Just wondered how MNHQ figure out someone is a troll? I always get on the threads too late, but does anyone have any good troll thread stories for me?

I can’t stand them either! I don’t find it hilarious or entertaining, because some people really do believe that stuff and I find it really sad.

No need to sneer at people. Not everyone will be an expert on trolling, some will literally drop in and take threads at face value. If they get taken in they aren't necessarily 'waving their pom poms'.

There was one particularly nasty troll who used to post upsetting ableist comments so we would turn the threads into a discussion about the best type of cake and ignore their ranting completely whilst waiting for the night watch to shut it down.

And yet these people will be responsible for teaching their children about the dangers/pitfalls of the internet.

I think by 'waving their pom poms', the PP was talking about those who excitedly use someone else's misfortune (troll thread or not), as their own personal entertainment.

They tend to be the ones who don't want it to be untrue even when it obviously is, because they've got themselves so over invested in a stranger's life.

I think it's fair to believe that a lot of stuff on here is made up old cobblers. As a naive newbie I got sucked in and was truly shocked to find the overly dramatic, live updated thread I was following was not real and the thread disappeared before I found out the ending
But the longer you spend on here the more obvious the fakery becomes.

Why have I not heard of either The Water Troll or the M&S Troll? Are they not recent? I've been doing some heavy lurking here for the past three years or so.

I desperately want to know what happened with the recent Creepy Music in the Garden thread. The deletion message said something about it being serious.

I saw one recently that I was sure was a troll. A guy saying how he let his wife and best friend kiss and she said something like "wow I can feel your erection on my thigh" and everyone was like, do men think women actually say this stuff?

But I'm sure that didn't get deleted and I felt really confident they were a troll.

My troll dar must be way off

the deletion message said they were sock puppeting, but it didn't say whether their actual story was genuine. So were they deleted because of the sock puppetry, or because they made the whole thing up.

there were people up all night supporting that OP, so the deletion message wasn't that helpful.

That was completely made up and they came back a day or two later with a completely different story about their DH - also deleted. Really easy to spot as it followed the same MO as before - always very vague and becomes more ridiculous as it progresses.

Genuine situations do not follow that kind of pattern.

IIRC, they had three threads deleted in the space of a few days.

The thought on that one is that it was actually nothing and OP couldn't think of a suitable ending for all the invested hangers-on, so asked for it to be deleted.

quiet sexual language/detail
period leaks/weeing yourself
Rants about M+S
Conspiracy theories (Covid bollox as well)
way too much detail and drama
'Everyone clapped and cheered' - I'm so amazing
Parking/odd things that drag on for DAYS
Teenage sex
People who don;t know the number/sex of their kids, can't answer questions don;t know the difference between Mexico/USA
People being 'blue lighted' everywhere
