How often do you wash school tights?

Do you wash after one wear? I'm talking about school tights for girls under 6.

Tights are basically really long socks that meet at the top.

They’re not leggings with feet.

So they get worn once before washing.

Thegreenballoon · 26/09/2022 22:49

Clean pants, socks or tights and polo shirt every day. I can sometimes get a second day out of pinafore or cardigan, but it’s rare, my child is a mud and lunch magnet.

I’m not one of those people who washes towels after every use or changes my sheets every three days, I’m really quite scuzzy, but even I am absolutely grossed out at the idea of my child wearing the equivalent of socks more than once before washing. If I was looking to economise on laundry then tights is not where I would start…

SudocremOnEverything · 26/09/2022 22:51

I think that if you’re considering a sniff test to tell whether something is dirty, you should not bother. The fact you’re thinking of sniffing it means you know it’s dirty but wonder if you might get away without anyone noticing.

Washing socks and pants after one wear isn't specific to competitive mumsnetters, it's what most people do

GrowOneStrawberry · 27/09/2022 00:43

Once but then again dd seems to make every item filthy at school, polo, skirt, cardigan.
So full uniform daily. Altho once i got 2 wears out of a cardigan!

Hellohellohello8 · 27/09/2022 00:50

Yes I treat them like socks - every wear. But sometimes they get two wears (like socks!) if I’m don’t have any clean!

RawChickenTray · 27/09/2022 00:59

Er Daily.
Would you expect a boy to wear a pair of socks for a second day?

Uptowntwirl · 27/09/2022 01:08

This obsession with things like washing everything after one wear is why the planet is fucked.

Does this mean you wear socks and tights more than once before washing?

UnderCoverFieldAgent · 27/09/2022 05:22

I don’t have a daughter but I’d wash them daily, just like I did with DS’s socks. My mum always used to wash my tights daily.

Sparklingbrook · 27/09/2022 05:33

Why do you ask @heartbroken22 ? Oddly specific age range.,

PinkSyCo · 27/09/2022 05:43

Daily, just like any other pair of tights.

babyyodaxmas · 27/09/2022 07:16

Don't tights come in packs of 3 ? I guess I and Dd do 1 or 2 days from a pair of tights. Although there would normally be one day when she would wear games kit.

Bunnycat101 · 27/09/2022 07:38

Daily. They also seem to spend a lot of time with shoes off in infants at my daughter’s school judging by the state of her socks/tights. There is no way we could re-where.

Pants often come in packs of 3 or 5. That doesn’t mean a single pack will last you all week.

Nameless3 · 27/09/2022 08:05

I sometimes wear socks two days in a row.

heartbroken22 · 28/09/2022 09:29

I only asked because I couldn't remember what I did last year. My daughter could get 2 days in a row SOME days last year but this year she's getting sweaty feet so it's after every wear( so straight in the washing machine everyday). The constant washing is wearing her Asda tights out a lot more whereas the Lidl/Aldi ones lasted a lot longer.

Tights were washed everyday, exactly the same as socks.

Sapphiretrueblue · 28/09/2022 09:35

The Next ones we buy in the 3 pack last really well too.

Do people stick their washing machines on every day for tights?! I try and minimise how much the machine goes on and just do bigger loads. I do the whole uniform at the end of the week. Got enough tights, shirts, dress etc for clean on daily.

I don't tend to wear tights against my bare vulva and arse.

SoupDragon · 28/09/2022 09:38

DD is a teen now. Hers don't tend to make it to the laundry basket as they re laddered before they need washing. They seem to be more of a disposable item. 🙄

no. But clothes that have been against bare feet aren’t lovely either.

It’s not like a cardigan or something.

The point was that the size of the pack has nothing to do with how many you’ll need to last a week.

randomsabreuse · 28/09/2022 09:48

Every wear (unless they're going to the bin with a massive hole in the knee). If there's not food or mud on them I'd be VERY surprised.

I was assuming that the people who say they wash things ‘daily’ actually mean they wear once, put in the laundry and wash it all at some point in the week.

But then I realised that this is MN. They might actually mean they wash things daily.

But those people probably have several full loads daily. They’ve got single use towels and bed sheets to wash every day, as well as pyjamas, indoor clothes and ‘outdoor’ clothes and presumably loads of other stuff i haven’t even considered to wash every day.

I don’t think the people who view tights and socks as one wear before they need a wash are necessarily in that category though. I certainly am not.

Wanda616 · 28/09/2022 09:54

I'm a real laundry shattered by MN standards, and generally DD only uses two sets of uniform in a week (this week she seems to be throwing yoghurt over herself for fun), but yes tights get washed every day. My kids have sweaty little feet.
