Well who cried whilst watching the funeral?

Was watching the funeral with DH and DC in our living room.

I’ve found the Queen’s death quite saddening and I have shed a few tears over the last 11 days, but every time I’m at a funeral the music / hymns always set me off.

Felt quite emotional. What a woman she was!

And you don’t need to tell me how silly I am, DH has told me plenty of times that I ‘shouldn’t be crying about someone I never knew’ 🙄

I cried when the crown, sceptre and orb were removed, and the camp flag and the Lord Chamberlain's stick was broken and placed on the coffin. Then when her coffin started sinking I really lost it.

That's it. She's properly gone. I still can't really believe it.

PAFMO · 19/09/2022 17:14

I was fine till those last words from Kirsty in the studio.
Now I'm proper ugly crying.

The removing of the crown from her coffin has just set me off again, think I need to go and lie in a darkened room !!

That got me all over again along with the long bag piper.

The Royal Rituals are amazing.

I genuinely didn't think I would, but the national anthem did for me. It's the last time "God save the queen" will be sung in my lifetime.

No one has sung God Save the Queen since she died. The song immediately became God Save the King.

asblindasabat · 19/09/2022 17:16

oh my word when the coffin lowered into the vault it set me off again,

I know it is final, but it just saddens me that we will never see our queen again 😢

@PAFMO very moving, she was very close to tears and held it together very well.

CombatBarbie · 19/09/2022 17:18

When the piper started. I also cried when the coffin first came out with the crown earlier in the week.

Blossomtoes · 19/09/2022 17:19

The St Giles service made me cry, it was absolutely beautiful. Not today’s - too much, too long, too formulaic. The Scots win hands down.

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/09/2022 17:23

The piper, the pony, the corgis, the grooms and the staff of Windsor Castle set me off again and the final thing was the removal of the orb, sceptre and crown and the Lord Chamberlain breaking the stick.

Suzi888 · 19/09/2022 17:26

Yes, it’s incredibly sad. Thinking of my loved ones who have passed also.

Yes, that's what got me as well. I've only cried 3 times since she died - that evening watching the video of Ed Sheering singing 'Perfect' at the jubilee with the photo montage behind him, watching the grandchildren take their place for the vigil, and those closing words.

megosaurusrex · 19/09/2022 17:32

I lost it at God Save the King. Wasn't expecting to cry at all. I thought the service
was beautiful.

Celeryfavour · 19/09/2022 17:34

I'm absolutely exhausted now. I remembered "we do not see things as they are, we see things as we are". We've all brought our own experiences. Crying is part of grieving and we've all had our own losses.

AlternativelyWired · 19/09/2022 17:36

The Queen's pony, Emma, standing there on The Long Walk got me especially when the grooms curtsied. My Dd adores horses and it really got to me.
Charles looking emotional and placing the flag on the coffin and the lord chamberlain breaking his wand of office.
I'm a mess and I'm not particularly a royalist.

Me too.

Those last few sentences, so full of emotion and meaning. A very fitting end to the broadcast.

asblindasabat · 19/09/2022 17:38

When they lowered the Queen’s coffin into the floor beneath the chapel, is that where she stays? Or is she moved somewhere else now?

also, have they already moved Prince Philip over or are they doing that later?

And God Save The King. It was the first time I've heard it.

Crunchymum · 19/09/2022 17:39

I did.

Its the anniversary of my mum's sudden and unexpected death (and she'd have loved all the pomp and ceremony, I spent most of the time thinking "mum would have loved this")

I miss her.

Grief is a universal emotion.

lollipoprainbow · 19/09/2022 17:41

@Crunchymum same

So sorry to hear of the loss of your DMum. I’m sure it was bound to make you feel emotional and it’s only understandable 💐

For me it was the flowers on the coffin. They were so beautiful and natural and higgledy piggledy.

MynameisJune · 19/09/2022 17:43

Cried all day on and off which surprised me as im not usually a royalist.

Strange to miss someone you never knew.

SpringCalling · 19/09/2022 17:44

well it was the right decision to make this a bank holiday. we watched on tv and it was very moving. Those laments on the bagpipes fading away are one of the most evocative sounds ever. very well done.

CaptainBarbosa · 19/09/2022 17:44

I was fine...till I saw those two beautiful corgis looking for their owner and her Pony Emma....that was it, I was gone then. 😳

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 19/09/2022 17:47

Me. I'd just had a big fight with ex-dh anyway and seeing the coffin just triggered the feelings I had at my own parents funerals. I feel so sad for her family and I have no idea how they hold it together so we'll.
