Thinks I only read about on MN

I know this has been done a million times before, I think I may have even started a thread about it some time ago but I'm feeling irritable this morning so here we go;

"Put on your big girl pants" - I really truly fucking hate this saying. Does anyone else picture Bridget Jones with her big pants? It's such a stupid saying. Can you imagine anyone saying to a man "put on your big y-fronts"? No, of course not. It's utter meaningless. Just give whatever advice you are giving, if you have any, no need to preface it with stupid shit.

"He/She is an adult" - sometimes referring to an 18 year old (so just about, legally, an adult), sometimes referring to a person who is or may be upset by a situation. Surely we are all upset by things at times, not always reasonably but we are just human, most of us struggle at times, doesn't mean we are not adults.

"Man-child" - FFS, another daft one.

One that really and truly grates on me - "He/She is being manipulative" again referring to someone being upset by a person or situation. I have read this in relation to a parent being upset by their (adult) child moving overseas. In my world certainly, it would be acceptable for the parent to be upset, to cry even, at the loss of their child / grandchildren. Even to say "I wish you wouldn't go", it's not being manipulative, it's just being human.

"It makes my teeth itch" - it doesn't..

Also, and I know I'm a cow, but my inner response to many AIBU's is just "For fuck's sake, of course you are not being unreasonable, you know you're not. If you just want support or for people to agree with you then just say that."

There, that's helped. A little.

"Get a higher paid job" - this was trotted out to someone recently who was struggling financially. Great advice I thought to myself, hopefully she went straight out and did just that. As you do.

I once saw one about a woman who was worrying about how she’d support her young children as they got older. My favourite answer was ‘why don’t you just put away £500 per month as savings to give them when they’re older towards a house or uni?’

Life changing advice. I mean I thought it never be able to afford a Tesla, but now I just put 6 thousand pounds a month away and I can afford anything I like!

They do

Yes. I find it exhausting and inevitable how any thread where it's mentioned goes the same way.

I agree. I feel like MNHQ even encourages it, I noticed they took down a thread the other day that was pro trans women using ladies toilets.

JustDanceAddict · 28/10/2022 14:07

quote fail. I meant to say Red Brick and Russell Group universities are a real thing.

Feyrethefae · 28/10/2022 14:22

I think mentioning the words GC or Trans is like saying Bloody Mary three times, just not worth the inevitable detail 😂

For me it was definitely the "move house" one when I was having an issue with my neighbour. I even highlighted that I WAS moving house, in 6 weeks time but needed advice on how to deal with it until then, that the process couldn't be sped up and I couldn't rent somewhere else for 6 weeks, nor stay at a friends for 6 weeks. Was told immediately to "speed up the process", "rent somewhere else for 6 weeks", "buy a different house that you can move into faster" and more. In real life I got plenty of fab advice!

M2551 · 28/10/2022 14:24

@DismantledKing If men (TW) 'solve' things one way and that infringes on women's rights, then in return just denying gender philosophy, shaking your head and stomping your feet, because 'it's not for women to bend backwards and provide solutions' would be only creating further hostility.

I can see OP trying to steer the thread clear from this topic. Sorry, OP!

Lots of mumsnetter's children have 'unlimited access to the fruit bowl'.
Obviously everyone else has it under effing armed guard.

cookiecreammmpie · 28/10/2022 14:33

The use of the word sanpro. I've never heard anyone say that ever.

The thing that bugs me most on here is when someone quotes a very long post, it's never a short one, and just says 'This' .

Oh, just shut up about your MASSIVE salads.

Christ, yes. All these tiny little, constantly running, women with their massive salads and little fairy sips of wine once a year. And then all that ‘I am five foot eight and weight five stone soaking wet. Should I lose weight?’ / ‘FIVE STONE! I am 6 foot 1 and if I get over 3 stone I feel so uncomfortably enormous...’ rubbish.

All the gender critical stuff. Sorry but it just seems so bitter and hawkish, and anyone who disagrees gets shouted down. It feels like the people on that bandwagon think about it all day, every day and I just can’t get my head round that.

I agree. Everyone seems terrified of the Trans community, which really weirds me out. The number of posts of biological men in womens toilets is astounding.

Fluffetta · 28/10/2022 14:50

That squash is the work of the devil and it is wrong to give your child calpol when they are in pain, unless they are severely unwell

Fort Knox has nothing on the security surrounding my fruit bowl.

I’m not terrified of the trans community whatsoever, and I have never encountered a problem with a trans person IRL. I am terrified of a movement which tells me how I am and am not allowed to discuss my own oppression on pain of being a bigot.

Yet another thread hijacked. Tedious.

Dry socket. I don't know anyone in real life who's had dry socket but I seem to read about it on here pretty regularly

The 31st August 1997 when the world was wailing, I too was wailing because of a dry socket. No painkiller in the world can touch it.

Intersectional feminism is a thing research it

How do women's rights intersect with men's rights?

Intersectional feminism is feminism that includes biological women of all colours, abilities and sexualities. It doesn't intersect with biological men obviously or thar wouldn't be feminism.

Or are you one of those people who think all lives matter too?

Yawn!! Why do these threads ALWAYS mention the chicken and toilet brushes. I've never actually read anyone saying they could get 5 days out of a chicken!

And Russell Group university’s

I didn't know what a RG uni was until MN. Had to Google it. Turns out I went to a RG uni! I've never heard anyone in RL mention RG. I do feel like I should be boasting about it if MN is anything to go by, but I'd probably just get confused, blank stares from most people.

peoniesarejustperfect · 28/10/2022 15:26

The one that gets me…. All these C**t insults. I hate them. Why do women use their intimate body parts as an insult? I never hear it anywhere else and it makes me fizz
