My house is 18.5 degrees and I'm COLD!

I cannot afford the heating on yet. I have fluffy socks, pjs, hoody and a throw but my feet and nose are still chilly! It's hardly the arctic but I'm really not looking forward to 'proper' winter if this is how I feel in Autumn!

We all agree Putin is the issue🙄

But other governments have protected their citizens.

Whilst we have the Muppets in charge🤪

darisdet · 27/09/2022 21:36

I bought oodies and an electric blanket from Lakeland (three year guarantee and £5.00 off for joining My Lakeland).

If hand and neck are warm I feel it's easier to warm up (it works for outdoor exercise anyway). So fingerless gloves and one of those neck things, like a snood.

I too worry about the hot water bottle bursting. Take care it's not too full or too much air inside I think, and triple check the fastening.

I think it also probably feels worse as we've had such an extended period of heat this year. I miss it 😫

Definitely feel that due to the long hot summer we are feeling the cold more. But.... I much prefer this weather, hot bath, hot drink and electric blanket and I'm in heaven.

bawsy · 27/09/2022 21:38

Heated throws are a god send! I've got mine on right now (also in scotland and I permanently feel the cold.

lisaJN1986 · 27/09/2022 21:39

I'm still having terrifying flashbacks from July, lying starkers on the bed in 38° heat with two fans on me desperately trying to cool off.
I am enjoying this relatively cooler period before real winter arrives and things become miserable again, the house is 16° at the minute and this is just perfect for me.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 27/09/2022 21:40

I'm cold but I've still got a 4.5 tog duvet on the bed so it's my own fault. Have people put their winter duvets on yet?

Reluctantadult · 27/09/2022 21:41

The thing I struggle with most is having a cold nose when I'm in bed. It keeps me awake!

christinarossetti39 · 27/09/2022 21:42

Well, I think it's safe to say that Labour wouldn't have tanked the pound, given a free reign to energy companies and would have least thought about imposing a windfall tax on them. Additionally, there would be fewer ordinary working people living in poverty in the first place.

It's fantasy to say that life would be like this for ordinary working people under Labour (speaking as someone who can't stand the current incarnation of the Labour party).

But, yes getting up and moving about is the best way to get warm quickly. Star jumps, jogging on the spot, vigorous housework, running upstairs if you have them a few times.

Keeping wrists and ankles warm seems to be key. I make wrist warmers out of old jumpers and they make a huge difference.

darisdet · 27/09/2022 21:43

I have the fluffy bedding to put on - sheets and duvet covers. I don't like the pillowcases. I think that does make a difference. I bought a load of it from M and S a year or two ago.

Rainbowshit · 27/09/2022 21:43

15.7 in the room I work in according to hive.

Actually haven't been feeling too cold which I'm surprised about, although I was fully dressed with my dressing gown over and a heated blanket on my lap. 😂

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/09/2022 21:44

17 in my house. I keep putting my fake Oodie on but then have to take it off as I have internal central heating currently 🙄. Who'd have thought menopause would help when you can't afford heat?

darisdet · 27/09/2022 21:45

@christinarossetti39

Yes, wrist warmers are probably a good idea. They usually have thumb holes and can be rolled up when needed.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 27/09/2022 21:45

9c here too ( midlands) we’ve had a blanket for for a couple of nights, nice and toasty though

Hmmmwhatnametochoose · 27/09/2022 21:46

I'm very menopausal and wasn't feeling the cold until I went down with an actual cold. I very quickly found a cooler house quite intolerable.

TheLongGallery · 27/09/2022 21:46

@Blowyourowntrumpet winter duvet on two nights ago, I’m warm though thermostat is still missing as just ate fish and chips in bed that DH bought on the way home from work.

LeakyTapTap · 27/09/2022 21:51

8c here, though it feels colder because I'm on the coast. The wind is down from the north atm so it really feels cold! Its also been raining on and off so everything is damp.

Heading out to check the animals and then I'm having a cuppa and an early night!

My house is 18.5 degrees and I'm COLD!
Ilovetocrochet · 27/09/2022 21:52

I had a panic at 4am when I got up for a wee and discovered that the heating was on! I could barely touch the heated towel rail! I was too sleepy to tackle the complicated wireless thermostat but in the morning I found that the clock on it was set wrong. Easy fix to reset clock and date so took the opportunity to set the heating to 18 C as the default for the winter - I will turn it up when it gets cold and I’m sat around but that suits me as background heat.

This afternoon I was crocheting and watching tv with a cold nose so decided to try my new heated Poncho ( from Lakeland). It was so cosy even though I did not plug it in and my arms were free to crochet! It’s now on the back of the settee ready to use when it gets really cold.

LeakyTapTap · 27/09/2022 21:52

I'm getting old though, cause I'm excited to try my new winter coat! It's a long one and goes right down to my ankles!

PeloFondo · 27/09/2022 21:54

I've got a cat sat on me. Still cold, suspect I need more cats

Mosaic123 · 27/09/2022 21:55

I think we got used to it being hot during the Summer and became acclimatised.

We will get used to it being cold too. ☹️

If you get off a plane in a hot country it seems super hot. After a day or two at that temperature you get used to it

Titsywoo · 27/09/2022 21:56

Mine is 18.5 and I'm very warm (wearing leggings and a hoodie).

Cheeselog · 27/09/2022 21:56

18.5 is an average summer’s day!

PeloFondo · 27/09/2022 21:58

Update, the cat just farted. Reviewing plans of more cats for warmth Envy

lawandgin · 27/09/2022 21:58

I've caved and had the heating on 20.5 degrees from late afternoon for the last 3 days. To be fair, I have a 5 month old and 76 loads of laundry to dry thanks to a holiday (in dorset, during which i did 2 loads of washing in 4 days) and a reflux baby.

MumBoot2022 · 27/09/2022 22:00

Usually quite warm on sofa, covered by a long-haired German Shepherd dog… but she’s gone off to kennels as I’m going away til Sunday. Definitely getting the
winter-weight duvet on this weekend as I’m wearing fleece pjs, socks and fluffy slippers topped off with a hood-up hoodie… just about comfortable!
Grew up in the 70s like this, scared to have the gas fires and immersion heater on… cannot believe I’m scared to have the heating on again, 50 years later😢
