How often do you wash school tights?

Do you wash after one wear? I'm talking about school tights for girls under 6.

How are tights, underwear?

I'm not sure I'd call them underwear but I suppose they are in the same category as socks which in our house live with tights, pants and vests in underwear drawer. If you wear them without pants I suppose they'd be under wear too?

MugginsOverEre · 26/09/2022 21:41

Hate to burst your bubble here @Sniffypete but socks are underwear.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 26/09/2022 21:43

Wow, the replies here… Certainly more than once. I go by cleanliness. Likewise for shirts, jumpers etc. Pants daily.

Hosiery is a non-negotiable fresh every day and I'm not a super clean freak with clothes. I'll wear trousers, sweaters and other outer garments several times but I wouldn't wear socks or tights twice and I have remarkably arid trotters.

I'm kind of shocked to read this post. Do you wear same socks twice? If not, you don't wear same tights twice.

Yeah it's kinda grossing me out. Maybe I'm weird to change my socks every single day. Wait til they find out about brushing teeth...

Same for socks? You take them off at night and put them to one side to wear again the next day? At what point do you know they're unclean?

ParentallyUnprepared · 26/09/2022 21:51

Well, this has been eye-opening.

Sprogonthetyne · 26/09/2022 21:51

I'd change daily, but I also change polo's & trousers daily. I'd rather just get 5 sets them have to locate which corner of the bedroom floor cloths have been left in, and then have a panic when something I'd planned to get 2 uses out of has beans split down it. Whole weeks uniform in the wash together on a weekend, and your good for a week.

Pixiedust1234 · 26/09/2022 21:51

Tights, socks and knickers are all worn once.

SillyBub · 26/09/2022 21:53

This thread is enlightening. I can be a bit of a slattern when it comes to washing and certainly am by Mumsnet standards, but tights, the same as underpants and socks, get washed after one wear. The rest of their uniform can and often is, worn for the whole week.

SellFridges · 26/09/2022 21:57

Mine have fresh uniform every day. Always have done. It suits my washing schedule and inability to keep track of where things are thrown off around the house. When they were tiny the clothes were usually dirty in some way, and now they’re older they often smell!

I can just about live with skirts or trousers been worn more than once, which is similar for myself.

gogohmm · 26/09/2022 21:58

Just like socks, every wear

BaggieMaggie · 26/09/2022 22:07

Everyday. School tights usually come in packs of 5 so why wouldn’t you put on a fresh pair every day? I also put on a fresh uniform daily too. I only go so far as to not wash their jumpers/cardigans everyday because they usually just wear it to school and take it off as soon as they get in. Possibly stretch to not washing skirts/trousers but only in an emergency.

monkeyupsidedown · 26/09/2022 22:11

I chuck it in the laundry basket after about 4 hours. But that's because I have a toddler that plays with mud, sand, and anything that is messy so I put her in clean clothes for her nap.

For myself like socks, so end of the day it goes in the laundry basket.

LordMooey · 26/09/2022 22:12

Socks/tights/knickers/shirts/summer dresses get changed every day.
Skirts and cardigans get worn until they are visibly dirty or it's the weekend, whichever comes first.

Rosewaterblossom · 26/09/2022 22:19

Tights, even on a child, get sweaty feet. Even with underwear the upper tights will have and absorb any sweat/going to the toilet aftermath. Not washing them after use is rank.

eurochick · 26/09/2022 22:27

Daily. I assumed everyone did. Socks, pants, tights all get washed daily.

RoseMartha · 26/09/2022 22:31

After one wear

allboysherebutme · 26/09/2022 22:38

5 pairs of tights one for every school day, all washed after one wear. Same with all clothing, except pjs two wears. X

ADialgaAteMyDog · 26/09/2022 22:41

After every wear for me, but my mum seems to think they can be worn again. No thank you! Dresses and cardigans until they are dirty though.
DC in reception comes home filthy so that's a fresh set every day, though I only have two pairs of the push down trousers. Argh.

Ship · 26/09/2022 22:41

Daily like socks. Feet get sweaty!

MummyGummy · 26/09/2022 22:43

zippalippa · 26/09/2022 21:25

The average Mumsnetter washes everything in a vat of bleach six times, this is a social competition arena after all.

The average non Mumsnetter can't be arsed and probably does the sniff test. Some kids have sweaty feet and some have super dry feet so your mileage may vary but mine would usually get about 2 or 3 wears out of them.

Do you do the sniff test on your own socks and underwear or is it only your kids stuff you can’t be bothered to wash?

SpinningFloppa · 26/09/2022 22:44

Daily, can’t understand why people wouldn’t, very disgusting not to, I wash all uniform after each wear apart from cardigans

SudocremOnEverything · 26/09/2022 22:45

Is this even a question? Tights, like socks and pants are a single wear before washing item.

And I’m really lax with laundry by MN standards.

MarigoldPetals · 26/09/2022 22:46

Special plea from a TA - please don’t send your child in tights on PE day if they can’t take them on and off themselves. Sweaty feet tights are not the nicest for us TAs to have to put back on 15 odd children 😆
