How often do you wash school tights?

Do you wash after one wear? I'm talking about school tights for girls under 6.

Underwear? I always wear underwear underneath tights!!!

Yes but I am sure the crotch area still gets a bit whiffy at times. Children are not the best at wiping.

Hannah1011 · 28/09/2022 10:01

This school tells you to wash your tights after every time you wear them. I don't think a school should be telling us how often you have to wear your tights. www.hallfieldschool.co.uk/

Every wear (unless they're going to the bin with a massive hole in the knee). If there's not food or mud on them I'd be VERY surprised.

when my older DSes were in primary school, I used to marvel at people who could manage to buy less than 5 of everything. Their jumpers and trousers were always filthy at the end of the day.

But, then again, some people seem to have children that just stay much cleaner than mine ever have. I see people
who can put white clothing on their children and they still look pristine hours later. I put anything on my children, and they don’t even look pristine at the point of dressing. After that it’s all downhill. If they make it out the house without toothpaste on their clothes, we are doing amazingly.

Daily for tights, more for the bagginess and the dog hair, tbh (although mine will sleep in hers and I suspect sometimes rewears them as well. I CBA to get worked up about it. She’s almost thirteen and can argue about any bloody thing going, and I don’t care enough to go into battle. Kudos to parents with more fortitude than I)

@Sapphiretrueblue I've got a baby and my machine has a smaller drum (15 mins is the quickest wash). I'm trying to do it every other day at the moment. But I will try and see if i can hold it off longer. I just hate clothes piling up.

every 5-6 days.

NevieSticks · 13/11/2023 14:20

OMG 😫

SpaceRaiders · 13/11/2023 14:22

After each wear surely or its just mine who have visibly sweaty feet all year round.

one12 · 13/11/2023 15:01

They don't have sweaty feet, and I try to keep laundry to a minimum

JuliaGoolias · 13/11/2023 15:06

I'm a MN slattern but do change tights, knickers, socks, and polo shirt every day. Pinafore and cardigan can go two days if not dirty to the eye/nose.

one12 · 13/11/2023 15:10

That must generate a lot of washing?

FrenchandSaunders · 13/11/2023 15:12

@Hannah1011 where does it say that!

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:21

I notice the main view is to wash after each wear, but I am just doing the same as when I was young and it means a lot less laundry

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/11/2023 18:27

I'm a slattern by MN standards, but I class tights as underwear and would wash them every wear.

How are tights underwear? Well, unless you just wear a top with them (!), then they are worn under your clothes - hence underwear. No, they don't go on naked bottoms, but they are tight and in close proximity with them and can get a bit smelly.

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:31

And if they smell they get washed, same as vest, pants and socks. If anything is dirty or smelly they get washed but if not they wear again

LittleBearPad · 13/11/2023 18:34

Like socks they get washed after each wear.

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:36

We don't wash socks after each wear. We wash them when they get smelly

benefitsterrified · 13/11/2023 18:36

Surely you'd wash them like you wash socks? So every day?

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:38

We wash socks when they are dirty?

benefitsterrified · 13/11/2023 18:39

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:38

We wash socks when they are dirty?

And feet sweat and socks get dirty after one wear?

Chickpea17 · 13/11/2023 18:40

After ever wear

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:41

Not here, if they don't smell can be worn again? Saves on washing

Wowzel · 13/11/2023 18:42

I'm a bit of a slattern, but tights get washed after every wear

benefitsterrified · 13/11/2023 18:42

one12 · 13/11/2023 18:41

That's gross. As is putting dirty underwear on children. They need clean socks and pants every day.

SpinningFloppa · 13/11/2023 18:43

Daily. Without fail.
