Noseybonks - it's terrified me!

Nuclear war which started when I read "When the Wind Blows"
80s Incredible Hulk
Return to Oz

Remembered another, the priest hole at my aunt and uncles. I was young enough to not fully understand how or why they were used, and something got lost in translation and I had the idea priests were permanently locked in/ buried alive.

Oh no! That would cause some serious trauma to a child..

The Demon Headmaster kids tv show. The eyes 👀

LidlCinnamonBun · 02/10/2022 22:14

Crimewatch. I watched it with my dad and was scared. He then announced ‘well you should be scared it’s ALL REAL’ so I was terrified I was a little sick in my mouth

RuthW · 02/10/2022 22:15

The Banana Splits

The witch in The Wizard of Oz stage show.

Tupperwarelid · 02/10/2022 22:16

Mr Claypole the jester in Rentaghost.

junkdrawer · 02/10/2022 22:17

Wheelers from the Wizard of Oz.

sweetkitty · 02/10/2022 22:18

The Russians dropping a nuclear bomb on us
Saddam Hussein and the first Iraq War
Freddy Kruger
this film called Basketcase where a boy carried about his deformed twin I think

SergeiL · 02/10/2022 22:18

Yy to Mr claypole

DinosApple · 02/10/2022 22:20

Yy to the Demon Headmaster here too. I don't know the actors name but whenever he comes in anything even now I say to my DC he's the Demon Headmaster.

I have a vague recollection of a kids TV program from the 80s, badly dubbed, about a boy who lost his smile or his smile was stolen.

I think kids TV is less scary now 😆.

Hole in the ozone layer

(Is there still a hole?)

ThatThingOverThere · 02/10/2022 22:23

Nuclear War. I was allowed to watch Threads aged around 10. I had night terrors for months after that.

funnyoldonion · 02/10/2022 22:35

Bohemian rhapsody

Derrymum123 · 02/10/2022 22:45

The Birds Hitchcock film. Omg scared the BeJeezus out of me.

Gargoyles after the rain with water pouring from their mouths. Especially on old churches.

When the coffin goes in the ground and people start throwing the dirt on it.
Toads and frogs jumping.
Pigeons flapping and cooing- they still do.

ooherrmissus14 · 02/10/2022 22:48

A few things -
An episode of Quantum Leap that had a goat in it that was the devil
An episode of Bergerac with someone wearing black hooded robes and killing people
Being terrified that if a tap was dripping, it would eventually overflow the sink and flood the house
Ghostwatch
At a friends house when I was way to young to see it, I watched a nightmare on elm street 3 and it had nuns with the head covering that cascaded out to the sides. Had nightmares for ages about those
Skeletor from He Man

I'm sure there were lots more too!!

ooherrmissus14 · 02/10/2022 22:49

Just remembered another one- I saw something on the tv once where the house got hit by lightening causing the people in it to get sucked into their sofa. For years I thought that's what would happen if my house got hit- was terrified!

caringcarer · 02/10/2022 22:50

The dark. DS used to be terrified of the Number Jack's on children's TV.

Oh no! That would cause some serious trauma to a child..

The worst thing looking back was that the house was locally considered haunted by some, purely because it was old, so it was assumed I’d just been listening and believing silly ghost rumours. Except It was acknowledged even then that I wasn’t ever bothered by ghost stories and spent hours exploring every other inch of that house, including cobwebby attics and slept soundly in what was meant to be the creepiest room, it seems bizarre now that nobody ever asked what was scaring me.

Chloefairydust · 02/10/2022 23:00

The monster that lived in my wardrobe 🤣 … Very overactive imagination as a child

Chloefairydust · 02/10/2022 23:01

Also would have nightmares from watching goosebumps lol

Bedsheets4knickers · 02/10/2022 23:14

Twin peaks

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/10/2022 23:16

The pile of clothes on my bedroom chair. I knew it was clothes on a chair but it looked like a monster in the dark.
