My house is 18.5 degrees and I'm COLD!

I cannot afford the heating on yet. I have fluffy socks, pjs, hoody and a throw but my feet and nose are still chilly! It's hardly the arctic but I'm really not looking forward to 'proper' winter if this is how I feel in Autumn!

Your heating bills would be the same under labour, you do understand what’s caused this and it’s not a Tory policy right?

😂it’s how the Tories have dealt with it that’s the issue.

France have had theirs capped at 4%

napody · 27/09/2022 21:12

Can you get doors put in? Or heavy curtains across? Even if bills hadn't gone up surely it'd cost a fortune to effectively heat a conservatory through winter.

Seven degrees outside here. I’ve put a cat on my feet

This seems like a good way to keep warm… I need some more cats 😁

JanesLittleGirl · 27/09/2022 21:13

Actually, just as annoying was the really hot weather when I was drinking about 5 litres of water every day to replace what was pouring out of my skin, DH and DD were bone dry and loving every minute of it.

AlternativelyWired · 27/09/2022 21:13

15.5 degrees on the ground floor. 8 degrees outside. No heating on but I'm in bed in a vest top with a hot water bottle in the small of my back for pain relief and warmth and feel comfortable. My nose is cold at the tip but I'm fine. I wore a long sleeved top in bed last night and didn't sleep well as I was too warm. I sleep alone so no one to warm the bed except me unless a cat decides they will grace me with their company but she's with dc tonight.

I have a hot water bottle but having spent the last few weeks with a fairly nasty 2nd degree burn being treated after my old one burst ...I'm a bit nervous of it!
Our living room opens into the conservatory with no divider so the room gets cold fast (the thermostat is in the hall which is warmer so I suspect it's about 15 degrees in here!)

My pelvic floor won't take star jumps /anything high impact so a work out might be risky Grin
I think I'm going to have to buy some serious thermals!

Whoops, my quote disappeared!

WonderingWanda · 27/09/2022 21:13

Not too bad, 20° in my house.

Scianel · 27/09/2022 21:14

This is literally my worst fear! I've just bought a new one as I realised mine was five years old and was cheap shite even new - can I ask how old the offending one was?

Scianel · 27/09/2022 21:14

My house was also 18.5 today but I had to stick the heating on, I've buggered my back and can't really move so I'm freezing at present.

Theraffarian · 27/09/2022 21:18

House was 17.5 , felt very cold , actually felt warmer outside, holding out on the heating until October, but decided today would be a good day to pop it all on max for 30 mins to bleed all the radiators , which obviously doesn’t count !

AlwaysLatte · 27/09/2022 21:18

Most of our house is around 18 but we caved in and lit the log burner last night and tonight. Holding out on putting the central heating on though. I want to make the tank of oil we just had delivered, last. £2600 this time (last time just under a year ago was £1800). Putting an extra blanket on the bed tonight.
Have you got an Oodie? They are super toasty!

Dox9 · 27/09/2022 21:19

Op can you get some heavy curtains put up to close off the conservatory at night? I can imagine it being freezing! You could buy normal curtains and add fleece lining yourself for a cheaper version.

QueensEyot · 27/09/2022 21:21

13 degrees here, and I am arguing with the DC about the thermostat. They want the heating on, but I am paying the bills...

HeidiWhole · 27/09/2022 21:21

The electric throws cost barely anything to run - I tried mine with the energy-testing plug thing I bought the other day.

Concerned about washing this winter. Drier broke ages ago and we haven't replaced it but clothes take so long to dry in the cold that they seem to smell musty. Are the heated airers expensive to run?

wonkylegs · 27/09/2022 21:22

Alpaca socks and wrist warmers are amazing - thin but one of the best wools for trapping heat. They are not cheap but I only have one pair of each, they don't need washing that often but do need hand washing.
I have Reynard's and struggle to get warm however these are game changers
Once your hands and feet are warm it's much easier to keep the rest of you warm.

Sadik · 27/09/2022 21:24

Well, presumably Labour might give any money going to poor people not rich ones? (And I say that as someone who will pay less as a result of the tax cuts.)

Not that I have much faith in them either, but they can't be worse, surely!

bluetongue · 27/09/2022 21:27

I’m surprised you all feel so cold at 18 degrees. This might explain why everywhere feels so overheated when I visit the UK! (I live in Australia).

537ena · 27/09/2022 21:27

We had the heating on for a few days now, don't want the baby getting cold.
Currently 23 degrees in the house but I'm sat on top of the radiator because the house still hasn't got that toasty feel. I think the wind is getting in.

MadisonAvenue · 27/09/2022 21:28

I’m sitting here with a hot water bottle.
My son mentioned earlier that it’s cold enough to put the heating on. I’m just hoping he doesn’t do it when I’m not around.

Foldingchair · 27/09/2022 21:29

17 here. We're mid decorating, so have no curtains up and radiators off the walls.
Dh doesn't feel the cold, so doesn't get the hurry to get everything finished. I'm freezing, even though layered up. I don't want to live another 30 or so years feeling like this for 6 months a year. It's fucking miserable.
Getting changed out of work clothes: cold.
Moving from room to room: cold.
Going up to bed: cold.
Going to use a hot water bottle tonight.

HeidiWhole · 27/09/2022 21:31

I think it also probably feels worse as we've had such an extended period of heat this year. I miss it 😫

Talia99 · 27/09/2022 21:31

It’s 8 degrees outside and according to the thermostat, 19 inside. However, the thermostat is in the warmest room in the house so I think it’s colder in the living room.

I’ve been on the sofa wearing an oodie and also under a thermal (but not electric) blanket and I’ve been warm enough. I’ve got thick blackout curtains so I think that helps.

bevelino · 27/09/2022 21:32

I have an electric blanket and it is bliss.

Really. I thought putin was the issue, him and the rebound from covid and depleted tanks. But you keep on.

midgetastic · 27/09/2022 21:36

There is the cause

And there is the government response

The cause would remain
But the government could have acted differently and reduced the impact significantly
