I know this has been done a million times before, I think I may have even started a thread about it some time ago but I'm feeling irritable this morning so here we go;

"Put on your big girl pants" - I really truly fucking hate this saying. Does anyone else picture Bridget Jones with her big pants? It's such a stupid saying. Can you imagine anyone saying to a man "put on your big y-fronts"? No, of course not. It's utter meaningless. Just give whatever advice you are giving, if you have any, no need to preface it with stupid shit.

"He/She is an adult" - sometimes referring to an 18 year old (so just about, legally, an adult), sometimes referring to a person who is or may be upset by a situation. Surely we are all upset by things at times, not always reasonably but we are just human, most of us struggle at times, doesn't mean we are not adults.

"Man-child" - FFS, another daft one.

One that really and truly grates on me - "He/She is being manipulative" again referring to someone being upset by a person or situation. I have read this in relation to a parent being upset by their (adult) child moving overseas. In my world certainly, it would be acceptable for the parent to be upset, to cry even, at the loss of their child / grandchildren. Even to say "I wish you wouldn't go", it's not being manipulative, it's just being human.

"It makes my teeth itch" - it doesn't..

Also, and I know I'm a cow, but my inner response to many AIBU's is just "For fuck's sake, of course you are not being unreasonable, you know you're not. If you just want support or for people to agree with you then just say that."

There, that's helped. A little.

‘My 38 month baby’

‘It’s SEX not GENDER’ (to a pregnant woman who clearly doesn’t want to hold a sex reveal party)

Everyone on here has a ‘strapping’ teen son and a ‘very bright’ infant. Nobody’s kids are just average. Equally everyone’s newborn was 9lb+ and went ‘STRAIGHT into 0-3 month’ clothing because they’re on the 99th centile.

Complaints about friends not remembering the anniversary of your cat’s passing in 1997 and whether you should go NC as a result

Oh yes teenage offspring of both sexes are always tall, slim, athletic and 'stunning'with amazing, 'glowy' skin. No young person gets acne or puppy fat or is short or awkward anymore, it seems.

The one that gets me…. All these C**t insults. I hate them. Why do women use their intimate body parts as an insult? I never hear it anywhere else and it makes me fizz

Agreed. I hate the c word and rarely hear or see it used so much in real life. It took some getting used to, seeing it used to casually on here!

ScreamingMeMe · 28/10/2022 15:36

And wtf is 'glowy' skin anyway. I've never looked at anyone and thought "Ooooh their skin is so glowy."

How do women's rights intersect with men's rights?

Intersectional feminism is feminism that includes biological women of all colours, abilities and sexualities. It doesn't intersect with biological men obviously or thar wouldn't be feminism.

Or are you one of those people who think all lives matter too?

No I am the opposite of that I think the gc are like all lives matter as they seem to side alot in many cases with the far right intersectional feminism as you say includes all women including trans women now you may not like that but that’s how I feel and many others do to

Competitive under-parenting of teens. IRL, everyone I know with teens eats as a family, goes on holiday as a family and treats their teenagers with kindness and respect. On MN, however, mention that you made your teenager a sandwich and someone will tell you off for raising an entitled brat, while someone else will call you controlling for micromanaging your child’s sandwich fillings.

“Well, when I was 16 my mum kicked me out and I lived in a squat and did everything for myself.” Poor you, that sounds absolutely awful and definitely not something I’m going to use as a guide to my own parenting.

Pointing out spelling mistakes (especially in Thread title Wink)

You wouldn't correct the a complete stranger if they mispronounced something - well maybe a name, but for example those who say pacific instead of specific, why is it ok to do it on here. It just makes you look sanctimonious (think that's the word I'm looking for)

Cuppasoupmonster · 28/10/2022 16:05

As if on cue www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/4664976-what-size-clothes-for-a-big-baby

Not just ‘into 0-3 months’, straight into 0-3 months 😉 even the 8 pounder!

Omg totally agree it’s like mean girls

Now come on.

No-one who cares that much about universities would misuse an apostrophe like that.

Nicely done, BarbaraofSeville. I was itching to comment.

PeterRabbitIsNotHere · 28/10/2022 16:09

There was also a thread recently where performance parenting was a thing to be proud of and the posters were climbing over each other to say that they were better at performance parenting than the last one. Awful awful people.

M2551 · 28/10/2022 14:24

@DismantledKing If men (TW) 'solve' things one way and that infringes on women's rights, then in return just denying gender philosophy, shaking your head and stomping your feet, because 'it's not for women to bend backwards and provide solutions' would be only creating further hostility.

I can see OP trying to steer the thread clear from this topic. Sorry, OP!

@M2551 No worries at all, not the discussion I planned but sure tis a free country, people can chat about whatever they like 🙂

The thing that bugs me most on here is when someone quotes a very long post, it's never a short one, and just says 'This' .

This.

Sorry, couldn't resist! I agree with you thought, it's utterly pointless (except when I do it of course 😊)

Are you referencing mine? I didn't see it until I went back later and couldn't find how to edit 😆

'think this is just an idiom.
A bit like "it boils my piss" or "I was over the moon"
It doesn't mean the piss was literally boiling, or the they literally went over the moon''.
I am now going to scream into a pillow, that this poster has decided to explain this. Jesus suffering Christ. It is this sort of thing, and thankfully I don't encounter in real life, that is very typical of this site. The howling silliness that posyers think is insightful. Like 'it'd be a boring world if we were all the same'.

The endless list of what is considered rude

I had no idea knocking on someones door when passing just to say hello is considered by some to be rude 😬

Wishimaywishimight · 28/10/2022 17:01

Let's not forget the thimbleful of sherry at Christmas. Let those of us who have a Friday, and very likely a Saturday night, gin (or 2) hang our heads in shame 😱

@HRTQueen Oh it's far worse than just rude. It's controlling, if not abusive, very likely manipulative, it's saying that your time is less valuable than theirs - all of this 😁

That was my post.

Did my post make your teeth itch? Did it boil your piss?

Oh well, at least I achieved something today 😂

On a unrelated note, people who say they are going to scream into a pillow.

Do people really do that above the age of 5.

My teens are both short (they have my genes sadly) DS is skinny/sporty, DD is not, both wear glasses (sorry that's my gene too) and have spots! I think they are beautiful though!

and we have a fruit bowl but there is rarely any fruit in it because no one eats it! 😂

Have never in real life heard anyone, ever, ever use the word - BOAK.

Can read it on MN a couple of times a day.
