I may have posted too soon. Sending Ukraine C-RAMs is under discussion due to the Russian missile attacks on civilian infrastructure. We have quite a few in storage that were taken out of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Defense chiefs boosting Ukraine air defense support after Russia renews strikes

US has already provided NASAM and other air defence systems. C-RAMs would be an awesome complement. It will save so many innocent lives. Fingers crossed for Ukraine.

I enjoyed that video. Good military porn.

I also spotted this in the key takeaways. Good work, dutchie duckees. bows

I hope something can be done to help Ukraine. The systematic targetting of the infrastructure is going to make people suffer badly though at least some experts have said they don't think it will make Ukraine crumble.

The story of one Ukr man and his three children who were forcibly abducted to Russia, this one has a happy ending (after a lot of suffering) but there must be so many families over there who aren't as lucky.

Yevhen is a former Ukrainian contract soldier from Mariupol. He has three children: 12-year-old Matvey, 7-year-old Sviatoslava, and 5-year-old Alexandra. After Yevhen and his wife divorced, the children stayed with their dad. At the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Yevhen and his children spent a month hiding from Russian shellfire in basements; after that, they were forcibly evacuated along with other Mariupol residents. Yevhen was ultimately put in a prison camp in Olenivkaa*, while his children were taken to a boarding house near Moscow β€” and very nearly sent to live with a Russian family. Yevhen recounted to Meduza how he survived Russian captivity, saved his children, and escaped with the three of them to Latvia.

I found a Twitter thread that provides much more information about the precast concrete structures the Russians positioned in the Kherson theater.

twitter.com/TrentTelenko/status/1588626918651621377

The Ukrainians have a lot of munitions that can defeat them. Staying in one place is also a very bad idea in this type of combat.

Desdemona I jus read that and my heart is thumping. How close he was to losing his children. Just think how they kept lying telling him his child had misunderstood that they were about to be adopted. Thank God for those Russian volunteers. I read about their existence a few months ago but this account really shows their presence and engagement. They really are saving people. What is that camp for children really doing with all those medical exams?

MissConductUS I was wondering why you sent Blueshoes Reddit β€˜Military Porn’? I clicked the link in your post thinking it was the usual sort of thing for this thread and then had a surprise when I saw the title, though I didn’t actually open it.

Something really doesn't add up. Why go to the trouble of getting all those mobile bunkers into Kherson if they really are leaving?

twitter.com/LvivJournal/status/1588250401522200576

From my POV the situation in Ukraine has never been more confusing than it is now. The Russian media is showing ppl from Kherson being evacuated and welcomed in the Anapa region, many bloggers post interviews, but the plans are absolutely not clear.

Also, thanks to everyone for their kind words welcoming me, I am afraid I got a little confused with the forum structure and did not reply to everyone.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2022 22:13

Scrollingleaves, the term military porn is a bit of a misnomer. There is nothing sexual about it. The top two posts in that subreddit currently are pictures of Polish soldiers patrolling on horseback and a US Navy crewman carrying 20mm ammunition belts around his neck. That Reddit forum and the others I linked to are well-moderated and anything gory is clearly labeled NSFW.

Several slightly different translations of the following floating around tonight.

The russians are trying to break through the defence near Svatove-Kreminna and are shelling already liberated territories.

This was announced by the head of OMA, Serhiy Haidai.

"They are walking over the corpses of their own soldiers: the russians are trying to break through our defences near Svatove-Kreminna. The land of Luhansk is littered with the bodies of dead orcs.

Every time during an attack, the russians send a platoon of their soldiers on "reconnaissance", in which they cannot survive. They die, and the next ones follow, and more and more... And each new attack is accompanied by the russians "trampling" their 200s.

Of course, no one takes away the bodies. For them, the concept of the value of life does not exist. Only "cannon fodder", - wrote Haidai.

blueshoes · 04/11/2022 22:29

@ScrollingLeaves oops, I was loose with words. Military porn is not skin coloured. To me it was just watching geeky videos on weapon systems, taking in the sights and sounds. I presume companies like Raytheon use them to find buyers for their kit. No gore at all. The raciest thing in MisConductUSA's links was probably the 2 riders in Belarus on horseback in full military uniform. Bareback Putin would have been racier.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2022 22:34

@ScrollingLeaves , I apologize if posting those links caused any concern or confusion. As Blueshoes says, it's just geeky military stuff.

