I've been finding this mesmerising so thought I'd create a dedicated thread.
Saw Justin Trudeau and his wife pass through earlier.

It’s like the early years of big brother 24 hour live feed. Instead of watching people sleep we’re watching them nod and bow

flapjackfairy · 17/09/2022 13:11

yes if is v soothing to watch in a funny sort of a way.
I keep getting tearful though everytime an old soldier salutes the coffin.

VaginaRegina · 17/09/2022 13:12

It's very soothing, somehow. The quiet rustle of people moving past, and the occasional double tap signalling a change of guards.

Antarcticant · 17/09/2022 13:14

I like the guard changes. It's made me wonder why there aren't any clocks that strike on the 1/3 hour.

DatingIsDifficult · 17/09/2022 13:14

I’m finding it very meditative and soothing. I’ve somehow got it in the corner of my iPad while I’m googling so double whammy here.

DatingIsDifficult · 17/09/2022 13:15

When do the police change?

cakeorwine · 17/09/2022 13:54

When DF was up, we watched some 'slow TV'. It was literally just an Australian train going through the outback.

Fascinating TV. But not a lot happened. For hours.

I saw that. It was one of my favourites 😁. I love all the slow to programmes they’ve had. The Yorkshire bus, the canal boat, the Scandinavian trains, the sleigh ride……………

Confusedandanxiety · 17/09/2022 14:49

I think 'slow TV' will be my new search term on YouTube!
When I first started watching the livestream a couple of days ago it took me a while to realise there was audio as everyone is so quiet. Until the double tap!
I wonder how many people will file through by the end? Thought I heard a million mentioned on the news but that might have been for the funeral.

i have found it fascinating. All the different nationalities and the different ways people show their respect. And the whole scene is so impressive.

Reallybadidea · 17/09/2022 14:52

Also slightly addicted. I have questions though. How often do the guards change? Who are the people in the little balcony and why do they get longer to pay their respects?

TattiePants · 17/09/2022 14:58

I'm finding it fascinating too and have it on in the background while I'm working. What I can't work out is why the number of people inside the hall has reduced so much. Yesterday there were 4 (sometimes 5) lines of people all close together. Since about midnight last night the lines of people have thinned out and there were times late last night when there was literally no one on the stairs. Given the 20+ hour wait I thought they'd be herded through.

TattiePants · 17/09/2022 15:01

@Reallybadidea the guards change every 20 minutes. Some of the people on the balcony are people who work within the Palace of Westminster and their guests. I would imagine there'll be a lot of foreign leaders, ambassadors etc over the weekend as they arrive for the funeral.

Thanks, that's interesting. The Buckingham palace guards change less frequently I think? Presumably The Queue would be quicker if they didn't change as often, although far be it from me to criticise, I couldn't stand still for 1 minute, let alone 20!

I enjoyed the guard earlier who was mouthing "one-two, one-two" as he was marching!

Snowpatrolling · 17/09/2022 15:18

I’m watching as my friend has gone up! I was supposed to go but tested positive for covid, gutted! Going to see if I can spot her on the tv

SheWoreYellow · 17/09/2022 15:20

You can get ‘study with me’ videos on YouTube too. I watched a lovely one in a cafe.

elizaregina · 17/09/2022 15:34

Are you sure it's only 20 mins they stand guard for?

I'm sure I head each shift was actually 6 hours? The men in swan hat's?

What happens if something kicks off either at Westminster hall and / or the the funeral.

I'e the men/soldier's standing guard didn't actually wrestle the attacker did they?
They didn't seem to notice?

What happens if a group went for the coffin at funeral? I know police would intervene however, would the soldiers do anything? Are they allowed too?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 17/09/2022 15:34

I had it on while WFH on Thursday, saw my sister go through!

megletthesecond · 17/09/2022 15:36

It's so calming. I've had it on all the time.
I'm a slow TV people watcher and in my element.

I think several groups rotate within the six hour shift, so they may each do 20 minutes on then rest for a watch or two before going out again.

Hotandbothereds · 17/09/2022 15:42

I had it on a tab on my laptop while I was working yesterday, I found it so soothing watching everyone walk past, the quiet and still of it, the changing of the guards…

I was watching when David Beckham came through and the guards changed just as he was at the front of the queue - I wondered if the police/security person spotted him, he could easily have waited until the next person in line.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 17/09/2022 15:49

Ahh, I’ve just stumbled across it on the IPlayer so had a quick look about 20 minutes ago. There was a man that the camera focused in on with his son and daughter, and I thought he looked familiar, but didn’t know who he was, so that would make sense if other dignitaries are filing past (he was a man with ginger hair, looked a bit like the late Charles Kennedy - but still don’t know who he is!)

TattiePants · 17/09/2022 15:49

@elizaregina each shift is 6 hour but they are only on guard for 20 minutes at a time. I assume they do a number of 20 minute slots within their 6 hour shift.

Ladyof2022 · 17/09/2022 15:51

Yes, it's mourn porn.

SubtleUserName · 17/09/2022 15:53

@elizaregina The guards are holding guns with bayonets: certainly look like the real deal weapons. Bit unseemly to scuffle on the steps but I am sure they would leap into action if a situation developed. There's clearly a lot of backup steps away.

Can you imagine the insurance on the crown, sceptre and orb? Or do we think they are very good copies?

I'm also dipping in and out of watching, it is so soothing. Almost meditative.
