Anyone fancy a 90s nostalgia thread?

I just thought it might be a little lighthearted fun 😁

I had a completely random theme tune stuck in my head all afternoon and decided to do a bit of Googling as I had a strong feeling it was from a kids show I used to watch and that sent me down a whole rabbit hole of much loved kids shows toys and even ads from my childhood!

A mixed bag of tv shows like Oakie Doke, Noah's island, super ted, animals of farthing wood, art attack, zzzap, the demon headmaster, the queens nose (telly addicted childhood🙋🏽‍♀️ 🤣) toys like polly pockets and my fav ads..the wide mouthed frog and the Milky Way 'red car and the blue car had a race'

What are your treasured 90s memories? Anyone fancy reminiscing?

Yes that was the queens nose.. I just googled the cast as I had always thought Louise Redknap played the older sister, but I was wrong!

The show you're talking about sounds familiar to me, it wasn't 'the wild house' was it?

Yes it was The Wild House, I loved that show. The Wild Thornberries was a cartoon wasn't it? I liked that as well. Kids TV uses to be so much better than it is now. Not to mention The Gladiators and Noels House Party.

blockbusters on a Friday night
Woolies pick and mix
C&A
round the twist
can’t remember if it was 90’s or 00’s but loved watching SMtV as a teenager

Ein · 26/09/2022 20:10

Britain was cool! We had Britpop, Tony Blair, Princess Di etc and it was $1.7 to £1 so holidays were cheap as chips.

We also had the respect of the world as one of the most powerful and civilised countries, which is hard to imagine now.

Fundamentallyfuckeed · 26/09/2022 20:10

Oh and a pair of poppers
trouser skirts
kangol pencil cases

MovinOnUp · 26/09/2022 20:13

Does anyone remember the wide toothed pink comb that was free with more magazine?

EVERY girl I knew had that and I managed to keep hold of mine until the early noughties.

Ringmaster27 · 26/09/2022 20:13

Going to see Santa at a local garden centre and being gifted a set of Spice Girls linen hankies 😂🙌🏻 Each on was a different colour and had a picture of a different band member on each - my sister and I would bicker over the purple Posh Spice one 😂
Having my first proper ugly cry over a film at 5 years old, watching The Land Before Time for the first time 🥺

Shinyhappyperson22 · 26/09/2022 20:14

I started high school in 1990 so I was a teen through the decade really. We didn’t have much money but I have great memories!

New friends in high school and new freedoms to go shopping on the bus to local towns, swimming baths.
Trips to Theme parks like Blackpool, Alton Towers ( once a year I mean)
Dance music, boy bands through to my love of indie/britpop and rock.
Leo Dicaprio, Jonny Depp, Brad Pitt.
Turning 17/18 going to indie clubs, gigs, festivals.
Tv:like Byker Grove, Grange Hill, neighbours and home and away.
Holidays to Ibiza and Tenerife.

Misspacorabanne · 26/09/2022 20:14

Loved the 90s!!

Push pops,
Anybody remember the spice girl crisps??
Adidas poppers,
Bright coloured sweater shop jumpers,
10p Taz bars,
Mars delight and echo bars!!
Mizz/shout magazine,
The chuckle brothers,
Tots tv and brum!
Loved fun house,
Goosebumps books.

Ringmaster27 · 26/09/2022 20:15

Oh, and faux snake skin jackets 😂
Dsis and I had matching hot pink ones that we would pair with those hideously clingy flared trousers with a built in ra-ra skirt 🤢😂

I was born in 1980 so the nineties were the peak of my adolescence!

Early nineties - Body Shop lip gloss, bath balls etc, Head bags, CBBC and all it’s programmes like Round the Twist, Joe Bloggs jeans, the logo from Sprite - what was it called?? - Kicker shoes with that massive bottle top thing attached to laces. Just beginning to clock what Ebeneezer Goode was about, heading the Prodigy/ Phatt of the Land for the first time. Reading R. L Stine and Point Horror. Changing from the innocence of a pre teen to seeing/ hearing/ learning about a LOT of new stuff.

