I thought it was amazing, so dignified and respectful and beautiful. We watched ITV - no waffle or loads of commentary, just the service and procession. Even though we weren't there DH and I still feel as if we have been part of history (albeit having a bit of disrespectful munching of crisps during the procession).

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2022 13:51

I was surprised earlier how few member of the public were, but in fact there's absolutely loads!

Do you think Charles and Anne are sitting in their cars saying well done, we got through that bit.

I'd like to think that Anne's got her shoes off, feet on Tim's knee and he's lovingly massaging them!

LIZS · 19/09/2022 13:51

Who is in the second royal car?

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 13:52

Right lovely people, I’m stopping for a cup of tea and a cheese scone, catch up with you later

There must be some security people breathing a heavy sigh of relief now the procession is over. I can’t imagine how much has gone on behind the scenes to make things safe for everyone involved.

Definitely. All the adrenaline and nerves for the day, then the pressure while the procession occurred. Not to mention the emotional strain of the day as well.

I’m sure everyone involved will be absolutely exhausted and drained afterwards. But they did such a fantastic job.

tactum · 19/09/2022 13:52

Re the Royals and lunch. I saw India Hicks (granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten) interviewed yesterday who indicated there would be lunch at Windsor before the service there. So I imagine everyone but Anne and Tim is hot footing it down there at 80 mph before all the buffet goes.

diddl · 19/09/2022 13:52

I loved the flowers that were on the coffin.

I have thought that Charles & Anne have seemed quite close through this.

Desperately trying to keep up with my own thread and failing miserably! Going to try and make it home and get the dog out before 3pm now.

I thought the whole thing was beautiful. Only problem is, I felt guilty at switching channels after everything had finished. It seemed 'wrong' to go and watch some silly thriller or something else, so I'm now looking for 'suitable' things to watch! Daft but true. 😂

I think lots of people will sleep well tonight. I'm so pleased it went so well. The security did a great job

Diegofrompennyburn · 19/09/2022 13:53

I'd hoped there would be flower big letters spelling out "MA'AM"

purpleme12 · 19/09/2022 13:54

So what happens next on the Tele? As isn't it on all day?

caz114 · 19/09/2022 13:55

BBC red button is showing the cars all the way to Windsor

CaptainBarbosa · 19/09/2022 13:56

I had the service on, on the radio, and I have to say is found myself just listening in silence, concentrating on the words.

Then managed to get home to watch the procession on the TV. It was magnificent. A well done to all those who participates, especially the lads and lasses pulling that gun carriage!

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 13:47

At least some of them can have a break now before the next service. Not princess Anne though, going in the car behind. She won't have had a break all day, nowhere to stop. Well trained bladder I guess. And even George and Charlotte must have pretty well trained bladders by now!!

I hope Anne gets a drink and snack in the car

It’s not that long, though, three hours, and less if you count from the actual service. And London to Windsor isn’t far, especially if roads are cleared for you.

Do we know roughly when it arrives at Windsor and if that'll be on tv?

Random thought that popped into my head during the service, some nutter could crash a plane into Westminster Abbey right now and take out pretty much all the leaders of the world and the Royal Family.

Just imagine that. Or 'Liz', or 'The Guv'.

CriticalThinkingNeeded · 19/09/2022 13:56

Really hope someone does another horse line of honour somewhere along the route to Windsor...Anne loved it in Scotland!

(And am sure it would appeal to Charlotte and George).

I'd say that the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand focus is because they are the commonwealth countries where the queen is still head of state. None of the other commonwealth countries have the UK monarch as their had of state so have no place in the procession.

Absolutely not true! Have you forgotten the discussions the Caribbean countries had during the disastrous Kate and William visit as to whether the Queen should remain as Head of state of Janaica, Grenada and other countries and Barbados landmark decision to remove the Queen?!

My late father would have been there with a bucket and shovel, all that lovely fertiliser for the roses.

Yes, I remember my grandma running out when the rag and bone man or the coal cart went past. She loved her roses.

SoupDragon · 19/09/2022 13:57

I don't think there is anything wrong with cheering at all. She did her duty and died at a ripe old age. People can celebrate that fact and show their appreciation. It's not an unexpected death.

It's on Sky News - they're following the cars going up to a Windsor. It's amazing to see all the people line them roads

HideTheCroissants · 19/09/2022 13:58

The bearer party were fabulous.

”Bearer party, to the pub quick March! Bearer party, by the right, raise tankard! Bearer party, in one, down pint!” Well done lads, you did her proud.
