Just that, pulled back from the edge hopefully for now

I think if I was Boris I wouldn't actually want to be back running this shit-show. He's got his CV up to scratch, he can earn far more doing public speaking and lecture tours with a lot less responsibility and tons more fun. He can go on chat shows and be wined and dined without having to drag himself out of bed at silly o'clock and he can just do.. you know, easy stuff where it doesn't matter if he's a bit inappropriate sometimes, or hasn't done his homework properly. Or have a party or drink, or another baby. Enough of all this being serious!

Lonelycrab · 23/10/2022 22:16

Not to mention the fact that he's a backstabbing bastard who got us in this mess

Applies to Johnson too though if you think about it. But you didn’t did you?🤪

Trees6 · 23/10/2022 22:16

I’m not a Conservative voter but I’m hoping that the leader will be installed tomorrow and that (s)he will get on with the job of running the country and calming the markets. Another five days of uncertainty where nothing meaningful is getting done would be quite annoying. Civil servants are saying that very little has been achieved in certain departments since the early summer, what with the leadership battle, the mourning period, the party conference, Truss’ resignation. Get on with it!

Oh honestly f**k off with the 'oh you must all love billionaire Sunak then' jibes.

I despise the lot of them. But we have to establish some parameters here about moral, ethical and parliamentary codes. And in the list of three, it's Johnson last, then Mordaunt, then Sunak.

How do you figure Sunak establishes moral and ethical parameters. He was Boris's righthand nan and stood by silently whilst illegal ppe contracts were awarded to Tory donors, money was staffed up the wall giving money to their friends setting up Nightingale hospitals that were never going to work, Dido Harding presiding over the shitshiw that was test and trace, not to mention ignoring Patels breach of the ministerial code
Sunak was also found guilty of a criminal offence and fined under partygate scandal

AffIt · 23/10/2022 22:18

The choice was basically that between being punched repeatedly in the face, set fire to, or having a limb removed with a rusty spoon.

So, yes, least worst.

Ie Trinity college , Cambridge with 5 gcses ,and 2 A levels a B and a C

A place at Cambridge at that time would have been awarded on your performance in their entrance examination and interview. If you performed well you were offered a place conditional on achieving 2 Es at A level. oxbridge has not always been for only the very academically able.

Coronateachingagain · 23/10/2022 22:19

Boris basically said he is not running because Rishi and Penny would not support him. In the national interest! 😅

fUNNYfACE36 · 23/10/2022 22:19

CaveMum · 23/10/2022 22:04

His statement read like a petulant child - “I totally could have won this, I had LOADS of supporters. I had it in the bag, but I’ve decided not to do it. But y’know I’d have won so ner ner!”

Anyway the getting exchanges are pretty certain Rishi has it all sewn up (someone on another thread said only 5 of Boris’ confirmed votes had previously supported Penny, so a mass move in her direction seems highly unlikely).

And let’s take the positives - JRM and Nadine matching straight back to the back benches!

Boris xan earn much more as an ex prime minister doing what he loves best, talking about himself

Spot on, they were all complicit.

Sunak is an ex hedge fund manager who made millions out of triggering the 2008 financial crash, yet he’s somehow held up as a bastion of morality and ethics !

Lonelycrab · 23/10/2022 22:22

Well can he piss back off to the sunny Caribbean and leave us alone then. Thank you please.

Not sure anyone's actually said that. He's not a nice man, but not as fuckwitted/lazy as Truss orJohnson. Bring on the GE.

donquixotedelamancha · 23/10/2022 22:24

I'm disappointed Johnson is out, purely because it gives Mordaunt a good chance of reaching 100 nominations and I don't think she'd be much better than Johnson.

If she gets the nomination there is a very high chance she'll win because racism.

So instead, we'll have a multi-millionaire with a tax dodging wife, who brags about diverting funds meant for poorer communities towards wealthier ones.

What could possibly go wrong?

Here: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/oct/23/forget-tax-cuts-we-need-a-tax-rise-public-services-labour Chris Mullin (Labour MP for Sunderland South from 1987 to 2010 and a minister in the Blair government) suggests increasing the basic rate of income tax to 22%.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/10/2022 22:26

It’s a crying shame that Stanley Johnson didn’t pull out…

That statement he put out is so arrogant. He’s absolutely vile. He really thinks the world revolves around him.

Compared to Johnson, Prince Andrew looks like a bastion of morality and ethics.

I don't think anyone is actually suggesting Sunak would be a good PM are they?

And your justification for saying he triggered the crisis?

Eh? I don't think you understood my PP.

custardbear · 23/10/2022 22:29

Sorry if someone else said already but the cynic in me thinks he's just seen if he could run again ... and walked away ... cynical - yes but I've always thought he rather be an ex-PM and make money off the back of that than being a serving PM with a very restricted income

Advocat20 · 23/10/2022 22:29

IMO people won’t forget what Sunak has done when voting in the next GE. He basically ousted the PM who the people had voted for sending us into chaos. If he hadn’t done that then Truss would never have got in and the markets wouldn’t have reacted so badly. He also sat back and went along with all the shenanigans during covid times….and is now smugly stepping back in to claim his prize, without a care in the world for the people who lost out on mortgages recently from what I can see.

Like it or not Boris is still popular with many conservative voters. By opting for Sunak the tories have now absolutely guaranteed a labour win at the next GE. I suppose they have probably just bought themselves a bit more time to find new jobs.

I think this is calculated on his part. In the same way he did with May.

High chance Tories will lose the next election (whoever is pm) - or at least be in hung parliament territory. I reckon he thinks let Sunak lose next election. When Sunak resigns he will stand (he probably will need to move to a safer seat) and believes he could get back in.

I reckon Boris wants to be leader of the opposition. Being Prime Minister is hard work, but as leader of opposition he could spend all his time thinking up complicated insults and latin quotes that’d be right up his street. So he’ll let Sunak struggle with austerity for two years then lose the general election to Kier and Boris will wobble in then.

Don’t see why he has to have a comeback at all though. If we have to have a former PM back in the limelight, can’t it be one of the good ones?!

I dont care if he is richer than the other ones

All of them are richer than average

Only rishi has shown any sign that he understands anything about ordinary people

Boris has the charm but he's a proven liar who thinks he's poor on a PM salary

Are you joking about Rishi. He has no understanding of how ordinary people live. His solution to the wastefulness of his covid largesse was to tax working people 1.25% more NI to pay for it all. He spunked more money than Truss.
