Who was that woman with Rishi Sunak just now at the palace?!

Is anyone watching the live news of Sunak going to meet the King? I just wondered who that woman was who was travelling with him and shook the hand of the man at the palace?! It wasn't his wife! The woman who got out the car looked like she was off on her commute or something! Carrying loads of random bags and wearing a puffa jacket! Grin

You’ve also referred to her as a ‘random woman’ as well as the scruffy comments and going on about her coat and bags. You’re clearly being negative and bitchy about her, not just wondering who she is.

well said.

it’s not just the scruffy comments, it’s the whole tone of the thread.

and yet, somehow, @NewsJunki has decided she’s the victim here

Fraaahnces · 25/10/2022 14:02

Has anybody considered that maybe the journalist WAS right and the Mrs Sunak referred to was his mum?

MidnightConstellation · 25/10/2022 14:03

Boris Johnson looked an absolute disgrace most of the time. Yet mostly it went I uncommented upon and accepted. ‘Endearing’. Because he’s a man.

NewsJunki · 25/10/2022 14:04

@Fraaahnces the woman looked like she was in her late 30's or 40's to me though.

It is an empirical fact - the person in that photograph is not dressed as convention would dictate for a representative of the government in that situation.

I think it’s fine to describe her as scruffy. She might be a political genius, but she still looks a bit of a mess, particularly in contrast to the others around her. Personally, if I’d turned up for work in my old coat and with all my papers in shopping bags, when I was told I was accompanying the boss to the palace, I would have quickly borrowed a colleague’s suit jacket/blazer and decanted my papers into a similarly borrowed receptacle. (‘Thanks, pal. Will get them back to you within the hour. Can I buy you a drink later?’ ) But perhaps this is because I am not a political genius. Equally, if my mind had been on more intellectual matters, I’m pretty sure one of my colleagues would have pounced on me as I was about to leave, yanked my puffa jacket off and thrown their blazer at me, to help me out.

It’s interesting and possibly revealing.

I am, however, appalled that the BBC said she was Rishi’s wife. It’s not a difficult thing to get right, is it?!

Thank you! A voice of reason.

Eh? People were always on about what a scruffy dollop he is.

KettrickenSmiled · 25/10/2022 14:07

He does have a £200 heated travel coffee cup.
😂😂😂

@vera99 thank you for this gem. So good to know we're all in it together, innit?

A voice of reason is someone calling this woman scruffy and a bit of a mess. And you still think you’re not unkind?

Yes the "random woman" comment is awfully revealing of OP's mindset.
How can she be a random in this context? She's so obviously a very senior colleague.

But she is scruffy and a bit of a mess. I’m confused. Are we supposed to pretend we can’t see certain things? She is inappropriately dressed for the situation.

Why is it unkind to say this? What is unkind is that her colleagues allowed her to go to the palace looking out of place.

Agree completely. It was a formal, televised occasion and she wasn’t dressed appropriately for it.

I couldn’t care less if it’s not kind to gossip about it, we need some light hearted moments in this appalling travesty of a political circus.

The lord equerry or whoever he was wouldn’t wear a puffer jacket.

😂

I would imagine as this wasn't even a possibly diary entry until 5 days ago that very likely Grin

But the reason people are homing in on her is because she isn’t appropriately turned out for the occasion. No-one would have noticed her if she was following convention. It’s not because she is a woman, it’s because she isn’t following the expectations applied to everyone, men and women, in that situation.

Wow. She’s dressed for a day at work.

Maybe she views all humans as being as valuable and important as the next and so doesn’t see why she’d act or dress any different to meet the King. Maybe a million other reasons why she wore the clothing she did.

She’s there to do her job. There’s clearly a few on this thread who very much believe in everyone knowing their place and looking up to some and down on others. What a dreadful way to think.

I think the Sunak's are a very well heeled, beautiful family, similar to the Obama's with their two daughters & Richi's wife is also highly educated like Michelle Obama... Much more glamour than Truss.. However Boris had a certain charisma & Carrie has some great fashion moments, love her swishy hair.
I wish the Sunak's the very best, beautiful family.

I like the look of the Sunaks, and don't particularly loathe Boris although agree he had to go.

But 'Carrie had some great fashion moments' - REALLY?

This made me actually LOL - can you expand?

It’s not a ‘dreadful way to think’ to expect folk to wear appropriate clothes or behave in an appropriate way in certain situations as society expects. It’s just how it goes.

Oh goodie, are we going to start bashing another woman’s appearance. 🙄

Hugasauras · 25/10/2022 14:22

This thread is really weird.

NewsJunki · 25/10/2022 14:23

the speculative nature of the thread - who is she - that the OP still insists on pursuing.

its the juvenile, gleeful punctuation and celebrating when a few others also critique her outfit

it’s taking a serious news event, and honing in on one woman ( why is she there?? Look at what she’s wearing)

These comments are getting absolutely ridiculous now! This can't be a serious poster?!

I can't even bring myself to give up the energy needed to address these ridiculous arguments!!

I don't know where to start!!!

Blueeyedgirl21 · 25/10/2022 14:24

I thought Carrie had really good style and didn’t she usually hire her outfits ? Good form to do that IMO

vera99 · 25/10/2022 14:24

Hi ho, hi ho it's off to work we go ... (though admittedly not the Palace)

Who was that woman with Rishi Sunak just now at the palace?!
Rollingdownland · 25/10/2022 14:25

No @Squerls it just made me laugh to think of Carrie having 'great fashion moments'.

But you carry on - that smug glow of superiority must feel nice and warming.

vera99 · 25/10/2022 14:26

"gleeful punctuation" is that a micro-aggression in "new money" ?
