90% of schools in England will run out of money next year, heads warn
Exclusive: Heads say they will be in deficit next academic year, even without cuts Jeremy Hunt is planning

Anyone fed up with the old lines 'you don't vote for a leader , only your own MP' as one of the reason we can't have a GE?

I've been saying that for months- but as a reason we should gave an election. My MP is not engaging with the constituents, is generally rubbish and needs to be got out.

The tories must be making anyone who voted for Boris outside his constituency feel like idiots. They seem to be going out of their way to alienate themselves from the general public.

My MP is Bridgen ffs.
He's dire.

DuncinToffee · 26/10/2022 08:58

And @TheIFS projects spending per pupil in 2024 will be the same level as in 2010. By the next election, we will have had 15 years with no overall growth in spending on our state schools. That’s a squeeze that IFS says is “effectively without precedent in post-war UK history”.

I read somewhere that it'll be a 15% cut to the education budget.

No idea how that will work. Schools are already having to find the extra money for the eage increases. I'm not sure people understand that tbh. Teacher pay rise had to come from the school budget, its not a payout from government.

Kids don't vote though, and their parents and grandparents obviously don't care 🤷‍♀️

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 26/10/2022 09:00

Of course, none of these cuts will affect their kids.

Obviously.

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/10/2022 09:03

I've just found a leaflet from my MP has been pushed through the letterbox. It's given me the rage. How fucking dare they enter my space with trite telling me they are doing an amazing job after the last few years.

I wonder if they are starting to campaign. I'm thinking of marking it according to how truthful it is and putting it back through her clinics letterbox.
I can't throw it out yet as one or more of the adults in my house might want to read it, probably should read it, so we can discuss how misleading it is.

DuncinToffee · 26/10/2022 09:03

Sunak is paying £63,000 in school fees for his daughters.

He obviously can afford it and it is his private choice but it is not a good look

Dd is in Yr 13. When we talked about the government cutting money to education, in effect her school would be getting less, she was incredulous. She said "they can't afford supply teachers or to put the heating on already, wtf". She's the least political of my dc but she is engaged at the moment, as are her friends. They talk about the issues and then she comes home and asks me my opinion (thank you guys for being my sounding board).

The youngsters are giving them no slack.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 26/10/2022 09:14

A local tory mp gave a talk at my sons university last week.

Her answer to my sons question about foodbanks was so vile that everyone in his lecture class are joining labour!

Awful, just awful.

Notonthestairs · 26/10/2022 09:14

I don't usually care where Ministers send their children to school. It feels different when state schools are under so much financial pressure because of Government mismanagement.

Meanwhile all perfectly normal -

"Little noted yesterday. Sunak has put a close friend in politics - Robert Jenrick - in the immigration brief below Braverman. One PM ally says it’s “to keep Suella in check”.

JRM is such a posturing prick. Look at that cramped handwriting, someone should analyse it.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/oct/25/jacob-rees-mogg-quits-with-handwritten-letter-dated-st-crispins-day?CMP=share_btn_tw

The self congratulatory rubbish about how great it is to have an Asian person as PM and how it shows how tolerant UK is etc. is also grinding my gears. We all know that the membership would never have voted him in.

Saucery · 26/10/2022 09:35

JRM has a death mask of his father. Random fact.

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2022 09:35

I'm not too bothered about private schools ( if they become too expensive those children will have to go into the state system) but again it's the privilege that causes inequality and it's obvious that the Sunak children will not be mixing with any normal children.
Diane Abbott had a similar backlash over sending her children to a private school too, but she was labelled a ' champagne socialist ' etc etc. which is fair enough , but this particular stick won't be used against RS of course.

Saucery · 26/10/2022 09:40

I don't blame anyone for sending dc to private school or selective grammar. I wouldn't sacrifice my child's education for my principles. Be nice if any party could up state education so it's a serious contender in all areas though and it's one thing that informs my vote.

DuncinToffee · 26/10/2022 09:57

If there was a proper funded state system these things wouldn't matter so much.

@L1ttledrummergirl I recently got a leaflet from the local Tory Residents assoc or something.

I annotated it and uploaded a pic to their tweet congratulating themselves on the leaflet drop, entitled ‘THIS.LEAFLET.ISADISGRACE

cc’d Tory MP, Mayor and local Labour assoc (not outing cos as I informed them the use of a burner twitter account was to avoid the Fascist Home office knocking on my door).

Posted hard copy to their offices.

Not had a response yet.

BREAKING: UK medium term fiscal plan (originally promised for 31 October) postponed to 17 November, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt confirms...

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2022 11:13

I suppose they are busy ripping up Ms Truss and KK 's last fiscal event and this will be the new one.

Cornettoninja · 26/10/2022 11:17

I feel incredibly despondent today. There’s fewer and fewer avenues available to even dampen what the tories are turning this country into.

Is this country even capable of an uprising? It’s all just so unbelievable and there’s room left on the scale of awfulness to escalate.

ClaudineClare · 26/10/2022 11:29

I feel the same Cornetto. I am worried about NHS, education, the benefits system and of course the cost of living. More and more people are going to go under in various ways.

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2022 11:36

Mr Sunak hasn't really had that much experience of what it's like to be really hard up
For all her faults at least Thérèse May had some clue. They do tend to live in a bubble.
If your as rich as he is you can afford the best in life so it takes the pressure off an awful lot.
If he hasn't been so keen to throw money at eat out to help out and some of the furlough packages , ppe, test and trace maybe it might not be as bad !
They try to spin it as being ' someone else's fault ' ; makes my blood boil too
Yet we have to suck it up now :(

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2022 11:36

I meant he hasn't had any experience of not having much money , that's what I meant

Disraeli was an Anglican (although Jewish by ethnicity.)

Was probably convenient in Victorian England, he couldn't have been PM if he hadn't.

I can't read it let alone analyse it. I'm a bit worried about my new glasses now. Is it as bad as I think it is or do I need to go back to Specsavers?
