Anyone fancy a 90s nostalgia thread?

I just thought it might be a little lighthearted fun 😁

I had a completely random theme tune stuck in my head all afternoon and decided to do a bit of Googling as I had a strong feeling it was from a kids show I used to watch and that sent me down a whole rabbit hole of much loved kids shows toys and even ads from my childhood!

A mixed bag of tv shows like Oakie Doke, Noah's island, super ted, animals of farthing wood, art attack, zzzap, the demon headmaster, the queens nose (telly addicted childhood🙋🏽‍♀️ 🤣) toys like polly pockets and my fav ads..the wide mouthed frog and the Milky Way 'red car and the blue car had a race'

What are your treasured 90s memories? Anyone fancy reminiscing?

Bootcut jeans(loved them)
Wedge sandals
Wonderbra's
Great singalong pop songs that you don't get any more
Bacardi Breezers
Baked bean pizzas!

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/09/2022 21:12

Oakie Doke 🥺 it’s no exaggeration to say the theme tune makes me cry!

I also loved:
Come Outside
SmArt
Queen’s Nose
My Parents are Aliens (might have been early 00s)
Mizz/Shout magazines (especially Cathy’s problem page)
Spice Girls
Steps
Bang on the Door
Bubblegum Club
Angel Delight for pudding
Top of the Pops
Watching Dec try to get off with Cat Deeley in the flat
Those massive chunky school shoes with rubber heels
Inflatable furniture
Recording my own voice singing on a tape recorder (did anyone else do this?!)

Misspacorabanne · 26/09/2022 21:12

Also the inflatable chairs, and inflatable bright coloured back packs (always wanted an inflatable chair for my bedroom!)
Mr blobby,
Lava lamps,
Glitter jelly shoes with a slight heel, I remember having a pair, they were bright orange with silver glitter on them, I loved them, but they used to frustrate me because gravel was always getting stuck under them, in the heel! I used to sit and pick the stones our of them! 😆

I never felt the need to make an insta account.. I think you've given me a reason 😁 as if I don't waste enough time mooching about Mumsnet 😆

I remember eating tons of sugary crap like pop tarts and sunny delight and still staying thin!

OOh I've just had a memory of when DH and I first moved in together and we went on a local mission the the corner shop to find Sunny Delight. It was a new thing and we thought it was so exotic and tasty. 😂Shows you how young, impressionable and naiive we were. It was just full of chemicals.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/09/2022 21:23

Loving the thread but see the 90s from a different perspective.

Got married in 91 and dc in 94 and 97. Early 90s was about Scully and Moulder and George Dors, what are the scores "Iranu and Ivavu". Notforgetting the flotation of Man United.

After that it was a blur of Auntie Mabel, Rosie and Jim, Why Bird, Barney and Thomas the Tank Engine.

Leggings, long woolly jumpers, oversized t shirts, fur trimmed ankle boots, trouser shoes and the dying days of Laura Ashley.

Orange walls and navy curtains with moons and stars. And fleece arrived. There was no fleece before about 1996/7.

In the 80s I was up all night if I wanted to be Grin

The 90s were brilliant
My memories are
Blind date ,gladiators and noels house party on a Saturday .
Then Sunday night watching heartbeat dreading school the next day.
There was a show called fun house I loved.
Cduk and smtv...wasn't a fan of live and kicking.
Smash hits magazine and taping the top 40 on my cassette from the radio.
Alien eggs that hatched.
Tamagotchi
10p taz bars
Polly pockets
I miss the 90s
Oh and rugrats

Greenstar22 · 26/09/2022 21:25

Hooch and diamond white!
Trainspotting film
Oasis, Blur and pulp
Exclamation spray
Jean Paul gautier perfume
Sun in and harmony hair dye
Wella colour mousse

redpinklife · 26/09/2022 21:25

Oh and bernards watch

FiveMins · 26/09/2022 21:28

I loved the 90s. I was 15 in 1990 so:
Convoys to raves in the middle of fields
Smoking dope at lunch time.
Es and dancing all night
A sense of everyone coming together.
Kill the Bill protests in London. Being kettled.
Direct action.
Drinking pints at lunchtime then going back to work
House, drum and bass, big reggae parties.
Euro 96 and reclaiming the flag (for a bit). Wags and football ruling the front and back of newspapers
The fucking hysteria over Princess Di (by the same awful newspapers that chased her to death and made her life hell).
The tabloids making and breaking celebrities.
The joy of Labour actually getting in power and making things a bit better.
The excitement of the millennium and the potential end of the world feeling.
Open homophobia, misogyny and racism. Being called frigid or a slag, not much in-between.
Being wolf whistled at fucking loads.
Wearing combat trousers and crop tops, and dresses and trainers (so we could dance, dance, dance).
Being able to work as a waitress, pay rent and bills, go out all the time AND save enough to go traveling around India, Mexico, Europe.
A sense of optimism that is definitely lost.

