How not to burn on sunbed?

Hi I haven't used a sunbed in 20 years.
I have pale skint but do tan after going red.
I normally use dove summer glow but I'm going on holiday and that goes patchy (especially mixed with sun tan lotion)
I joined my local tanning salon and today is the 3rd time I've been on.
I went on twice for 6 mins and today 9 mins and I'm bright red.
My stomach is red and itchy
My back is also
The lady said it always happens after the 3rd session.
I've been using the Australian gold tan lotion.
I have 3 weeks before I go away.
I don't want to be brown brown just a nice colour so I don't burn and peel on holiday

Was 9 mins too much?
The least my salon offers is 6 minutes
Any advice would be great
After holiday I won't be going back on again i will go back to my dove summer glow

If you're pale and go red no ethical tanning place should let you in the doors.

Fake tan, sunscreen.

BIWI · 21/10/2022 20:22

Don't go.

ShowOfHands · 21/10/2022 20:23

If you wear factor 50, cover up and wear a hat, you won't burn and peel.

Don't. They're so bad for you

SheWoreYellow · 21/10/2022 20:23

You maybe need an antihistamine now, sounds like you have a UV sensitivity. Please don’t go on again.

ofwarren · 21/10/2022 20:23

You really shouldn't use a sunbed if you are pale and go red. So dangerous.

pinkslaws · 21/10/2022 20:24

I go red in the sun etc always do.
Then I go brown

People still use sunbeds? Nuts. Don’t do that.

ShouldntHaveBeenSoHasty · 21/10/2022 20:25

If you must insist on using sunbeds please, please at least go to a different one. The woman telling you that it’s perfectly normal to be in pain and burnt is grossly irresponsible. As are you but it’s your own body, I guess.

Which is why you should t use a subbed. Ever.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2022 20:26

Shouldn't

ShouldntHaveBeenSoHasty · 21/10/2022 20:26

@pinkslaws whats wrong with just wearing high factor sun cream like most sane people do?

pinkslaws · 21/10/2022 20:26

I'm not in pain I just have patches that are itchy.
I am red in places but not sore

Why not use a spray tan and then SPF50?

Sunbeds are so dangerous and so ageing!!

pinkslaws · 21/10/2022 20:27

I don't want to be pasty white on holiday -hence wanting a bit of colour

Pale v dead pale v dead pale v dead

yep I can see your dilemma.

CoastalWave · 21/10/2022 20:30

I used to go on them - 15 years ago. But I'm olive skinned and tan at the drop of a hat.

Even so, no one pale should be going anywhere near them. You know that going red is not normal?!

pumpkinelvis · 21/10/2022 20:31

Don't go. Honestly I stupidly used them about 15 years ago to start my tan before holiday. It actually scares me. I had a mole scare a few years ago. Even being in the sun without a high factor scares me. Not worth the risk. There's so many fab tans on the market.

Beezknees · 21/10/2022 20:31

You're more concerned with not looking pasty than the risks of skin cancer??

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2022 20:33

If it's worth cancer to you, go ahead.

I once supported a sunbed lover through cancer treatment. I remember the pain she went through with debridement. Then she died.

MaraScottie · 21/10/2022 20:33

Honestly, who cares what colour you are on holiday!

Bring a moisturising fake tan - and top it up every day. Nobody will notice either way.

You are going to RUIN your skin best case, worst case, you are massively increasing your risk of skin cancer. You might get bad pigmentation which is really hard to get rid of, and will only get worse as you get older. You are increasing wrinkles and will get sun spots on your face.

You cannot undo sun damage.

ShowOfHands · 21/10/2022 20:34

Pale does not mean pasty and tanned means skin damaged.

If you are going red, you're not taking adequate precautions. As I said, cover up, stay out of the sun, wear a hat and wear factor 50, replenished very regularly indeed.

You're playing a dangerous and stupid game.

avocadotofu · 21/10/2022 20:34

Definitely don't go and fake tan instead.

User12398712 · 21/10/2022 20:36

Are you posting from the 1970s? Surely no-one thinks factor 3, burn, peel, tan is healthy any more?
