparison, if anyone is interested, we have solar panels and an air source heat pump. We only use electricity now and have disconnected the gas.

This last month we paid about £40 on ecotricity’s green tariff.
I work from home so we heat the house to about 21 during the day while the sun is on the panels. The house generally stays warm till we go to bed and is around 19 in the morning. The air source heat pump also supplies all our hot water.
We only run the washing machine once the sun is on the panels and we try to charge up any electronics during the day too.
We are still getting used to the system but I think we can gradually bring down our bills further with a bit of tweaking.

Obviously there was a fairly sizable outlay in getting the solar panels and the air source heat pump, we also got new windows. However our boiler needed replacing as was broken and most of our windows were shot too so needed doing anyway.

We did the work over the last couple of years, we had to make sacrifices to be able to afford to do it as are not high earners, we made the most of all the grants available. At the time it didn’t really make economical sense to do all the work but we did it in a move to become greener… but with the energy price increases I think we will be getting our investment back much sooner than we’d thought. The house is warm and we don’t have the worry of huge bills. I know not everyone can make these changes, but if anyone is considering it, I would definitely recommend it.

How many years will it take you to pay it back with the savings you made?

In October we used £12 in gas and £44 in electricity, these at the new high SVR.

Add in standing charges our bill was £80. Take off the government "free" money and we paid £14 for our energy last month, and we don't skimp.

I wonder if some of the very high energy users have adult children at home who burn through energy when the bill payer is out?

IconicKitty · 01/12/2022 10:26

I've just had November's bill. I've had the heating on half the month, for 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours in the evening at 16c. This cost an extra £40 compared to October's gas bill.

54isanopendoor · 01/12/2022 11:08

I just got my last months bill.
I am in a Victorian house graded E for efficiency.
It was £399. I can't pay this. I won't be cut off as I'm disabled but they can put me on a prepay meter that will cost me more. I'm with Scottish Power. They won't fit a smart meter. They won't move my meters (one in basement one at ceiling height). They don't send anyone to read them. I have to try myself which is not safe for me. They know ALL this & they just don't care.
During the last month our boiler was broken for 12 days (long story)
I am in receipt of IS as a top up to Carers allowance. I am disabled. Both my kids are too. I have called around to see if we qualify for any help with insulation. 2 Co's came out & went all over the house Neither have come back. I could cry.

dementedpixie · 01/12/2022 11:22

Have just done my meter readings for November and knew we had used more than last month as I've let the heating come on a bit more. Gas was £40 more than last month and electricity was about £10 less

4 bed detached in Scotland with 2 adults and 2 teens. Electric shower and oven. No tumble dryer.

So what are your energy bills this month?

Have you tried contacting someone like Step Change (I think they're called). They might be able to help.

£116 gas only have it on 18 for ciuple hours morning and evening.
£63 electricity.
So £178,was £121 last month without heating.im with octopus.totally gutted as had to move because landlords selling and was on a fixed tariff with edf until sept 24 that made my bills less than half these amounts 😭 told me i could transfer the tariff to new address and then refused to after move was completed.

Boggydog · 01/12/2022 12:05

We are £110 pcm for electricity (£66) paid for by govt scheme at the moment. Oil is about £250 per month for water all year round and heating in the winter. We also use two log burning stoves which if we had to buy logs for would cost a foot time but we get free lengths and process it ourselves. We have a big poorly insulated house and are at home all the time plus we live in a very cold part of the country!

Boggydog · 01/12/2022 12:06

Gas: 878kwh / £89.90+ £8.05 SC -> £97.85

Ele: 61kwh / £21.14 + £14.27 SC -> £35.41

£133.26 total usage inc standing charges.

Nolongera · 01/12/2022 13:23

Gas 400 kWh / £ 41 plus 8 SC

Electric 134kWh /£46 plus 15 SC.

£120 in total.

TinkyWinkyRainbowHead · 01/12/2022 13:43

Checked British Gas app and we used £108 worth of electricity. We’ve got solar panels and we generated a small amount otherwise it’d be more. With the £67 discount, our current payment of £41 very nearly covers deficit (we’ve decided to keep paying over winter)

Looking at my bill for 25/10-24/11 last year, I used 114kwh (£17.42) of ele, 216kwh (£6.09) of gas and my whole bill inc standing charges was £34.64. Crikey.

DohaDragon · 01/12/2022 14:04

£78 elec and £24 gas.

Athenen0ctua · 01/12/2022 15:44

November
Electric £36
Gas £38

FrightfullyFreezy · 01/12/2022 15:54

77 altogether for both gas and electricity this month so we'll hopefully only have to find a tenner after the gov't payment thing has been added.

motherofawhirlwind · 01/12/2022 16:08

£414 — £344 electric and £65 gas.

Electric car (although broken for 2 weeks of that and not charged) and hot tub.

motherofawhirlwind · 01/12/2022 16:10

Oh, and that's minimal heating (1 hour a day), no tumble drying, eco setting for washing machine and dishwasher

WhoopItUp · 01/12/2022 17:36

Mine is £353 (£283 gas and 50 electricity) but that’s WITHOUT the standing charges and VAT so the total bill will be about £430. That’s for 1.5 hours of heating in the morning and 3.5 in the evening.

Withnoshoes · 01/12/2022 18:11

£120 for both without standing charges.
Lower gas usage earlier in the month 3/4 hours a day now. Low electric users.

Logoplanter · 01/12/2022 18:49

Ours from 22/10 until 22/11 was £211

£116 on electricity and £95 on gas including standing charges. The gas is barely on.

Since the weather turned we are now averaging just over £10 a day so I expect it'll be over £300 for the next bill. It wouldn't be so bad if the house was actually warm, but it really isn't 🙁

WoodlandWalks123 · 01/12/2022 18:51

£500 for both 😱
