What are your recurring dreams about?

I have a few. They are never nice ones and I've been having them for years, probably every couple of months.

The one I hate the most is where I've forgotten I have pets after leaving them alone for months locked up in the house. For some reason I'm living somewhere else. Sometimes it's cats and other times it's dogs and the dread of going back to the house where they have more than likely starved to death is awful.

Another I have is living in a country that's at war. I hear the planes flying over and its just terrifying.

Do you have any recurring dreams?

Oh and getting to the airport and realising I haven't packed anything!

cliffdiver · 15/10/2022 19:47

I'm at college and I've forgotten to do my art project.

I have to sit an exam that I haven’t revised for is a common one of mine. Another one is where I’m wandering around the corridors of my old school not knowing which classroom I’m supposed to be in.

I have those too. Also needing to pack for a holiday or move and having done nothing and be desperately rushing around to get things done.

Other one is being deliberately excluded from a group. But that is one I can guess the underlying reason behind.

Beanniebaby22 · 15/10/2022 19:48

@ShowOfHands yes the toilet one! I have that all the time too. There’s no doors on the cubicles or there’s 2 toilets in the one cubicle. Or they’re all blocked and dirty.

MarshaBradyo · 15/10/2022 19:50

Also driving in a car and can’t stop for the lights or a bend

Honeypickle · 15/10/2022 19:51

@ofwarren I have exactly the same about the pets! I haven’t been home in days/weeks and I suddenly remember I have to feed the cats and the feeling of dread as I return home to see if they’ve died is immense. I don’t think I ever discover dead pets but it’s the impeding sense of dread and doom that stays with me.
I also dream repeatedly that I haven’t revised for an exam I’m about to sit, or that I’ve stopped attending one subject lesson for weeks, or that I’m in a play and don’t know my lines.
Lots of anxiety dreams there!!

I've never discovered a dead pet yet but the feeling of dread and guilt is awful isn't it.

I’m in the back of a moving car and there is no driver. I’m trying to steer the car from the back seat. I’m sure that one could probably be easily explained lol.

My teeth falling out. It starts with a loose one, then the rest follow. If it is not teeth, it is my mouth feeling full of gunk that I keep pulling out.

I mostly lucid dream so am aware I am dreaming and can control the direction of dreams to a point... but it gets fucking ruined when I am talking to some dream NCP and my mouth fills up with stuff.

Another one is needing the loo, and never finding a suitable toilet.

I have the toilet one about once a week. I go into public toilets but there's something wrong with each one - they're too high up, or they're overflowing, and they're usually overlooked.

I lucid dream sometimes too and have started to use the toilets as a sign that I'm dreaming.

Vampirethriller · 15/10/2022 19:55

All my dreams are in a kind of parallel universe- so there's a London but it's not London, my old school but it's not, my university, and so on. Always the same universe and each dream I'm doing something perfectly normal. I've got a job, a family who are slightly different to this one, I can remember things I've done there.

Loads.

Late for school - by several hours - and failing my education.

Sitting exams I haven't revised for.

In a play where I haven't learned the words.

Packing to leave somewhere and running really late.

Trying to type a number into a phone and it won't work.

Finding a room in my house.

Teeth falling out.

Unable to find a clean or private toilet.

Tidal waves.

I also dream that I'm furious with my Mum but I don't know why.

As a child, I used to dream about a witch coming to kill me and my parents super gluing my head to a busy road.

The school one! I have dreams about that. I then look at my peers and utter disbelief that we are there.. we are all in our 40s!

Yes to the phone number one. Or any sort of typing at all. It always fails.

Tidal waves... I get that one a lot too. Or big scary things exploding in the sky.

I get a recurring dream that I am earth shatteringly mad at my sister. One recurring dream is that we are both living with my parents. I keep asking why she is there as she has kids and a husband. She can never tell my why.

Dreams are weird. It is also weird that there can be recurring ones that many people get about modern concepts such as toilets. I wonder what the psychology behind this is.

I always dream I find another room in my house and think of what I'm going to put in there. The house is always familiar in my dream but it's not the house I live in now, it kind of just represents it. I looked it up and apparently it means I think I have unfulfilled potential which makes sense.

@cookiecreammmpie I have the same dream! Sometimes its a whole new wing of a house or more storage in a room I thought I knew.

I have this dream too! It's always pleasant.
I take it to mean we could do with living in a bigger house. We are a bit squashed.

If it's unfulfilled potential then that's hopeful because it suggests it will be fulfilled eventually.

What I find fascinating about dreams is how any kind of technology never works properly. Lights don't either - they might come on really dimly or not at all. It's as if dreaming is led by some primeval part of our brain that can't cope with technology.

I've never thought about it but you are right. I can never get my phone to work or the TV to come on.
Such an interesting topic. I'd love to know more about it all.

I've had the same dream all my life. It's nighttime and a bit stormy, I'm in the countryside. I think it's sometime in the 18th century from the clothes I'm wearing (dress and shawl), and I'm carrying an important message to a big house on the hill. It all feels very urgent.

I wish I'd make it to the big house sometime!

Minimalme · 15/10/2022 20:02

Throughout my childhood, I had a dream where I could fly

How lovely! I'd love to dream in the past like that.

Yeah me too. They stopped as an adult though. I bet there is some significance to that.

I dream of this too.

Posted accidentally! I could fly by doing the breaststroke. It was beautiful and so real I really believed it might come true some day.

As an adult I have nightmares about my parents. I am no contact so know I shouldn't be with them and they are appalling to me.

It bothered me until I realised that it is just my memory letting go the bad stuff.

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 15/10/2022 20:05

My reoccurring dream is where I'm trying to walk but my legs are almost walking in slow motion. Sometimes I grab onto objects to pull myself along. Noone seems to notice it and everything else in the dream is normal except for my slow motion legs.

TimeForNowt · 15/10/2022 20:06

I usually have painfully boring dreams about brushing my hair or something. Years ago, when I was in a miserable marriage and a too-small house, I would constantly dream about finding a cupboard that opened into a previously unknown wing of the house, with more floors, a kitchen, bedrooms, etc. It was usually in a state of disrepair and needed a complete overhaul to be liveable, but the space was amazing. I feel it was a good representation of my actual life of feeling squeezed into a too-small home, as well as the state of my marriage, falling into disrepair.

I don't have those house related dreams anymore, but I still dream about brushing my hair from time to time. 😄

I did this too. Not particularly high off the ground, probably about 6 foot and only flying at swimming speed.

I have swimming through the air dreams too, though not as frequently as the extra room one.

I also have them where I need to scream but no sound comes out.
