If you can run 5k how long does it take you and do you stop/walk inbetween?

A scientific survey, I know, but I've recently set myself a goal to run 5k without stopping and wonder how long on average it should take or it takes you? I'm not training for any particular event so it's more of a fitness target for myself.

Can do it without stopping, pretty sure it takes me about 36 minutes. I rarely track the distance I run, am not interested. My PB is 2 miles in < 16 minutes, 4 years ago when I was 50.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 12/10/2022 22:03

About 35 minutes. No stopping. My target is 30 minutes.

Kleptronic · 12/10/2022 22:05

Between 32 and 40 mins ish depending on the weather/terrain/fucks given.

32 mins without stopping. I don’t have a clue if that’s slow or average though, it’s certainly not fast!

Kleptronic · 12/10/2022 22:05

Without stopping.

napody · 12/10/2022 22:06

32 as well- are you going to do couch to 5k?it's absolutely amazing, never would have thought I would manage 5k without stopping before doing it

countdowntonap · 12/10/2022 22:08

Mid 30s. My best was sub 23 mins in Covid lockdown. Now if i
do it at a more leisurely pace it’s 26-27mins.
Could hardly run any distance at all 5 years ago.

VladmirsPoutine · 12/10/2022 22:08

@napody That's the plan, at the moment I'm lucky if I manage under an hour!

30-33 minutes depending on how hard I'm pushing myself and how long it's been since my last run. If I ever want to stop I just try to slow down my pace instead for a bit of a break. Good luck! 💪

Runningintolife · 12/10/2022 22:09

Take me as your slow end of the scale - About 50 mins, just running or run walking, in the very last few at my parkrun, sometimes behind fast walkers. I can run a marathon but I don't do fast...

Ballocks · 12/10/2022 22:09

Sub 33-35 minutes. Target is 30 mins. I’m mid 40’s in age.

Hoolihan · 12/10/2022 22:10

I did C25K last year and did the final 5k run in 40 mins, no stopping. It was the one and only time I've ever run 5k though and it HURT.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 12/10/2022 22:10

Somewhere between 35 and 40 minutes - usually closer to 40. I think that's quite slow but I don't care and I'm just glad I can do it! I got into running 3 years ago with couch to 5k and have lost 25kgs since then.

megletthesecond · 12/10/2022 22:11

About 31 minutes. I usually stop once or twice to brisk walk. I'm 48.

smooththecat · 12/10/2022 22:12

I can do it in 30 mins, I’ve finished C25K now. I don’t feel like I’ve really pushed myself or tried, other Ethan when running the ‘intervals’ as part of the programme (where I go much faster than on the long runs) so no idea how fast I can go.

smooththecat · 12/10/2022 22:13

Not Ethan! He’s not involved. Other than.

TomAllenWife · 12/10/2022 22:14

I was never a runner
Did C25K
Can now run 5k in about 32 mins, I'd love to get down to 30 mins

I love running, I can switch off completely and just enjoy

lechatnoir · 12/10/2022 22:14

At the moment about 35 mins unless there's a hill then I'll be walking up it. This time last year sub 30 was what I'd consider a decent 5km run.

5 years ago it would have taken me about 50 minutes with a lot more walking that running - I was NOT a runner. And now I am and it's greatSmile

keep it up op, repeat a week if you're struggling but you'll get there. And then you'll be a runner too Grin

Frazzled2207 · 12/10/2022 22:17

Usually about 30-31 minutes but in the past when fitter 25.
don’t usually stop.
but I have been running for over 15 years.

good for you whatever your time.

Drbrowns · 12/10/2022 22:17

i can do 5km without stopping, but slowly, takes about 40mins. Started with c25k in a running club in January, couldn’t run 100m at the time. It doesn’t matter how slow you go. It just matters that you go.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2022 22:18

I can't do it now thanks to a dodgy knee, but when I did C25K I could do 5k in 35 minutes. I was late 40s at the time and a slow and steady runner.

Beginningless · 12/10/2022 22:19

I’m 32/33, pb was just over 30 and I’ve never managed to get it under 30 but would love to…

LimboLass · 12/10/2022 22:20

I eventually got down to 25 minutes at parkrun after starting at about 29 the first time. Not been for several years now and this thread might get me there on Saturday.

eurochick · 12/10/2022 22:20

I'm about 35 minutes too. I assumed that was really slow as I was always with the stragglers at my local parkrun. Interesting to see it is pretty average on this thread.

alwaysmovingforwards · 12/10/2022 22:21

Average about 25mins.

I run quite often though, good for my MH.
