And will this finally rid of us Jacob Rees Mogg and his ilk?

Julian Smith for NI

Someone decent for health

Rees-Mogg to the backbench

Agree with JS, he was very well respected in that role. When Bojo sacked him people in NI politics were 😮. Agree with the odious RM - get rid of him.

NashvilleQueen · 25/10/2022 07:14

My wish is that there's no place for:

JRM
Dorries
Coffey
Patel
Braverman
Raab
Johnson
Truss

I can live with:

Mordant
Badenoch
Wallace
Gove
Javid
Zahawi
May

NashvilleQueen · 25/10/2022 07:17

Forgot Hunt. I suppose he can stay if he wants him.

User17956743 · 25/10/2022 07:24

Gove, Raab and Javid in, Gove maybe heath secretary, Hunt stills chancellor,

TokyoSushi · 25/10/2022 07:34

Poor Matt Hancock, he has absolutely no chance (I really think he thought he did) Grin

I wonder if Sunak will keep Johnson occupied with something to do with Ukraine? Special envoy or the like? Seeing as he used to like going there so much, and the Ukrainians do seem to like him...?

I really hope he doesn't have Badenoch. I thought she seemed awful in her leadership campaign. I'm so tired of all the 'woke' rhetoric and culture wars.

But that’s precisely the crap that Badenoch is trying to keep out of our kids’ schools and our hospitals, to be fair to her.

(I’m not a fan; she’s too right-wing for me, but I recognise her intelligence and brutal honesty.)

verastan · 25/10/2022 07:55

I agree. Badenoch is not the one stoking the culture war.

LaGioconda · 25/10/2022 07:59

I'm really hoping he doesn't give Braverman anything, the woman is absolutely toxic.

I also hope Badenoch is kept well away from education given her views on taking support staff out of the classroom. He really needs to get Bullas out of the Education Department as well, he's several degrees worse than useless.

the80sweregreat · 25/10/2022 08:00

If I were Mr Sunak , I would send Boris Johnson over to Ukraine as much as possible too! It's tailor made for him
Matt Hancock is probably finding a divorce and many children to fund a lot to find so desperate now for a cabinet job again and an increase in income
I can't see it happening.
Will J Hunt stay on as chancellor?

LaGioconda · 25/10/2022 08:01

Hancock spent several weeks sucking up to Truss, and is now doing the same to Sunak. It couldn't be more blatant if he held up a sign saying "I'm desperate to get back into cabinet".

If he doesn't keep both Truss and Johnson on the back benches, he's in trouble.

I reckon Johnson will have a job. I think he and Penny must have been promised a reward if they pulled out of the competition. I reckon the 22 didn't want to a) risk an election and b) wait that long for a new PM to get going.

Mordaunt pulled out save face at the last minute because she didn’t have the numbers. Even the Daily Express acknowledges that.

Johnson is a bit more complicated. But it’s a face saving thing as well, ultimately. I think he was over the line, but only just. What then happened was a calculation in his head, in the context of going to the members and bringing a narrow victory back to parliament and the country, and the divisions that would sow and the blame that would be heaped upon his golden shoulders.

MichaelFabricantWig · 25/10/2022 08:03

I doubt Johnson would want a role. He won’t be able to be buggering off to the Caribbean on holidays every 10 seconds if he’s in the Cabinet.

RobynNora · 24/10/2022 23:31

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g I’m a non Tory who has developed a lot of respect for Gove too! I detested him as education sec so nobody is more surprised than me! I thought he was a highly effective and extremely progressive housing sec. I even told my other half I was half hoping Gove might be PM after the Truss debacle and made him promise not to tell a soul what I’d said!

He was also pretty effective as a Justice Minister, which was desperately needed as he came after that fool Grayling. And I too utterly despised him when he was in Education.

the80sweregreat · 25/10/2022 08:04

I'd also be wary of Boris Johnson too if I were the new PM : he won't forget that it was him who resigned first back in June and set the ball rolling there ! Back stabbing is a sport to these people

Malfi · 25/10/2022 08:16

Please not Suella Braverman anywhere.

AutumnCrow · 25/10/2022 08:25

I'm with @RedToothBrush's pithy assessment of Mordaunt as 'shit'.

Interesting article in the Mail about how awful she is. What these stupid MPs are doing supporting her in the first place is between them and their consciences.

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-11350277/ANDREW-PIERCE-did-utterly-deluded-Penny-Dormant-contender.html

Being slick and groomed is NOT what it takes. She's really not up to the portfolio briefs. If she is made Foreign Secretary over James Cleverly during this time of unprecedented international tension and the dangers emanating from Russia, this country will regret it. And be damaged by it.

TrussSucks · 25/10/2022 08:29

Everyone's spent the past few years complaining how the cabinet is full of useless toadies yet all the speculation is rehashing the same old names from Johnson's era. Where are all the talented, previously overlooked MPs that the press have wailed on about since 2019?

AhNowTed · 25/10/2022 08:33

Totally agree about P Mourdant. Way more ambition than talent. Like Truss.

So she read out load at the Kings accession ceremony, to wide applause.

Honestly the bar is so low.

MarshaBradyo · 25/10/2022 08:36

Yes she’s good at speaking - reading something or delivering a message

Bur we need more than that

She comes across as vague and also the whole I have 100 votes thing is too much like Johnson, just fabrication for effect

Agreed. He was over the line but it was irrelevant, with two thirds of the party actively against him, it would have been impossible to govern, from what I understand it was made very clear to him the likes of sunak and mordaunt were going to make it as hard as possible for him if he did it , where as he was trying to get them and their backers on side so that the party would not be so terribly split.

im not sure Rishi will give him a job, I think he needs to offer but Boris could over shadow him easily to try to get more on side, and I’d be wary of that if I was him.

if the rumour of sunak spending a year plotting to get boris out is true, if I was sunak I’d be thinking boris will do the same back

OoooSweetChildOMine · 25/10/2022 08:37

Jeesus let's hope Mogg & Patel remain out!

MarshaBradyo · 25/10/2022 08:38

If Johnson was over 100 imo there would have been a few strong voices saying no

If the privileges committee had happened already then maybe a different outcome

Sunak has already bagsied Ukraine and said he wants his first foreign trip to be there.

QuebecBagnet · 25/10/2022 08:52

Hope he kicks Jrm and Coffey out. Hope he doesn’t let Patel or Braverman back.

though supposedly he’s very right wing even for a Tory so who knows.

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2022 08:56

What's striking from so many posters is how much the public want grafters back who pay attention to the details even if they do not share politics. If they have talent they don't mind the ambition. What they've had enough of is the drama llamas and the over promoted. They want people who are focused on policy and how it can be achieved not fantasy policy which isn't founded on bullshit.

The trouble with Johnson and the prospect of him being back in the Cabinet is that standards Committee report still hanging over him. If Sunak puts him in Cabinet and the report comes out and it's damming he pretty much has no choice but to sack him. Which if you are trying to go for stability, isnt your best start.

And that's really why he's not going to be in Cabinet.

Strangely enough if you look at the speculation, Johnson isn't being seriously considered for cabinet at all. It's 'Johnson supporters' and 'Mordaunt' in the speculation.

And having been PM it's kinda almost a given that you don't return to Cabinet to overshadow or be a 'backseat PM' by etiquette. Of course Johnson isn't one for etiquette but that's beside the point!
