Can anyone identify the creature leaving this poo on my lawn?

big patch of it, more appearing every night. Live quite rurally with woods near. Each poo is about 5cm diameter.

would like to know as it’s literally right in the middle of the fecking lawn and now becoming an issue to mow etc!!

Place marking as got no idea but want to know if the camera catches anything

Spanielsarepainless · 26/09/2022 13:40

Another vote for woodpigeons. If a tree overhangs this part of your lawn, they are emptying their bowels overnight.

BadNomad · 26/09/2022 13:41

Looks like that poop, no? Soft and brown with creamy white urates 😅

It looks like a mammal to me as some definitely look more curled out than plopped from a bird. It's not cat unless it's got serious bowel trouble.
Weird how it goes in one spot too.

WingBingo · 26/09/2022 13:45

Although my chickens do curly poos like that. Just not that colour

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 26/09/2022 14:00

Badger? Their poo varies but is very smelly. They are creatures of habit. (If it is a badger... you won't have hedgehogs for long.)

marmaladepop · 26/09/2022 14:35

Another vote for Woodpigeon. I'm just about to drive my car to get cleaned-and it gets a regular splattering. Very annoying and expensive to keep on top of and yes, they can easily do 40 poos together!

ItsRainingPens · 26/09/2022 14:38

Send a photo to Chris Packam/Packham. He really knows his stuff

LadyFromage · 26/09/2022 14:40

My money is on pigeons but really I am just placemarking for the trail camera reveal...

sophs29 · 26/09/2022 14:45

We have the same happening round the corner in our garden, we have a family of pigeons and they all poo in the same spot on the patio every day! It's awful! Looks exactly the same as your photos though!

Icannoteven · 26/09/2022 14:47

This looks a lot like the poo my ferrets used to do. There is rather a lot of it though! Too much for one escaped ferret. Maybe mink, stoat or weasel?

Mykittensmittens · 26/09/2022 17:25

Okay camera arriving tomorrow. I am
not tech savvy but will hope it’s easy and charge some batteries tonight in the hope it’s easy.

more poo. Poo was not there at breakfast time
but I had to go to a meeting at 7am. Badly painted finger and acorn for scale. I’ve noticed that the poo is parallel with a hedgehog ‘door’ between us and next door.

as for asking posters - no overhanging trees

And I saw a stoat a long time back as I said upthread but not for months. Tiny thing and runs like a rocket. Early spring I think? Haven’t seen it since. Will have to devise holding contraption for poo-camera. Assuming DSs goal post could do the job moved closer!

Canany1cme · 26/09/2022 17:32

Looks like pigeon poo to me.

QuebecBagnet · 26/09/2022 17:37

Mykittensmittens · 26/09/2022 13:11

I’m up working at 6 and the only birds I see on the lawn are magpies under the bird table (not close to this), a crow family who chase the magpies and then small song birds.

I’ve now reminded myself in the spring i twice saw a stoat. Never seen it since and it was flying like a rocket down the garden. Could it be that?

I thought stoat. Mammals are more likely to have a “toilet area”. Birds wouldn’t unless it was above a favoured perch or roost.

QuebecBagnet · 26/09/2022 17:38

Hedgehog poo is darker and in little logs rather than splats. I used to rehab/rescue hedgehogs and it doesn’t look like hedgehog poo.

StarDog · 26/09/2022 17:48

No advice but awaiting the reveal with anticipation OP!!

TrainspottingWelsh · 26/09/2022 21:29

I know you’ve said it doesn’t look like pigeon poo and you’ve had that elsewhere, but wood pigeon poo is different to that.

ForestofD · 25/09/2022 14:27

We put a trail camera in to see what was pooing in our garden and eating our apples. Turns out we were being visited by a Mother and Baby Badger.........

Where dod you get your trail camera?

ShirtingForkBalls · 26/09/2022 21:35

Why is this thread so interesting?!

Have you checked a poo guide like this op?

ShirtingForkBalls · 26/09/2022 21:38

Looks like Wolverine poo to me 💩💩💩

Wauden · 26/09/2022 21:54

Watching Poo Gate with interest and wondering how it will bottom out.

Mykittensmittens · 26/09/2022 22:11

@ShirtingForkBalls yes far too many

and yes @TrainspottingWelsh I may be typing pigeon but I do mean wood pigeons.

if we go to all this trouble and capture nothing, I’m going to be gutted!

@Mykittensmittens

Fair enough, it was only because unless you’re familiar with both most people assume they’d be similar. Now I’m even more intrigued by the identity of the mystery shitter!

KittyCatsby · 26/09/2022 22:46

Another who thinks pheasant.
