Put the mobile phones away!

Watching poor Charles, a man who has JUST lost his mother, shaking hands of the great unwashed public, many of who had their bloody mobile phones shoved in his face whilst grinning inanely at him, it really made me cringe.

The Protection officer kept telling them to put their phones down and at one point said " put the phones down , just enjoy the moment" but they just bloody kept on. Shouting and jeering. Ugh. Have done decorum people for goodness sake 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

The phones were unnecessary though.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/09/2022 14:58

Are the serfs and peasants not showing the correct decorum? SHOCKED I tells you.

It's a historical moment to them, not a personal one.

tobee · 09/09/2022 14:58

Yeah but really difficult to police the phones. Don't want it to turn nasty

People are very snooty on this thread. God knows who they think they are. Above the others apparently

@tobee not snooty at all. Just amazed by such disrespectful, tasteless behavior . Would you do what they were doing? Do you think it's ok to behave that way? It's not.

When the car was going down a side street and a few were waving I thought "oh that's interesting."

tobee · 09/09/2022 15:00

What was so terrible @AlwaysGinPlease ?

People saying plebeians and peasants. Lovely

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2022 15:01

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 09/09/2022 14:42

I thought the same. A woman grabbed him, kissed him and looked far too happy about it. No respect.

Bleurgh, yes I saw that. Poor Charles.

uhtredbebbanburg · 09/09/2022 14:56

I agree. The poor man has just lost his mum and all those cameras in his face.

At least he’s an adult and presumably chose to do his walkabout. His sons were forced to do the same thing when they were children and had zero choice in the matter.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 09/09/2022 15:02

TrueNorthernBird · 09/09/2022 14:31

My heart was in my mouth all the way through the walkabout so Lord only knows how the CP team felt.

The CP team looked non to happy at all. Especially the chap in front of King Charles.

There is absolutely no way that people would have acted like that with Her Majesty. Kissing Charles' hand and at one point one woman actually grabbed him and kissed his cheek. It was like a front row at a Robbie Williams gig circa 20 yrs ago!

Respect has gone out of the window. I blame reality TV. Everyone's just out for the 15 mins of fame and the insta likes. Common bloody sense would have told the people in the crowd that his walkabout was already being filmed by an actual TV crew. No need for the phones in his face.

DameHelena · 09/09/2022 15:02

I think it was very classy of him to get out of the car and go and speak to people. Pity those with their mobiles out don't know how to behave. And no, I'm not being snooty and I don't think I'm 'above' the 'peasants'; it's common decency and common sense.

People generally have no manners when it comes to phones though.

tobee · 09/09/2022 15:03

I don't get all this "no respect" talk. And then no further explanation. He's a King of all the people. No one was being that outrageous. It was pretty tame.

Sirzy · 09/09/2022 15:03

I thought exactly the same. There will inevitably be selfies with the coffin when she is Lying in state too.

I think that they'll probably be signs up about cameras, selfies etc. if it's seen fit.

asblindasabat · 09/09/2022 15:06

I agree OP. I wish it possible to ban mobile phones at events/occasions like these. Would be too difficult to implement though. People are just filming for the sake of it and it is distasteful. Really callous tbh.

Personally, I like Charles, but no matter what some people think of Charles, he has just lost his mother only 24 hours ago and I actually think it’s awful he has to go out and meet people and do speeches.

I think if it was my parent I’d just want shut myself indoors to curl up in a ball and cry.

HappyHamsters · 09/09/2022 15:06

The waving and smiling at the camera was awful last night, especially on Sky.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/09/2022 15:08

When Diana's body was moved to Kensington Palace the street was lined with people taking phone pics - from the air they lit up the street. The dissonance between that and accusing the paps of chasing her to death for pictures was lost on them.

But it's not the same. He might have lost his mum. But he's also the new King. He obviously wanted to get straight out of the car to meet people.

There won't. It's in, file past and out. Anyone even trying will be out so fast their feet won't touch the ground.

Yes it was much more crazy

DarkShade · 09/09/2022 15:13

Well if it were up to me nobody would be there to greet him and we'd close the whole shebang down. I'm sure he's delighted people want to come and see him instead of waving pitchforks at him.

Hopefully phones will not be allowed at all

asblindasabat · 09/09/2022 15:15

Isn’t her lying in state open coffin or is it closed coffin? I’d be extremely concerned, in regards to photographs, if it is open coffin.

It is but I just feel for him. He’s only human and I’m sure there is a part of him that just wants to go home and not face anybody right now.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/09/2022 15:16

Closed coffin. And they'll be eagle eyed for phones, trust me.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 09/09/2022 15:20

It's not snooty to expect decent behaviour in these circumstances. To be fair, most of the crowd were fine, it was just the odd dingbat.