Rosewaterblossom · 26/09/2022 21:29

Tv throughout the 90s was great!

Shows in morning of holidays:
Saved by the Bell
Saved by the Bell the new class and also the college years!
Sister sister
California dreams
Kenan and Kel
The secret life of Alex Mack!
Live and Kicking!

Later shows..
ER
Baywatch
God's Gift
Blind date
Gladiators
Noels house party!
You rang my lord
Darling buds of May
Sex and the City
Ally Mcbeal
Band of Gold
Bad Girls

Comedy:
Ab Fab
Men behaving badly
Keeping up appearances
Friends
One foot in the grave
Only fools and horses
Frasier
Will and grace

I bit of a random mix there but were all great!

EugeneLevysEyebrow · 26/09/2022 21:30

Just Seventeen magazine, and the agony aunt pages where people would write in with a problem. A bit like an embryonic version of AIBU.

KylieCharlene · 26/09/2022 21:30

I remember spraying my hair with sun-in and wearing Monsoon perfume (blue bottle). I wore satin hipster skirts with a metal belt attached and lime or orange satin shirts. Always had a mini backpack with my Marlboro lights in and a pack of Spangles. Loved a Castaway.
Loved Just Seventeen and Boots Natural Collection bath stuff .
Wore black cord necklaces with ying-yang symbol and my hair was crunchy with salon selectives mousse.
Loved watching Top of the Pops and remember watching Men Behaving Badly on a Thursday night.

Deceptivelydelicious · 26/09/2022 21:34

-Palladium shoes with the red tag on the tongue.
-Green flash
-bodies (those annoying leotard type things with poppers under your bits)
-Calvin Klein grey sweatshirts
-Clothes from Kookai, Jane Norman, Ton Sur Ton, Chipie, Bay Trading
-Capital FM roadshows
-Forever friends posters from Athena
-scrunchies

I loved the 90s when life was so much more simple!

PatSharpsMullet · 26/09/2022 21:35

I desperately wanted Bernard's watch! The things I'd have done 😏

The black cord necklaces were a staple in my wardrobe!! I had such a big collection.

Me too, it was wasted on him, doing all those good deeds!

I'm loving hearing the different perspectives depending on age and how they are all filled with such happy memories despite being so different!

I was born in 1980 so the nineties were the peak of my adolescence!

Early nineties - Body Shop lip gloss, bath balls etc, Head bags, CBBC and all it’s programmes like Round the Twist, Joe Bloggs jeans, the logo from Sprite - what was it called?? - Kicker shoes with that massive bottle top thing attached to laces. Just beginning to clock what Ebeneezer Goode was about, heading the Prodigy/ Phatt of the Land for the first time. Reading R. L Stine and Point Horror. Changing from the innocence of a pre teen to seeing/ hearing/ learning about a LOT of new stuff.

Mid 90’s - ice skating with my friends to house music, trance and house, Set you Free coming out and the wonder of it being made in someone’s bedroom, boy racer boyfriend, bootlegged Fantazia tapes, graduating to the more mature Christopher Pike books and getting all the teen stuff, pedal pushers, Lycra dresses that had white piping - always white piping! - clogs, silver eye liner.

1998 onwards - getting into trip hop in a big way, smoking weed, pills, funk and hip hop, going to alternative music nights, massive baggy cargo pants with tiny hanker chief tops that tied at the back with massive trainers, Yo Mo Fo nights living up north, moving to London.

So much varied fashion, looks, music, vibes, sounds, people. 90’s was also a seminal time in film as well. It truly was a majestic decade.

Was the logo the Fido Dido guy? 😂

Edamamebeans · 26/09/2022 22:13

I've just remembered another one. Does anyone remember Pilot - the clothes store? Blush
