I think the original post is valid. A major news outlet says the woman is his wife, op says it isn't so is asking who it is.

I don't really read about him or his wife but even I know she's a very smart lady, both clothing wise and business wise. No way in hell would she be like that woman, but that is not to say the woman is doing anything wrong. They just have totally different styles.

It wasn't his wife! The woman who got out the car looked like she was off on her commute or something! Carrying loads of random bags and wearing a puffa jacket!

I mean I was expecting Ms Murthy who is known to be extremely elegant. My post is not extremely unkind at all! Just baffled!!

I agree with this. I saw this on TV and wondered who she was. I read this thread because I thought someone would have been able to say oh that's x who is y.

It is a perfectly normal question to ask. If mumsnet was not so weird I would think the over the top responses means there is something strange going on.

To be fair @BitOutOfPractice she never actually did anything wrong or broke the rules but the optics didn't look right so now she pays double the tax. Rightly so in my opinion! But she wasn't actually tax avoiding per se, as the non-domiciled residents tax on foreign income is set up that way. The whole system needs changing.

Yes the system is wrong and so are people who take advantage of it to avoid tax. Especially when they still have billions in the bank. It is NOT a good look for the (then) Chancellor's wife at all.
