Car crash Liz Truss BBC interview tonight

GreenLunchBox · 17/10/2022 23:50

Did anybody see it?
It was really cringe-worthy

She said 'deliver' about 230 times and blinked about 200 times a minute

She also said she's staying and is planning on leading the Tories into the next election! 😱

After this interview I have shelved the pity I was feeling for her. If I had done what she has I'd be leaving the country, changing my name and considering plastic surgery. She's certainly got a brass neck!

Grin

I was thinking more on stuff I'd read on BBC and Twitter etc. Agree that a good partner would step in and help bring support and clarity when you're floundering.

She is totally playing up to the stereotype herself though. She sees it as a way to retain power. As for Mr Truss, who knows whether he really gives a fig about how she is feeling. It could well be a mere marriage of convenience continuing after the very public affair on her part.

SerendipityJane · 18/10/2022 10:41

I hated Thatcher , but she did largely what she wanted and didn't care if it was unpopular, even her enemies respected her for that.

Thatcher generally could take good advice - even when she disagreed. Which is what made the UK a world leader in AIDS prevention. She hated, but accepted that public education around sex was essential.

In fact it was her refusal to listen to good advice that did for her. Plenty of people told her the Poll Tax was never going to work.

People sat blaming truss though need to have a word with themselves.this is her, this is her beliefs and her morals or lack of.but she isn’t sat alone round a table and all these decisions she had to apologise for weren’t just HER own.they were hers as a Tory thinker, but alos advised and discussed and agreed by all those other people now swimming around her like sharks to a seal.they sat and talked it all through, she is their figure head that stood up and announced it.
her going doesn’t stop the devastation.it’s only the Tory’s once again winning because it’s giving them a scapegoat.it’s taking the focus off the shit storm they are still pedalling.

Actually if the comments made in the house to her are correct this is untrue, she was accused in the house of sitting in a room with kwasi and cooking it up and refusing to involve others or take advice. Just the two of them.

yes she was nominated based on these pledges but not to do it all at once and immediately with no thought to the markets.

Spot on - well worth watching

Excellent analysis.

CrunchyCarrot · 18/10/2022 10:46

Truss is clearly unsuited to be PM - she seems to live in some kind of alternate reality.

On another note, I thought Penny Mordaunt handled yesterday's very difficult session in parliament really well. I'm not a Tory but she did impress me.

Cannot believe people are falling for the poor Liz line.

She is part of a movement working for the super rich and a huge transfer of our funds and power to them. We saw this begin with the bail out of the bankers in 2008

Wake up

It’s true.

She came across as nasty to me. Lots of irrelevant deflecting. Same sort of thing Johnson used to do, not something we need more of in politics.

Hunt was better.

By her own admission (for what it's worth, she wouldn't know the truth if it fucked her) she did not discuss her economic masterplan with the cabinet. She admitted that last week on the BBC.

Holidayexpert · 18/10/2022 10:54

Mordant is a nasty piece of work. She’s not as thick as truss, but then who is?
maybe Braverman!

where an I watch yesterdays PM Question Times ? I can't find it online at all.

"Minister admits entire Cabinet failed to spot the mini-Budget would be a car crash.
"It would be completely disingenuous to claim that on that morning when the Cabinet was presented with the mini-Budget that there was anybody sat around the table who said that it was a bad idea."

I'm getting a bit fed up of the rhetoric being peddled across social media that LT is having some sort of mental health episode/breakdown. In part because it feels to me like it comes tinged with misogyny - poor little woman messed it up and but don't worry, just pop her in the corner to cry while the men come in and sort it.

I don't feel sorry for her one bit. She quite literally asked for this, and ploughed on despite all the warnings of what was going to happen. She and everyone in the party that voted for her should be ashamed at how much they've managed to fuck up in such a short space of time, not to mention how she's probably set women in politics back about 50 years.

I couldn't agree more. I can't wait to see the back of her.

Can’t help but think that, ‘Actually we’re all incompetent, not just her!’ is not quite the stunning defence this guy appears to think it is…

SapatSea · 18/10/2022 11:11

I dont usually read the Express but thought this article that came up on a feed really simply and quickly explains why Brexit would never "give us back control", where LT went wrong and how the Bond market is really determining how the country is run.
www.express.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/1683859/Bond-market-emergency-fiscal-statement-Liz-Truss-Jeremy-Hunt-gilts-debt

I have absolutely no sympathy for her or respect for most of the shower of MP's we have at present. Feels like they are all looking to feather their own nests further down the road. I feel totally politically homeless (but will vote Labour and hope we get a refrendum on PR). With the FPTP system I've never lived anywhere where my vote made a difference, always safe seats. All those Tory members who voted for Truss and her lack of detail about her great "package of measures and tax cuts" should be hanging their heads in shame.

Notonthestairs · 18/10/2022 11:12

"So they should all resign ?"

Given the lead proponent of the policies hasn't resigned I don't see that happening.

But really why shouldn't they? If (big if) the Minister is to be believed not one of them questioned any part of it. This seems like madness. They've cost the public money & shot their credibility.

ptsdmum · 18/10/2022 11:17

I wouldn't be surprised to find out she's been dosed up with benzodiazepines, because her behaviour looks a lot like somebody under sedation with that, over confident, a bit confused and odd, hard to get through to.

It is possible both to be a terrible person and to have a mental health breakdown.

willowstar · 18/10/2022 11:24

Liz Truss is my local MP. I have had an eye on her for years and have watched in horror as she has risen up through the ranks. I have no understanding whatsoever how someone so devoid of compassion, morality, charm or intelligence and so laden with poisonous ideology can rise to the position she has. I just have no idea.

I know she would be a monumental screw up but even I am shocked how quickly it has happened.

I have no sympathy for her whatsoever. This is who she is. My anger is with the people I live amongst who have voted her in for so many years. We are not a wealthy area. I just don't understand it.

ptsdmum · 18/10/2022 11:25

Benzos can cause eye problems, like visual disturbances and twitching

DeborahVance · 18/10/2022 11:28

I have zero sympathy for her, she is an arrogant fool who has brought this on herself and who has fucked over the country.

It will be excruciating to watch her wheeled out with all other former PMs at state events. I hope that she finds it every bit as uncomfortable and embarrassing as she should.

Still better than being burned at the stake. Or hanged. Or beheaded.
