Well who cried whilst watching the funeral?

Was watching the funeral with DH and DC in our living room.

I’ve found the Queen’s death quite saddening and I have shed a few tears over the last 11 days, but every time I’m at a funeral the music / hymns always set me off.

Felt quite emotional. What a woman she was!

And you don’t need to tell me how silly I am, DH has told me plenty of times that I ‘shouldn’t be crying about someone I never knew’ 🙄

I wasn't expecting to cry but I did. I felt overwhelmed by the beauty of it all.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 19/09/2022 14:56

I found it a massive sensory overload and had to turn it off.

Too many primary colours/black and white floor/orange candles.

I really struggled. Gutted, because I wanted to watch it.

I thought it was beautifully done but I didn't cry. However I blubbed when I just saw this about Edward VII's funeral.

I expected to, I was quite upset when she died.
I cried when I watched Prince Philip’s funeral. His was a lot more intimate and relatable I suppose.

AlwaysGinPlease · 19/09/2022 15:01

@asblindasabat you can cry for who you like and when you like. It's not silly. Don't let him put you down like that. I've cried like a baby. I'm also crying for people I've lost and know I'll soon lose. There's nothing silly about it.

Unforgettablefire · 19/09/2022 15:03

The procession set me off. So beautiful and moving.

SweetestThing · 19/09/2022 15:03

The tune the Piper played at the end was called 'Sleep, dearie, sleep'. Just the name made me a bit weepy.

As well as Edward VII's dog at his funeral, his favourite horse was there, riderless and with a pair of the late King's riding boots reversed in the stirrups.

KatherineJaneway · 19/09/2022 15:04

Me. The pain etched on her children's faces 😢Edward drying his eyes in the Abbey.

JaneDoe222 · 19/09/2022 15:05

I thought we had learned our lessons after the madness surrounding Diana’s death, but evidently not. People crying over the funeral of someone they never met is the definition of mass hysteria.

pagopago · 19/09/2022 15:05

I cried when she was loaded into the hearse, followed by the National Anthem as she left London for the last time. Up until that point, I hadn't cried.

AiryFairy1 · 19/09/2022 14:41

I shed a tear at God Save the Queen (King?) - and camera shot of Charles looking so sad :-(

I actually also cried loads during the Jubilee as I also felt it would be the last time she was out In Public.

I'm not a massive fan of bagpipes, but today they've all been so apt.

He looked broken. I've noticed a few times he seems to have to stop himself when they sing the new national anthem and he always looks really emotional when that plays.

DysonSpheres · 19/09/2022 15:06

I cried buckets as she was driven away from Buckingham Palace. She'll never stand on the Balcony again.

Twigletgirl27 · 19/09/2022 15:08

It was seeing this cartoon from one of today's newspapers that brought me to tears....

Ticksallboxes · 19/09/2022 15:09

I cried buckets when she left the Abbey and drove through all the crowds and all the landmarks. That's when I really felt we were saying goodbye to our queen.

ladymactíre · 19/09/2022 15:09

I always get emotional when I hear pipes & drums, but the lone piper broke my heart.

TheVanguardSix · 19/09/2022 15:10

I properly lost it when they sang God Save the Queen. Just blubbered away. It’s the last time it’ll be sung for a long, long, long while. And just seeing how broken the whole family is just broke my heart.
And then the bagpipes. Bagpipes just set me off at the best of times.

DysonSpheres · 19/09/2022 15:10

God that's got me @Twigletgirl27 that went straight to the gullet!😥

DysonSpheres · 19/09/2022 15:12

It was God Save The King that was sang.

purplechaos · 19/09/2022 15:13

They were commentating on the floral arrangement on her coffin and said the Myrtle had been grown from a sprig taken from her wedding bouquet. Somehow that got to me more than anything, even though it's quite lovely.

Dollydea · 19/09/2022 15:17

I really wasn't expecting to but I've been a wreck all day,
My grandma died of covid in the 1st lockdown so we never got to say a proper goodbye with a funeral for her, she adored the royal family & was of the same generation as the Queen, so I think I've also been reflective on her today.

DH is also currently serving in the army, he was a bearer for one of his friends who died whilst also serving a few years ago, so that brought back painful memories too.
Sobbed when I saw her children looking so heartbroken.
DH thinks I've gone mad I think.

verdantverdure · 19/09/2022 15:18

The flowers people have thrown onto the hearse are getting me a bit.

user764329056 · 19/09/2022 15:20

Have blubbed all day, not a royalist, didn’t realise I had so much emotion to let go of, this taps into very personal feelings of loss, my beloved Nana who raised me, my beautiful Dad and stepmother, a lot of unexpected outpouring for me today

AhaLynn · 19/09/2022 15:21

@JaneDoe222 I didn’t cry about her, it’s my own grief and my love of history. It is also a normal phenomenon to feel joy or sadness during shared public events you don’t need to sneer just click away?

AhaLynn · 19/09/2022 15:22

Also to the sneerers I take it you don’t like poetry or music anything like that? You can feel an emotion and it isn’t directly your experience. Who’d have thought.
