I've just seen this picture on BBC News of the King shaking hands with Liz Truss.

Do you think his skin looks a bit inflamed? I hope he's not unwell.

He's always had quite pronounced rosacea.

MisgenderedSwan · 11/09/2022 09:48

Looks like either gout or arthritis, neither is uncommon in a man of his age. The stress of recent events could have caused a bad flare.

Definitely not a smoker, but a regular drinker. Know someone who works at the Naval College in Dartmouth who has met his many times, he is well known to have a large tumbler of whisky most of the times. If you look at his cheeks you can see the ruddiness.

This. I noticed his nose is red like that of a drinker.

For years it has been commented about his "fat fingers" he does not look the picture of health for someone who campaigns strongly for organic produce he looks like a heart attack ready to happen he is so bloated.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 11/09/2022 09:49

Doesn't MN usually recommend a prescription of tret for skin issues?

KittyCatsby · 11/09/2022 09:50

I think it's a known that he has arthritis ( of some form ) in his hands.
I think due to his love of rural life / the countryside / gardening he has spent lots of time outdoors , so will look like a country gent.

DoIHaveTooo · 11/09/2022 09:51

They don't look too healthy.

Liz looks awfully pale.

Georgeskitchen · 11/09/2022 09:53

He does have a ruddy complexion, I know he absolutely detests smoking but don't know anything about his boozing habits!!
Camilla was a heavy smoker but I believe she made big efforts to kick it when she officially get together with Charles. Don't know if she managed it.
Word has it that Meghan asked Harry to stop smoking and that she put him on a healthier eating regime.
Probably why he looks so bloody miserable all the time 😉
I think it was lung Cancer that took George VI. If you look at film reels of his final weeks he looked very frail and very ill for a man of 52

As a footnote it was a well known fact that Princess Diana also detested smoking

Thenightwemet16 · 11/09/2022 09:39

He did have lung cancer, but I think he actually died of a cardiac arrest (he had quite a few smoking-related illnesses).

George VI had one of his lungs removed a few months before his death. He was not a well man. His brother David (Edward VIII) died of throat cancer.

Everyone who dies had a cardiac arrest.

🙄

donquixotedelamancha · 11/09/2022 10:01

Liz Truss needs to make sure she’s not Vit D deficient. She hasn’t seen much of the sun lately, going by that arm.

She gets her iron and bit D from drinking human blood.

turningpurpleygreen · 11/09/2022 10:01

His hands 🫣

WimbyAce · 11/09/2022 10:03

I think he has had swollen fingers for years, remember seeing them before.

tempester28 · 11/09/2022 10:04

Let's not kill him off yet!

User148563 · 11/09/2022 10:05

A lot of older men look like that

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/09/2022 10:05

Some people's skin is like this. He has the best health care in the world, he's fine !!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 11/09/2022 10:08

He’s probably just a bit hot and sweaty, leave the poor fucker alone

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/09/2022 10:18

You can get Dactylitis if you have Psoriatic Arthritis. And a very red face/nose.

My hands looked like that when I had a huge flare a few years back. It might also be relevant that he has such interest in organic foods and alternative remedies - if he's not keen on the idea of DMARDs or Biologics, for example, he would be far more likely to have permanently inflamed hands and skin.

Abraxan · 11/09/2022 10:22

He has commented on his own fingers before.

Likely to be from something like an inflammatory arthritis I'd imagine.

I have Psoriatic Arthritis and it can cause it to happen. Doesn't mean I'd be dreadfully I'll. just means I'd had a flare up - which is even more likely at times of stress.

Arenanewbie · 11/09/2022 10:38

@LadyEloise1
yes, it was very obvious how irritated he was . However Camilla had the same set up and she sat graciously, moved the item at the first instance and put her hand over it on the second - no fuss no complaints. We were sitting and admiring how she managed this.
