Well who cried whilst watching the funeral?

Was watching the funeral with DH and DC in our living room.

I’ve found the Queen’s death quite saddening and I have shed a few tears over the last 11 days, but every time I’m at a funeral the music / hymns always set me off.

Felt quite emotional. What a woman she was!

And you don’t need to tell me how silly I am, DH has told me plenty of times that I ‘shouldn’t be crying about someone I never knew’ 🙄

I expected to cry but didn’t. I think the service very much reflected the personality and interests of the queen ie. It was lacking in drama and emotion, very English and quite prosaic. The processions have been magnificent and I found the pipers and trumpeters very moving but overall the music and readings were not tear jerking. Prince Phillip’s was better in this respect, there was lots of extremely moving, and interesting, music.

Yes I teared up. Just when they brought the coffin out. Seeing the crown.
I can't think of the Queen without thinking of my late parents, especially my mother who was a year older and was in the crowds for her coronation. I am mourning that whole generation, not just this one woman.
Religious funerals are never very personal. But you just had to look at the solemn military and family and the mourners. She was held in such revere by so many.

Loobyloo68 · 19/09/2022 14:12

I watched and shed a tear, the procession was very moving. I'm not religious but the service was nice.

Celeryfavour · 19/09/2022 14:16

I was okay until the piper. I really felt for him.

ShirleyJackson · 19/09/2022 14:19

I didn’t, although I did find it moving.

I actually cried buckets throughout the Platinum Jubilee - that felt like her goodbye.

Blueberrycreampie · 19/09/2022 14:21

Weirdly, I started when Liz Truss did the reading, don't know why but it was the words rather than LT who I can't stand.

Sluj · 19/09/2022 14:22

Only when "The Day thou Gavest" started a family favourite hymn

erikbloodaxe · 19/09/2022 14:23

The Pipes and Drums early this morning set me off, they were magnificent and then the piper in the Abbey. It was so moving. I'm Pagan so all the Christian ceremony didn't affect me but that Piper really got me.

NeedWineNow · 19/09/2022 14:28

I didn't surprisingly, but DH did when they put the coffin on the gun carriage and all the naval ratings joined hands and moved off. I thought it was all incredibly moving though.

My teary moment was when she left Balmoral for the last time, I just sobbed.

Hbh17 · 19/09/2022 14:30

The two minute silence, and then the piper fading away, did it for me.

NeedWineNow · 19/09/2022 14:30

Oops pressed too soon. I meant to say that I did well up at 'Love Divine' which has always been a favourite and which we had at our wedding.

toomuchlaundry · 19/09/2022 14:30

The piper going off in the distance is so moving

user1494050295 · 19/09/2022 14:31

When they started singing god save the queen. I shed a few tears

Windinthepillows · 19/09/2022 14:31

I did a little bit when her coffin was lifted at the end by those young men because I thought of all the young soldiers through time that have died and the layers of history in those uniforms.

thesunwillout · 19/09/2022 14:33

I'm surprised at myself as I am normally a weeper but I've not cried at all since the announcement.

I cried at Prince Philip's funeral but was thinking earlier that I was crying more for the Queen I think.

I've felt sadness for her family.
I feel a bit weird I've not cried.
Perhaps it's because she is now at peace.

Really not being controversial here.

lickenchugget · 19/09/2022 14:35

I was fine until God Save The Queen, as I realised it will likely be the last time any of us ever sing it again.

It was impeccably organised and very appropriate for the late Queen.

I’m a Pagan too, but yes the piper set me off. I’m not a massive royalist but the Queen was a remarkable woman no matter what anyones thoughts are on the royal family generally, we won’t see her like again.

Yes very poignant

Hadalifeonce · 19/09/2022 14:38

It was the last piper for me, the sound disappearing, seemingly into the distance.

This.

Feeling wobbly just thinking about it.

AiryFairy1 · 19/09/2022 14:41

I shed a tear at God Save the Queen (King?) - and camera shot of Charles looking so sad :-(

I actually also cried loads during the Jubilee as I also felt it would be the last time she was out In Public.

I'm not a massive fan of bagpipes, but today they've all been so apt.

Always4Brenner · 19/09/2022 14:42

The odd tear the piper music beautiful timeless you can imagine that being played 800 years ago. But I need to look forward now for my own sake so picture will come down soon of the queen in the window.

lollipoprainbow · 19/09/2022 14:42

Yes when I saw the coffin for the first time with the beautiful flowers. The piper, the soldiers carrying her coffin. Feel incredibly teary and have cried several times. It brings everything to the surface.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 19/09/2022 14:51

I thought it was beautifully done but I didn't cry. However I blubbed when I just saw this about Edward VII's funeral.

Bawled at watching King Charles wiping his tears away when they put her on the gun carriage and started the walk to Westminster Abbey. Bawled. Bloody stupid really. It's all just so emotive. I feel worn out this afternoon!