Mid 90’s - ice skating with my friends to house music, trance and house, Set you Free coming out and the wonder of it being made in someone’s bedroom, boy racer boyfriend, bootlegged Fantazia tapes, graduating to the more mature Christopher Pike books and getting all the teen stuff, pedal pushers, Lycra dresses that had white piping - always white piping! - clogs, silver eye liner.

1998 onwards - getting into trip hop in a big way, smoking weed, pills, funk and hip hop, going to alternative music nights, massive baggy cargo pants with tiny hanker chief tops that tied at the back with massive trainers, Yo Mo Fo nights living up north, moving to London.

So much varied fashion, looks, music, vibes, sounds, people. 90’s was also a seminal time in film as well. It truly was a majestic decade.

Aw thanks for joining me on my trip down memory lane 🤣 I'm loving it so much, reading everyone's memories!

Omg is round the twist the one where they lived in the lighthouse? I remember that too!

SewhereIam · 26/09/2022 20:21

I remember

Chunky Kickers and Pod high heeled shoes (usually teamed with adidas trousers)
CAT record bags for school (with a Jane Norman bag for PE)
Shag bands (black rubber bracelets)
Boyzone, 911, East 17 and the Backstreet Boys being the pinnacle of handsome.
Hiding More! Magazine under my bed because Mum thought it wss too riské.
Gladiators, Blind Date and Man o Man on a Saturday night.
Miss Selfridge, Tammy Girl and Dolcis.

MidnightMeltdown · 26/09/2022 20:21

Great toys in the 90s too:

Keepers, Trolls, Cupcake dolls, Puppy in my pocket

Hellocatshome · 26/09/2022 20:21

"Have you ever ever felt like this? When strange things happen are you going round the twist?"

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 26/09/2022 20:23

What was that trainer brand. Mid to late 90s. If you were into anything remotely like hip hop or just anything remotely non pop. Kind of chunky. I keep wanting to say Oxygen but that’s not right…

yorkshireteaparty · 26/09/2022 20:23

Jeffrey Rogers.. I had so many tips from there and once got stuck in a dress in the fitting rooms

yorkshireteaparty · 26/09/2022 20:24

Blossomandbee · 26/09/2022 20:24

I was a child/ teen of the 90's. For me it was all about:
Gladiators on a Saturday night.
Byker Grove or Grange Hill after school.
Pogs in Walkers crisps
Tribe, So? Anais Anais, Lou Lou perfume
Impulse vanilla body sprays
Hair mascara
Bright glittery nail varnish
Those cheap black cord necklaces with different pendants on.
Combat trousers
Sweater Shop
Kickers school shoes

OceanbreezeSun · 26/09/2022 20:24

Rimmel Paradise Lipstick - the perfect nude, brown shade

Wearing my hair in a tight ponytail for school with 2 skinny bits hanging down at the front

Glitter jelly sandals

Reading my older sisters teen magazines - I remember being fascinated reading ‘position of the fortnight’ in More magazine!

Watching Heartbreak High, Hang Time, Round The Twist & The Secret World Of Alex Mac religiously.

Going to Blockbuster video on a Fri night was a treat. As was going out to restaurants. My childhood best mate and I used to go to Pizza Hut every month - her parents were well off and her mum used to take us there for tea, followed by a trip to the cinema. Pizza Hut really was great back in the day!

IsABajan · 26/09/2022 20:25

Bliss and Sugar magazines. I used to buy those every month with my pocket money

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 26/09/2022 20:27

Oh god I found them. Acupuncture trainers. God I loved mine. www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/437552920034605649/

My 'youth' firmly fitted into the 90s - I was 12 at the start and 22 at the end.

Despite an unpromising time at school at the start, I'd say I had a great time of it. I'd found my crowd by the mid 90s, my friends and I were really into the London indie scene at its peak, then also got into dance music and did manage to attend some clubs that are now considered fairly legendary.

Wore lots of second hand from Camden - old baggy cord trousers, tiny ts, velvet 70s jackets, DMs and round 'Lennon' sunglasses, and pendants on a short leather thong around your neck. Bad bleach job and lots of sparkly hairclips, and glitter everywhere!
