What are your recurring dreams about?

I have a few. They are never nice ones and I've been having them for years, probably every couple of months.

The one I hate the most is where I've forgotten I have pets after leaving them alone for months locked up in the house. For some reason I'm living somewhere else. Sometimes it's cats and other times it's dogs and the dread of going back to the house where they have more than likely starved to death is awful.

Another I have is living in a country that's at war. I hear the planes flying over and its just terrifying.

Do you have any recurring dreams?

Watching a plane knowing it's going to crash.
Sitting down to an exam knowing I hadn't done any revision.

@ofwarren I wonder what the meaning is of it..

I'm trying to look now but I'm not sure what to Google.
Fascinating how lots of people are dreaming similar themes!

Whoops should've read the entire post! I got so excited when I saw it 😀

Unfulfilled potential makes sense

I'm always gutted when I wake up and it's not true lol. Sometimes it's an extra room that I've forgotten about and I suddenly wonder why we're not using it. So the unfulfilled thing is spot on for me I think. I left my job to raise kids and I've not got the confidence anymore. I often think I should be doing more with myself but don't know where to start.

thenightsky · 15/10/2022 19:01

That I'm driving over huge sweeping flyover type roads in the sky with nothing to support them. I cannot get off them as I keep missing the turning and ending up going round and round the same bit over again.

Another driving one: I'm supposed to be driving up a hill at twilight to reach a hotel I can see in the distance, lit up and welcoming looking. Again, I cannot seem to get myself on the correct bit of road to actually reach my destination.

Often dream I'm running away from someone who won't stop fucking talking loudly in my ear, despite me shouting shut up and fuck off.... yep, I've left my Audible book on play and dozed off again! Grin

Falling, mainly in lifts. My brother in law used to be a lift engineer & reassured me that modern lifts have very sophisticated stopping mechanisms so you can’t drop to the bottom of the shaft. I also dream a lot that something has happened to my oldest bunny. Actually he’s the only one out of all of them that has never been I’ll or injured! 🐰🐰🐰🐰

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 15/10/2022 19:01

Ill not I’ll!

Shutupyoutart · 15/10/2022 19:04

My recurring dreams are usually about being chased by something or someone usually some kind of wild animal, the most recent dreams involve me being involved in different crimes.

XenoBitch · 15/10/2022 19:05

My teeth falling out. It starts with a loose one, then the rest follow. If it is not teeth, it is my mouth feeling full of gunk that I keep pulling out.

I mostly lucid dream so am aware I am dreaming and can control the direction of dreams to a point... but it gets fucking ruined when I am talking to some dream NCP and my mouth fills up with stuff.

Another one is needing the loo, and never finding a suitable toilet.

CandyLeBonBon · 15/10/2022 19:25

Being pregnant with a 4th baby and not wanting to start all over again. I have about 1 or two a month like that!

Teddeh · 15/10/2022 19:29

I have both positive and negative ones. A friend who's interested in spiritual traditions (she was raised Roman Catholic, became evangelical Christian, and is now devoted to Wicca) believes in prophetic dreams but says that in these and other traditions, recurring dreams are NOT considered prophetic, but rather psychological: the dreamer's psyche persistently trying to reveal a deep-seated need or problem.

(1) I'm in a place I don't know and shouldn't be. I have a stable and happy life there, but I know something is wrong and I should be elsewhere. I have no details of my old/real life and no idea how to get "back", but I'm terrified that I'm "lost".

(2) Someone is trying to convince me of something, but DreamMe knows it's false and speaks out. Last one was a stranger trying to intimidate me by showing me her "trained attack snakes" on a necklace. I laughed, addressed her by name (which in the dream I didn't realise I knew until I said it), and told her there were no snakes on her necklace but if there had been it would have been cruel to keep them there.

(3) My parents (who in real life died when I was a teenager/early 20s) tell me they are taking me someplace, just the three of us, to reveal a family secret. It's always a pleasant but kind of "otherwordly" secret (magical powers, flying, a secret special family history) and usually a "coming of age" kind of thing.

(4) I'm part of a revolutionary, cause/group that's on the run all the time, and have to hide/destroy all traces of my group's presence in a particular place because we've been compromised.

(5) I'm suddenly back in a place I used to be and I'm welcomed back and it feels right. A few times this is university, and I've just discovered I need to go back and finish my degree, other times it's an old job/employer or a city I've lived in but left.

