Well who cried whilst watching the funeral?

Was watching the funeral with DH and DC in our living room.

I’ve found the Queen’s death quite saddening and I have shed a few tears over the last 11 days, but every time I’m at a funeral the music / hymns always set me off.

Felt quite emotional. What a woman she was!

And you don’t need to tell me how silly I am, DH has told me plenty of times that I ‘shouldn’t be crying about someone I never knew’ 🙄

I teared up seeing the crown on the coffin...

Edward sobbing had me going again .,

George looking up to William had me too...

It was a lovely, dignified and fitting goodbye to our Queen.. proud to be British..

I thought we had learned our lessons after the madness surrounding Diana’s death, but evidently not. People crying over the funeral of someone they never met is the definition of mass hysteria.

For me it's because she reminds me of my granny who died 2 years ago, the same hair, tweed skirts and head scarfs.

Bagpipes, especially just one, are very moving for some reason

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/09/2022 15:33

I didn't cry through the service, but seeing the queen's soldiers walking her through the quiet lane, no public, just her soldiers and the colour standard set me off.
Her troops taking her home for the last time.

Greydog · 19/09/2022 15:36

Have to say that I had a good cry, which I didn't expect to. But I have to go to a funeral this week of a very dear friend, and I really don't want to cry then, so I hope I've got it out of my system!

It was God Save The King that was sang.

Was it? At the end before the lone piper? Are you sure?

21secondstogo · 19/09/2022 15:37

The only time I felt like crying was when I saw the Prince George and Princess Charlotte in the car and I felt for them. (Didn’t actually shed tears as I have darling teenagers who said, you’re not crying are you and I denied it.)

TheVanguardSix · 19/09/2022 15:43

Ah I feel so stupid! In my blubbering mess (and maybe out of lifelong habit!) I heard- or maybe wanted to hear- God Save the Queen. I’m still a dim American, after all these years over here. Anyway… it was a good cry all the same.
We walked up to the A4 to wave her off. That was emotional too. Glad we did that.

AlwaysGinPlease · 19/09/2022 15:44

@JaneDoe222 are you always such a positive pleasant person? 🙄

StarbucksSmarterSister · 19/09/2022 15:52

OMG Emma the pony! Now I'm an emotional mess.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 19/09/2022 16:06

Where are they walking through now - I can’t place where it is. Is it Tower Hill?

I honestly heard God Save the Queen too at first. It's normal. The sound wasn't as clear in the church as normal and your brain compensates for what it always has heard before. Many people made the same mistake.

Andante57 · 19/09/2022 16:12

The pony set me off

YessicaHaircut · 19/09/2022 16:21

I didn’t expect to find it so moving. The bit when they carried her coffin slowly out of the Abbey and people bowed their heads or curtsied to it made me well up.

lollipoprainbow · 19/09/2022 16:22

I'm finding the Windsor part more emotional than the abbey, it's more intimate somehow.

ooherrmissus14 · 19/09/2022 16:25

Seeing the pony and dogs has made me feel really emotional- their presence makes it so much more personal ☹️

I'm not crying over the death of someone I haven't met- when I have cried it's for a mix of reasons relating to loss of my own family and emotions stirred by the hymns and readings. The Queen had a good and long life - and a strong faith from all we can tell.

historygeek · 19/09/2022 16:30

I genuinely didn't think I would, but the national anthem did for me. It's the last time "God save the queen" will be sung in my lifetime.

Me too.

piegone · 19/09/2022 16:31

The Pony for sure. It was the long shot where Emma was just stood to the side and you could look right down the long walk. The most emotional part for me.

bengalcat · 19/09/2022 16:32

I was fine until I saw Emma the pony and the two corgis

Worried22123 · 19/09/2022 16:32

Yes I cried at the bagpipes. Then when the choir started singing. And also when I saw Prince George. 😭

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/09/2022 16:33

Actually, @JaneDoe222 this is the definition of mass hysteria.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_hysteria_cases

What you are watching and sneering at is mass emotional response to an event that many people are finding deeply moving and both personally and nationally significant. HTH.

user1494050295 · 19/09/2022 16:39

I also thought the scenes of the mall were moving and hypnotic. Very beautiful

lollipoprainbow · 19/09/2022 16:43

The removing of the crown from her coffin has just set me off again, think I need to go and lie in a darkened room !!
