And will this finally rid of us Jacob Rees Mogg and his ilk?

Gove is clever and hard working, he should be in the cabinet. Jeremy Hunt will stay as Chancellor.

sashagabadon · 24/10/2022 15:20

I can see mordant as home sec , Kemi as education sec, Ben Wallace stays as defence, maybe grant shapes as foreign secretary

CruCru · 24/10/2022 16:27

Gove could be Home Secretary.

breathcalmly · 24/10/2022 16:32

Looking at this bunch of chumps, I’m not hopeful at all, no women and guessing no comprehensive background in any of them 😬

Who will Rishi Sunak have on his cabinet?

A statue of Ganesh?
In his Cabinet, now, that might be different.

Wouldn't be a bad idea. Ganesh is said to remove all obstacles - good way to start!! lol

How about Theresa May? She seems like a grown up, has made some great spoken contributions in HoC since stepping down as Prime Minister, has a sense of humour, didn't spend hundreds of thousands redecorating 10 Downing Street when she moved in, seems to be a good constituency MP, didn't immediately disappear to the Lord's.

I would be fully on board with that tbh. Not gonna happen though.

I dislike Gove but apparently he's well regarded and works hard so I'd have him in one of the big jobs. I'd also hope that Javid is brought back and that Hunt stays as Chancellor. Wallace as defence secretary too.

Jacob Rees Mogg needs to be kicked out of there ASAP.

Penny Mordaunt is thick as mince, hard as nails, and duplicitous. A bit like Therese Coffey without the modicom of intellect. Keeping her as Leader of House probably does least damage if he has to accommodate her.

Coffey is brutal. I hope he bins her.

I hope he bins the lot of them - Braverman, Mogg, Shapps, Raab, Patel, Kwarteng, etc etc. They have fucked us over.

Disagreed on Penny. In the summer campaign it seemed to be that everyone who had worked for her was very complementary about her competence and effectiveness - the opposite of Truss really. Watch how she responded to a protestor who stormed the stage - calmly, and with consideration and thoughtfulness. Pretty rare to be able to do that.

I'd thought she's be a good home secretary too.

MichaelFabricantWig · 24/10/2022 17:02

As long as JRM fucks off

Believeitornot · 24/10/2022 17:03

Jacob is the same ilk as Rishi, what are you on about?

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2022 17:03

I thought Gove was ok when he was in Environment too, unless I missed something?

ERG made a statement about 40 mins ago declaring they would get behind whoever the winner is. So hopefully they will stand by their word and fall into line.

And hopefully that line will be along the back benches.
Though actually... is there any cabinet position which is tedious hard work with minimal chance of fucking up peoples lives, the economy or the environment? Something to keep mogg and his ilk out of trouble?

RedToothBrush · 24/10/2022 17:04

I am hoping that:

Hunt stays as chancellor
Cleverly stays as foreign
Wallace stays as defence

That leaves home as the top job left, which is potentially an issue.

Braverman will be looking for it - I think Home is the one to really look out for. Rumours are Gove is interested.

Badenoch will get something. Tbh keeping her at International Trade wouldn't be terrible
I'm hoping that Mordaunt doesn't and her efforts over the weekend are firmly snubbed. She's after Foreign or Defence again and quite honestly, just NO. She's shit.

Gavin Williamson has been sniffing around for something today. He's a toad. But wouldn't be surprised if he was back as chief whip.

verastan · 24/10/2022 17:05

@breathcalmly I believe that is the 1922 committee who are backbenchers who organise the leadership process, not a pool of potential cabinet choices. In actual fact the cabinet is likely to be very diverse.

Mordaunt for defence would be 😫

Foreign not so bad

breathcalmly · 24/10/2022 17:07

Yes but they are still a bunch of privileged chumps making the behind the scene decisions, grggg

I absolutely loathe Michael Gove as a person, but when Johnson sacked him in a spiteful fit of pique a few months ago I was surprised by the number of non-Tories who made a point of saying what a good Housing Minister he'd been, making a real difference in various low-key but important ways, working hard, polite, taking an interest, meeting a wide range of people, etc etc. All the things I want Cabinet Ministers to be, in short. So if he comes back, fair enough.

Gove was dreadful at Education.
But is hard working. Was reasonable at Environment and Levelling Up Departments.

Cleverly has apparently made waves at Foreign already and FCO are DESPARATE to keep him after a series of turkeys. He's struck me as competant even if I don't agree with his policies.

No to Raab thanks.

GreenLunchBox · 24/10/2022 17:08

Well, definitely not Matt Hancock 🤣

I really hope he doesn't have Badenoch. I thought she seemed awful in her leadership campaign. I'm so tired of all the 'woke' rhetoric and culture wars.

pigalow27 · 24/10/2022 17:10

I think he'll bring Dominic Raab back in cabinet; maybe Gove also. Definitely Jeremy Hunt, Penny M, Sajid Javid.

I think she's unavoidable tbh. Sure a deal was done to block support for Johnson. Same for Braverman.

Hardly. JRM is anti abortion and anti worker and anti paid holiday. Yeah they're both rich but they're not the same. Both solidly middle class despite JRM's aristo affectations.

Notonthestairs · 24/10/2022 17:13

Looking at the suggestions upthread (removals & appointments) that's not looking too bad.

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2022 17:14

I thought that Dominic Raab wanted Penny M ?
I might be wrong though

Notonthestairs · 24/10/2022 17:15

Raab supported Sunak from quite early on the first leadership election.

I’m putting them in the same “Brexit bracket” I guess. But Rishi abstained from abortion votes so that’s hardly a ringing endorsement.
