I've been finding this mesmerising so thought I'd create a dedicated thread.
Saw Justin Trudeau and his wife pass through earlier.

Tattie!!

Thank goodness for that! I really thought the poor buggers might be stuck there for 6 hours with loo breaks!!

bengalcat · 17/09/2022 15:57

@Ladyof2022 mournporn - that made me smile

I saw that. It was one of my favourites 😁. I love all the slow to programmes they’ve had. The Yorkshire bus, the canal boat, the Scandinavian trains, the sleigh ride……………

When I was upset about a family member’s divorce, I listened to trains rattling over tracks in India for 8 hrs overnight on you tube.

It was soothing- reminded me of night trains

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 17/09/2022 16:05

I’ve found a photo of him… any idea who he is please? (And I’m going to be embarrassed if he’s not a dignity and I just know him from somewhere 😀)

just I recognise him too.

LIZS · 17/09/2022 16:14

Oliver Dowden mp

MinnieMouseclubhouse · 17/09/2022 16:17

@TattiePants I think someone ran up and touched the coffin last night, so makes sense that they've reduced the number of people after that

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 17/09/2022 16:21

Oh. Thanks for that! Yup, don’t know why I recognise him then. Certainly not anywhere near his constituency and I’m certainly not a Boris fan 😆
I did think he was an Australian dignity or ex Irish rugby player, but now I feel embarrassed for the Irish team for me even thinking that….

How on Earth did they manage that?
I’d have thought the Queen’s Guards would have stopped that immediately.

DatingIsDifficult · 17/09/2022 13:15

When do the police change?

I'm not sure. Not as often as the soldiers though. I saw one changing of the guard when the police changed over as well but the steward on the one side didn't realise and had let people start walking before the police had swapped over (they waited until the guards were done before swapping) so they were having to try and get through a crowd of people.

From the pictures of the guy who ran at the coffin I think it's the police who are the ones who'll actually intervene, the soldiers role is ceremonial.

You might be right. I felt sorry for the ushers(?) last night as they were running up and down the stairs trying to speed people up. Some of them aren't that young.

@elizaregina there was a guard on the first night (I think) that fainted at the end of his 20 minute shift and fell face first onto the stone floor. Apparently there's a particular type of facial fracture common in guards from fainting face first!

elizaregina · 17/09/2022 16:25

Fainting after 6 Hours...but 20 mins?

oakleaffy · 17/09/2022 16:25

I bet the Soldiers do have weapons on them?
The Crown 👑 is worth a fair bit, should some chancer try to steal it.
I’m sure they search people going in, hence dogs being found smothered in coats.

Apparently it's the position they are in, completely still with heads bowed that's tricky. Can lead to low blood pressure then....bam!

Ladyof2022 · 17/09/2022 15:51

Yes, it's mourn porn.

Grin
Figgygal · 17/09/2022 16:30

Yes i have found my people
I've been watching it for days its utterly compelling
My husband thinks I've lost the plot

Yes, the bowed head is a "faint inducer". Try it at home stand perfectly still with and bow your head chin to chest. You'll note a)the back of your neck starts to stiffen after a while, and b) when you lift your head back up you get a "rush"

Now also imagine that with a headdress on that weighs a few pounds 😳 ouch!

Horcruxe · 17/09/2022 16:34

I've definitely watched too much of this over the last couple of days.

I've seen loads of MP's go by.
Theresa May.
Jeremy Hunt.
I'm pretty sure I saw some foreign Royalty and other dignitaries too.

Seen a lady holding a baby- not sure how she managed to keep her baby so well behaved for so long.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 17/09/2022 16:34

The theatre of it all is incredible, the changing of the guard is mesmerising and the acoustics when the guard signals the change, how lucky were the people last night who were there when the Queen’s children did their vigil.

mackthepony · 17/09/2022 16:35

mourn porn.

^^

😂😂

Brilliant

Ouch.
The Guards really do fall like felled trees.

It looks very uncomfortable 😣.

derxa · 17/09/2022 16:57

It's utterly fascinating. I saw Justin Trudeau, Michael Heseltine, Oliver Dowden and Baroness Scotland today. But it's the vast mix of people who have mesmerised me. And ex military doing a crisp salute

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/09/2022 16:58

Ooh, me too! It's totally become my guilty pleasure! 🤭😂
I'm obsessed with it. I'm not a royalist in the slightest; and wouldn't join 'The Queue' myself. But I'm completely fascinated by it. I haven't figured out why yet; but it all has an other-worldly quality to it. Something a bit Alice-in-Wonderlandish about it all.
'The Queue' has become an institution in itself, and I'll be sad when it ends. God save the queue!

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/09/2022 17:03

Also, I'm a pacifist, and generally dislike anything connected to militarism. But with their outfits, the guards there seem more like fantasy figures from a different world. There's an alchemy to it all, that I'm finding mesmerising, as others have said.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/09/2022 17:05

it is fascinating
