I've been finding this mesmerising so thought I'd create a dedicated thread.
Saw Justin Trudeau and his wife pass through earlier.

@HansZimmerframe But the queue didn't always start in Southwark Park - that was were the end of the queue was when it was at full capacity. Before it reached that point, you found the end of the queue wherever it was along the Thames Path and joined it there. I think at one point on Wednesday night it was at Tower Bridge (and numbers would have been swelled by those who had camped out before the queue even opened, plus many who joined after seeing the hearse being driven through central London). On Thursday morning it was near Blackfriars Bridge and waiting time was less than 5 hours.

As for the figure of 250,000, I also think that seems low. I looked it up and apparently the Culture Secretary gave that figure verbally in an interview so I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be incorrect.

Isn't 200,000 the figure quoted for the Queen Mother's lying-in-state, which was 3 days? So compared with that 250,000 wouldn't be far off, but a lot less than for Winston Churchill. Perhaps the numbers of people through the hall at any one time was higher at his lying-in-state. One photo show a single file of people on each side but another shows about 2 or 3 abreast. But that would be similar to the double lines we had last week. Perhaps people just walked past and didn't stop to take a moment. He wasn't royal so presumably people wouldn't bow or curtsey.

Yes I know that. It was just an example. But there were a few times when it was saying the queue started at Southwark Park (or a little after) and the estimated wait time was 20-24hrs. Still doesn't make sense

I didn't see the 20-24 hours estimates (not saying it didn't happen, just that I didn't see them). I know the estimate went up dramatically (17 hours?) when Southwark Park was at capacity and people started forming a queue-to-join-the-queue. At that point I guess they just didn't know how many people were willing to wait outside the park so put a high figure on it.

From the outset I didn't believe the 30-hours wait hyperbole. It might have put off a lot of people from joining initially, and it wasn't until the coverage on Thursday that many people realised it wasn't so bad and decided to join.

This guy Professor Reicher should read this thread!

One day there will be university modules in The Queue Studies.