I also have a particular political figure who's appeared in various types of dreams for years. No idea what that's about!

ofwarren · 15/10/2022 19:31

That's really interesting, thank you @teddeh

I also dream that there are extra rooms in our house. I'm never surprised that they're there in the dream, more like 'I wonder why we're not using this master suite instead of our tiny bedroom?'

I looked it up and apparently it's to do with discovering lost parts of yourself and it's particularly common for young mums to have it.

Overrunwithlego · 15/10/2022 19:33

Planes crashing, near or on me. I’ll try and run away but they sort of follow me, even doing loop the loops. One time, Jon Bon Jovi was the pilot, which was very odd. 😂

DaftyLass · 15/10/2022 19:35

I haven't looked into it, but I might now!
I love the water, and the water in my dreams is never scarey, it's just always a feature.
My last one was that I was trying to get to a rented cottage, but I could only go there on a row boat, and someone else kept taking it and not putting it back at the dock.

Northernsouloldies · 15/10/2022 19:36

Locking a door but someone being able to open from the out, had this dream for yrs. 🤔

MarshaBradyo · 15/10/2022 19:36

A few
waves overtaking a beach
exam and not being ready
going back to boarding school in 40s
extra room in house that I can’t believe we forgot
packing that goes on forever

ofwarren · 15/10/2022 19:37

Gosh, the extra room one is really common!

OP posts:
Eyesopenwideawake · 15/10/2022 19:38

I have a strange one. I'm living in a small house and trying to figure out how to fit stuff in and then realise there's several other rooms that belong to the house that I'm not using. It's happened several times. Would love to figure it out!

Toomanysleepycats · 15/10/2022 19:39

I have a recurring dream where I can jump incredibly high, say 50 feet and can just stay up for as long as I want, so not quite a flying dream though I can move about up there.

In the dream I have forgotten I can do this, so I’m always really happy I have remembered. There are always people about and I’m generally disappointed that they are not taking much notice of me. Not hard to guess what this dream is about!

@ofwarren I think your dream is about some responsibilities you have (work, family, pets). Your subconscious is telling you that you are worrying about them/it and you feel you may forget something important that will mean things go horribly wrong.

Beanniebaby22 · 15/10/2022 19:40

Yes I often have the dream about an extra room in my house I’ve forgotten about! Or that I have another dog I forgot about.

Another is being back at school but I’m the age I am now, I’ve lost my timetable and can’t remember what classes I’m supposed to be in. Then it’s the end of the year, I have to sit my A Levels but I haven’t studied and I haven’t attended any of the classes all year because I lost my timetable, and I keep thinking I’ve already done these exams why do I have to do them again?!

Oh and I often dream about needing to climb or descend a staircase but there are stairs missing/ big gaps I have to get across (I am terrified of heights in real life).

On holiday I always dream that I need to briefly fly home mid holiday to sort something out and then fly back again.

Or I will dream that I’m in work and I can’t read anything and can’t get anything done.

Facecream · 15/10/2022 19:41

Going back to my childhood home, but it’s always the house is redeveloped or redevelopment is going on around it.
I’m always scared in that dream.

I have nightmares repeatedly about the doctor that sexually assaulted me, several times a month and worse sometimes. Always weird stuff like I’m being forced to go on a date with him and I can’t escape and I’m frozen or I bump into him in my old uni and look out the window and want to jump out and kill myself. Or he’s in my favourite childhood toy shop. Fucking weird

ofwarren · 15/10/2022 19:42

This is definitely true. I'm a carer to one of my 3 kids and he has complex medical issues. I have to remember so much!

Eyesopenwideawake · 15/10/2022 19:42

Never knew the extra room one is so common!!

lemmein · 15/10/2022 19:45

I was late going to uni and finished my degree about 6 years ago. Ever since, I dream that I've forgot to do my dissertation and the course is over. I think maybe this is because after I left uni I didn't carry on doing the vocational job the course was for and instead became SE/WFH. I'm happy with my choice but maybe dream me isn't 🤔 I have the same dream at least once a month!

I also have a ridiculous amount of sex/affair dreams, and an unspeakable one about Boris Johnson the other night which I hope doesn't reoccur 😐

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2022 19:46

Loads.

Late for school - by several hours - and failing my education.

Sitting exams I haven't revised for.

In a play where I haven't learned the words.

Packing to leave somewhere and running really late.

Trying to type a number into a phone and it won't work.

Finding a room in my house.

Teeth falling out.

Unable to find a clean or private toilet.

Tidal waves.

I also dream that I'm furious with my Mum but I don't know why.

As a child, I used to dream about a witch coming to kill me and my parents super gluing my head to a busy road.
