My house is 18.5 degrees and I'm COLD!

I cannot afford the heating on yet. I have fluffy socks, pjs, hoody and a throw but my feet and nose are still chilly! It's hardly the arctic but I'm really not looking forward to 'proper' winter if this is how I feel in Autumn!

Same here. It just feels cold tonight. I’m under a blanket but my hands are cold. Im going to put it on for an hour .

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/09/2022 20:33

Same here.

Vest, sweatshirt, fleece, jeans, knee length wool thermal socks, fur lined slippers and blanket.

I’m bloody freezing.

silverclock222 · 27/09/2022 20:34

You need a heated blanket. We're at 16 degrees (Scotland) in an old house with no insulation and we're quite toasty!

Orchidflower1 · 27/09/2022 20:34

Are you sitting in a draught op?

what about making a hot drink?

it’s rubbish isn’t it. I’ve got washing that won’t dry as I can’t put the heating on. The heated airer from last year is too expensive to run ( and it’s a bit pants).

We have started opening the kitchen door and the other internal doors when the cooker is on just to warm through the house.

HandlebarLadyTash · 27/09/2022 20:35

Hot water bottles are good

CambsAlways · 27/09/2022 20:36

Ours is 17.3 I’ve got a dunelm teddy fleece on and I can honestly say I’m ok they are very light but very long and so warm, I have underactive thyroid so I’m always cold but so far so good, I’m not putting heating on yet while I’m doing ok, but wondering how much longer I will hold out 🤣

LeavesOnTrees · 27/09/2022 20:36

You could jog on the spot or do jumping jacks for 5 mins. That'll warm you up.
There are 10–15 minute HIIT videos online which are really good.

AntlerRose · 27/09/2022 20:37

I read an article which seemed to suggest that estrogen made womens metabolism slower than mens which made them feel cold and that the ideal temp for a womsn was 21 degrees or something like that. It didnt mention any sources/research.

Anyway, it got me thinking whether getting up, doing star jumps and making caffeine coffee would warm me up more than a throw.

robertpaulson · 27/09/2022 20:37

15.5 here

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/09/2022 20:38

It's 9C where I live so the heating is on.

MaMisled · 27/09/2022 20:39

I want to knit but my hands are too cold! I'm in PJs, long sleeved top, socks x fleece gilet, cocooned in a blanket, 2 dogs and a cat. Remembering how, in a house with no central heating, my Mum used to put the oven on and leave the door open and turn all 4 rings on to warm the house up, because, the gas fire in the sitting room "cost too much to put on!"

OutDamnedSpot · 27/09/2022 20:39

Yep. Warm shower when I got in. Three pairs of socks, fluffy PJs, huge dressing gown. I feel so COLD though.

15.4 in here apparently. I had no idea that felt so cold.

NutellaEllaElla · 27/09/2022 20:42

Same OP! How am I so cold when it's 18 odd degrees indoors? Not impressed with myself. I'm living in my oodie (had one before it was cool lol) which is doing the trick actually, alongside an electric blanket and a proper fluffy blanket ontop of my duvet. I'm made for more mediterranean climates than this I believe!

TheLongGallery · 27/09/2022 20:42

I have just finished decorating the house downstairs, it is in disarray. I have a Wi-Fi thermostat. I can’t find it to check temp or put it on so I’m in bed. It does feel really cold.

OhTheLeetleHandsAndFeetle · 27/09/2022 20:42

My grandma would say, ‘Get up and move about.’

TheLongGallery · 27/09/2022 20:43

It’s apparently 9 degrees where I live, just checked BBC weather.

Hiw much does a heated blanket cost to use? Is it like a heated underblanket.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/09/2022 20:46

It’s 9 degrees outside near me.

Ive cracked and put it on. My hands were too cold to crochet. I hate getting undressed for bed. It’s so cold.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/09/2022 20:46

I'm freezing. Turned the heating on then DH started teasing me and turning the radiators off. I've been on a team building event in a marquee though so I think that may have made things worse. Got Oodie on and blanket

AdoraBell · 27/09/2022 20:46

Same here. Fleece blanket on my bed, I use a top sheet with duvet so rye fleece blanket is under the duvet. It’s made a huge difference.

Right now I’m wearing two pairs of socks, a T-shirt, wool sweater and a cardigan, with a scarf. Fleece blanket over my legs.

NEVER wear a scarf in bed, risk of strangulation while sleeping.

AlternativelyWired · 27/09/2022 20:47

It's colder here but we have our hot water bottles and are fine.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 27/09/2022 20:47

You need some slippers.

LowbrowVictoriana · 27/09/2022 20:48

I may be talking bollocks (I usually am) but I think when there's a dampness in the air, as there seems to be now, it feels colder, even at the same temperature.
I had my coat on today when walking the dog. It was 16.5 degrees so normally I'd just have a long sleeved top on, but it felt colder today.
When it's drier it doesn't feel so cold (to me).
Maybe.

HairyKitty · 27/09/2022 20:49

Yes def need slippers and maybe a heated throw, much cheaper to run than central heating.

Minimalme · 27/09/2022 20:50

This is so utterly stupid isn't it? People across a wealthy, first world country sitting about feeling cold and dreading Winter.

I have a cold atm which is actually helping because I'm running hotter than normal. I think being cold is such an utterly miserable way to live.

I am going to wait until October but after that I'm having the fucking heating on.