Day 254, November 4th. Summary of Arestovych and Feygin daily broadcast.
Posted on 05 November 2022
in Arestovych Broadcasts by WarTranslated

πŸ”₯Kherson
Russia is not leaving Kherson just yet. Russian troops have retreated to a better defensive position in an attempt to prepare for the defence of Kherson city. The Russian command realises that with the compromised logistics & destroyed supply lines it’s impossible to keep Kherson under Russian control. The Russian media is already preparing the populace for the eventual loss of Kherson.
Russia will try to inflict max. damage on the advancing troops attempting to imitate the Ukrainian defensive operation in Severodonetsk/Lysychansk. Yet, it remains unclear if Russia is even capable of actually executing such complex military operations.
The Russian Army got its best troops (VDV, marines, the most capable infantry) stuck & the operation to save them from the Kherson trap while preventing the Ukrainian Army from following them straight to Crimea is a non-trivial one.
Even if Russia attempts to destroy Kahovska dam to flood the East side of Kherson this will immediately disrupt Russian logistics and doom any Russian troops left on the West bank of the Dnipro River. Maybe Russia will sacrifice the newly transferred mobilized troops in Kherson to evacuate & save the better-trained units.

πŸ”₯Svatove-Kreminna
Russia attempts to counterattack near Kreminna but without success. The Ukrainian Army has fire control over the main road connecting Svatove & Kreminna.

πŸ”₯Bahmut-Soledar
Ukrainian forces have retaken some territory near Bakhmut, advancing a couple of kilometers & occupying better positions for defence. Instead, Russia started an attack on Soledar using artillery & sending several consecutive waves of infantry.

πŸ”₯Vuhledar
Russia is trying to attack in the direction of Vuhledar but has made only minor tactical advances. The Ukrainian Army is holding its positions in the region.

πŸ”₯New Russian propaganda for domestic consumption
The Russian propagandists are trying to convince the domestic populace & the potential mobilized that the Russian β€œcommon man” should not question Kremlin’s decisions, go to the frontline, die for the Kremlin’s regime, and somehow, without training or motivation, win the war that Putin started.
The Kremlin knows that the mobilizations only delayed the Russian defeat by about 3-months but cannot change the course of the war. Their only hope is for the β€œRussian-friendly Republicans” to win Midterms & force Ukraine to a ceasefire, Ukrainian people revolting because of lack of electricity and/or G20 meeting. The Kremlin is probably headed for a big disappointment soon.

πŸ”₯Sullivan’s visit to Kyiv
Sullivan used to represent a more pro-Russian faction in the White House. While Russian propagandists & appeasers are trying to represent Sullivan’s visit to Kyiv as an attempt to force Ukraine to stop resistance, it’s worth listening to what was actually said during his visit. Sullivan stated that the US rejects negotiations with Russia as any negotiations need to be led by Ukraine & the main condition for the start of the negotiation process is the complete removal of Russian forces from all Ukrainian territories. At the same time, the US announced another military aid package for Ukraine.

πŸ”₯New US military aid package
The military aid package included many armoured vehicles that are key for the Ukrainian counteroffensive. This package included: 240 APC 217M1; 90 T72 tanks (coming from the Netherlands, Czech Republic & Slovakia); Phoenix ghost drones.

πŸ”₯Lend-lease
The lend-lease act gives the US President the power to supply Ukraine with military aid without additional authorization from the US Congress. So, the declarations from some individuals from the GOP on stopping aid to Ukraine are empty statements and do not represent the GOP’s position.

The latest opinion polls indicate that support for Ukraine is rising & remains bipartisan. Moreover, while some Republicans are isolationists, many are Reagan-style war hawks that would have a much firmer approach to achieving Russian defeat. Military aid & support from the US & the West will continue until the complete Ukrainian victory.

πŸ”₯Grain deal
Despite Russian hysterical declarations of withdrawal from the grain deal, the grain exports from Ukraine continue with the aid of Turkey’s Navy & UN. Indeed, the withdrawal of Russia from the grain deal was ignored by everyone & Putin doesn’t even have any Navy left capable of a naval blockade. The Middle Eastern & African countries didn’t tolerate the Russian rhetoric about ending the grain exports & starving 100M people in these two regions.
Thus, Putin’s grain blackmail & threats to torpedo the grain deal lasted 1 day, after which Russia returned to the grain deal to attempt to sell some of its own fertilizers.

