Has anyone happened to just see Theresa May's tribute to the Queen in the commons? My goodness she was heartwarming, kind and very funny with real comic timing! I had no idea she was so witty! It never came across during her PMship.

Anyway, anyone feeling sad or a bit empty today - it's worth a watch.

I loved May and Johnson's speeches. I didn't see Keir's but heard good things.

I agree with some of the comments about Truss’s speech being a bit wooden but let’s cut her some slack - she’s had such a hard first week as PM and also didn’t know rhe Queen all that well.
Confirmed as the new PM on Monday, met the Queen on Tuesday, had her first PMQ on Wednesday, the Queen passed away on Thursday, meeting the new King on Friday….

I never met the Queen but could talk about her with a lot more passion and emotion than that. Swear me in as PM tomorrow and I'll do a speech on Sunday easy peasy.

EspeciallyDivided · 09/09/2022 17:08

Emmanuel Macron made a lovely speech too

valadon68 · 09/09/2022 17:08

TM is a great speaker and I'm sure she has a conscience and has done good things as an MP. I'm sure she's not always been treated fairly either.

But I think her legacy as someone who seems to have enthusiastically promoted the hostile environment for immigrants, which led to the Windrush catastrophe and poisoned the Home Office, is unforgivable, though. It's going to take more than a heartwarming anecdote to make me want her back as PM. Judging by this thread, people's memories seem to be quite short?

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 17:09

I feel a bit sorry for Ms Truss really.
She'll work on her speech making I'm sure
It can't be easy for her , I couldn't do her job !
She's had quite a week
Theresa May 's speech was good too

catinboots123 · 09/09/2022 17:13

I love Treeze. Miss her. She's hilarious.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 17:15

The cheese story TM told was funny !
What would anyone do ? .. it must be so weird eating and drinking in front of a Queen and dropping things is something we all do ! It must be nerve wracking
( unless your Paddington Bear )

Teresa May was excellent. So was Boris. Loved the bit where he said some Middle Eastern ruler really thought she had jumped from a helicopter!

I heard it and thought she was charming and wonderful.

Turned Johnson off, he makes me sick.

In fairness to Johnson, as I sat with my finger on the off button ready to press, it was actually a good decent speech. For once he spoke with sincerity and seemed to have managed to drop all his whiffle waffle- jeez the man can string words and thoughts together then..why has he been pissing around like an imbecile for last however many years.🤷🏼‍♀️
it was actually quite heartfelt and like Theresa’s was abut his personal interaction with her
do go back and watch - it will surprise you.

Chamomileteaplease · 09/09/2022 17:29

I am sure no one cares but I thought the post was about Liz Truss's speech😂.

Sorry all, I am sure it was great, I only saw Liz's awful one.

love a good tory drooling thread Grin

Nope. Just people who bothered to listen to the speeches

Bunnycat101 · 09/09/2022 17:31

She was very good as was Boris. Boris’ written statement yesterday was very good as well. I do feel a bit sorry for Truss but she just seemed a bit wooden and dull compared to the others. She must have had some more interesting anecdotes from her time as foreign secretary. her style might actually be quite good for PMQs- straight and cutting through bluster but on these big state occasions the Cameron and Blair oratory style is what you need really. Macron’s statement was better and more memorable than our own PMs.

MarshaBradyo · 09/09/2022 17:34

With pp and Queen’s speeches they were very good

The pandemic one still gets me now - we will meet again

I wasn’t sure if we would here and we did, recently. When I hear that part it gets me again

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 17:37

Justin Trudeau was in tears yesterday.
It was very moving how upset he was

Sharrowgirl · 09/09/2022 17:39

When Theresa May was PM, she still went to her constituency every week and did her MP surgery, listening to complaints about double yellow lines and wheelie bin collections.

User473847284737 · 09/09/2022 17:46

I seen it and thought it was lovely. She comes across totally different to when she was PM.

I also quite liked Boris' speech. Never thought I'd say that!

AnneElliott · 09/09/2022 17:59

I haven't seen Theresa May's speech yet - will have to watch on catchup. But she is a genuinely warm and funny woman. Am glad that's comes across in the speech she's made about the Queen.

GoTeamRocket · 09/09/2022 18:03

I think TM's speech was good and I think she would heve been a much better PM during the pandemic. But Johnson and his mates sabotaged her.

I am so pleased that Johnson is not PM at the moment, I bet him and Carrie are kicking themselves, think about all the limelight he would have taken up.

I am not a Starmer fan but I thought his speech was one of the best - thoughtful and well delivered.

Emmanuel Macron made a lovely speech too

Also Justin Trudeau spoke so well and I thought he would break down, he looked to be really struggling.

Boris spoke very well and brought a bit of light relief yet not disrespectively.

Thank you. :) Clear HM believed in the 5 second rule.

That's why she loved to be 96. I bet she was never scared of a bit of dirt!

I always liked Teresa May. She seemed normal and sensible to me. Human and competent. She didn't stand out because she knuckled down and got on with the job instead of being a celebrity.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 17:37

Justin Trudeau was in tears yesterday.
It was very moving how upset he was

I think the Queen made a really nice speech about him some years back?

Jellykat · 09/09/2022 18:17

Trudeaus speech had me blubbing yesterday, you could tell he meant every word, while Theresa Mays had me laughing out loud today.. I didnt know they had it in them!
Keir Starmers speech was 100% better then Trusses, i know shes only been in the job 2 days, but come on, shes made speeches before and has the depth of a bloody puddle!

Liliesofthevalley · 09/09/2022 18:23

I enjoyed May's speech - a revelation. Johnson was good yesterday and today. I was going to switch off but glad I didn't. Loved Harman's point about The Queen being in such a man's world.
LT disappointing and yesterday wished she had looked a little smarter, spoke better and looked less wooden. I also am not looking forward to her over the next few days