πŸ”₯Russian β€œUnity Day”
Russia is celebrating the so-called Russian β€œUnity Day”. Medvedev, who allegedly is no stranger to the Black Mass, is declaring that Russia invaded Ukraine to fight β€œSatan”, in a quasi-citation of the Russian far-right pseudo-orthodox propagandist Dugin.
Meanwhile, Putin increases the number of his public addresses to justify the invasion & motivate the Russian populace.
In a classic Kremlin move, Putin accuses the others of what Russia is doing. Thus, Putin declared that Russia is invading Ukraine to fight β€œnazis” while nations that fought Nazis and suffered the most, such as Poland & Israel, are aiding Ukraine to defend itself.

πŸ”₯On culture, propaganda & prosecution
There is a popular petition in Ukraine to forbid the participation of Russian propagandists & artists who are openly pro-war/pro-Putin in cultural events in Ukraine. At the same time, Russian artists who stated their pro-Ukrainian/anti-Putin positions, such as Makarevich, Galkin, Pugacheva, amongst others, are always welcome in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in Moscow, Mikhail Kriger was arrested & charged with β€œterrorism” for his anti-Putin rhetoric & for singing the Ukrainian anthem on Red Square.

Ok, so lots of chatter about Svatove and Kherson in the last couple of weeks.

This has distracted from where some of the heaviest fighting currently is.

The Pisky to Pavlivka area in Donetsk has been where Russia has been concentrating an offensive move and put Ukraine under pressure here. There has been consistent rumours of heavy Ukrainian losses in the area, though nothing quantified.

Its been said that it's not an area of current Ukrainian priority, but I believe that has changed and they have had some reinforcements in the last week.

Today there has been some news of a successful Ukrainian counterattack and push back of Russian forces.

Why is this important?

This tweet explains:

Tom Warner AT warnerta
The area SW of Donetsk is the hottest part of the front for the past week. Russia wants to prevent Ukraine from drone-spotting and shelling a critical rail line (yellow). Ukraine must hold Pavlivka, Marinka and the road between them to avoid being pushed back several miles.

Since the bridge to Crimea was hit four weeks ago, this rail line is the only one Russia can use to supply forces in Zaporizhya and Kherson oblasts and Crimea. It connects from Donetsk to a junction north of Melitopol, which links to Enerhodar, Nova Kakhovka and Melitopol-Crimea.

This is the area, the Ukrainians are closest to the railway line at present.

Melitopol has been talked about in terms of strategically cutting rail access to Crimea and Southern Kherson but actually it looks like this is more important and relevant to that aim.

Tendar AT tendar
Russian sources are starting to realize that the Russian attack South of Avdiika/Donetsk failed. The attack on Pavlivka ended in utter disaster yesterday and now Marinka and Novo Mykhailivka are stopped. North of Pisky is the last attempt but this one is even more costly.

I believe Ukraine have suffered heavy casualties in the area from twitter chatter.

I think watching to see how things progress around this area will be interesting if Ukraine have just made a small successful counterattack.

ISW Key Takeaways

The Russian military is likely trying to use mobilized personnel to restart its Donetsk offensive but will likely fail to achieve operationally significant gains.

Russian forces are setting conditions for an orderly withdrawal from the west bank of the Dnipro River to avoid a rout in Kherson Oblast.

President Vladimir Putin is likely setting conditions to continue mobilization covertly despite claims that partial mobilization produced sufficient forces.

Russia’s costly force generation measures will likely continue to weigh on the Russian economy and generate social tensions.

Iran is likely exploiting Russian reliance on Iranian-made weapon systems to request Russian assistance with its nuclear program.

Russian forces may be deploying extreme measures against deserting personnel in an attempt to respond to severe morale issues.

Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive operations in the direction of Kreminna and Svatove.

Russian forces continued to prepare existing and new defensive lines in Kherson Oblast.

Russian forces continued to conduct offensive operations around Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Donetsk City.

Russian forces continued forced evacuation measures in Kherson Oblast.

Russian and occupation officials continued to set measures for the forced deportation of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation.

(it still does my head in to think of a barrier line of troops employed to shoot their own people. Apart from the utter failure to -lead- them that this implies ... I suppose it's a good thing because at least those soldiers are aiming at their own folk and not at Ukrainians!)

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar thanks for the key takeaways

Iran is likely exploiting Russian reliance on Iranian-made weapon systems to request Russian assistance with its nuclear program.

Argh. It is likely that Russia will also be giving tips to Iran on how to quell mass uprisings. Instability in a nuclear power is a bad bad mix.

Financial Times: Collaborators publicly hang woman for speaking out against Russia.

Barbaric. So Pro-Russian collaborators (Ukrainians? Shipped in Russians?) are now joining in the terror of civilians.
